As Korean progaming expands, so does our need for people willing to cover and report on the various goings-on of the BW world. We currently maintain a small group of dedicated individuals who are responsible for watching games and writing reports, maintaining liquibet, writing summaries of the leagues, and translating articles from Korean sources. If you feel you have the desire and ability, this thread is fo you.
We are looking for:
2-3 News Writers
Responsibilities and requirements:
You would be responsible for watching games and writing reports on a specific league. These reports should give the reader an accurate picture of the games themselves, and how they fit into the tournament picture as a whole. Reports should be up in a timely manner.
You are encouraged to bring initiative to the site in the form of new ideas for features and style.
You should have a strong grasp of the English language. You do not have to be a native speaker, but you should be able to express yourself well through the written word.
You should be willing to make a commitment to the site. This is not an easy job, and the rewards are slight. The ability to gain satisfaction from doing a good job is important.
2-3 Replay Uploaders
Responsibilities and requirements:
TL has maintained a high quality replay section. In our opinion, one great replay upload is worth more than 50 mediocre replay uploads. Replays uploaded should be games where there is room for discussion, and feature high skill.
You should have a unique source for obtaining your replays. If we wanted to take replays from elsewhere, we could just visit YGClan every day. Having unique replays is very important.
You should bring some ideas to the table in regards to "replay features" for themed reppacks or feature replays.
You should not be Ekii.
Be able to upload regularly. There is no number you must upload per week, but two or three people each uploading once a week is what we have in mind. However, quality over quantity always.
To Apply
Please PM Manifesto7 with the following information:
- Name. - Age. There is no age limit, but a mature attitude is required. - Country. - Languages spoken. Korean ability is a plus. - MSN/AIM name. - Availibility. When and how much time can you put towards this? - Why you want to work for TL? A short written statement about why you want the job.
For news writers, please include a recent sample of your writing in the form of a battle report. You can cut/paste it or send me a link. Any experience you have in writing battle reports should be listed here.
For replay uploaders, please tell me where and how you obtain replays. Entertaining me with a good one might help too
Good luck to everyone who applies. It is the community who helps keep TL rolling along, so it is the community we turn to when we need help.
It must be battle reports & Korean leagues coverage only for the news section?
I would wield my axe but when it comes to serious progaming news I have always felt like the poor hungry kid looking through the glass window at the rich people eat in the restaurant. Just check out the last translated report at http://senseofstar.blogspot.com and you will know what I mean. I wonder sometimes how much we are missing out given the hundreds of good Korean Starcraft sites. I do not really know and it is hard to express the exact feeling but sometimes I feel like us common western folk are missing out the main meal. Just a nagging feeling I get everytime a VOD in Hangul.
Believe me Physician, I feel so much like you do. Things like sense of star are just the tip of the iceberg. It is the longstanding goal of TL to make this world more accessible to the English speaking world. With our vollunteer staff and meagre resources, I think we have done a good job. Lots of the credit also has to go to the forum which constantly produces new material and discussions. In the end though, we will never be able to unless translation software becomes perfect.
If you, or anyone, has ideas other than battle reports, I of course would be willing to read any proposal. One thing that I dont want to do, is focus on the foreign scene, because I already thing GG.net is doing a good job of that. TL is about the korean scene, and I have a hard time seeing it as a portal for something else.
Again though, wow me, and I will consider anything.
I think that it would help to update the links page to include things like Yaoyuan, SenseofStar, FiFo, and a lot of the other sites. It would brink the Links page more clicks and make it easier to find those sites that many people often forget or for those new people.
I myself love doing things like writing reports, but am not good enough at it, or at least not better than anyone else who can offer to be a scribe.
I really want to contribute. I'm a columnist for our campus paper - I really love writing (and pretty well at that ^^).
But I can't torrent and hence can't watch all the VOD's. Plus I don't think I have time to watch all those VOD's every week anyway =(
If there's any other capacity I can help out...
Perhaps like editing or writing things that don't require me to torrent VOD's (like writing the old TL.net Awards thing you guys did after every starleague, or strategy, or whatever)
HOLY SHIT MY ONE THOUSANDTH POST I'M A CORSAIR NOW
hmm i like the idea of having each site specializing instead of having a site trying to take on the entire world of starcraft. each site has a purpose..
sclegacy is there to introduce people who are new starcraft to this world of starcraft .. starting with the appeal of the discussion of single player and fan created graphics and stories .. getting a bit of taste of the tournament scene and getting to know a bit about the pros (wcg and pp)..
tl is there to translate the korean world of starcraft into english .. plus its also a great place to find good players who participate in worldwide events like wcg as well as news about it
gosugamers covers a ton of international news.. so does wgtour.. but i still end up going to tl more since im usually more interested in the coverage here and the other sites seem to cover.. too much i guess..

Two months ago I would've loved this opportunity, but right now I'm not sure I want to invest so much time into this. I'd still love a weekly progaming recap news post like I requested some time ago, if you've got any plans on that I'm very willing to help.
It depends on how well you write. These days once I have the VODs, it takes me two hours to write reports for 4~6 games. I have a pretty polished sytem though (at last count I had written on more than 100 games). I imagine it would ake you a little longer depending on how friendly you are with uploading pics, using video players, html tags etc. I would say 2-3 hours to write a report though.

I applied but you guys gave the job to FakeSteve.
GOOD ONE!
FakeSteve does not even create new threads.... yet he is a writer for TL? @_@ Maybe this guy should be part of the staff instead if he's willing.
I wouldn't take the job anymore. I quit following progaming and bw in general after Boxer retired.
I'm was just saying how, even though FakeSteve is hilarious, he's not really someone who I thought the staff here would give responsibility to... Still, the tendency is to keep the staff friend-oriented.
I even had Uhjoo's [Xellos] blessing!
After reading that thread again, I realize I miss talking to ejai about progaming. Man he knew A LOT probably more than FA.
Don't bring up Steve. He did his thing and still is. He's not a news poster anymore so he doesn't deserve your flack.
I'm excited to see who we end up getting from this open recruitment. Just make sure you're passionate about it guys. There isn't going to be anyone patting you on the back and massaging your balls for doing it, so you better get some kind of pleasure just from writing.

remember how i'm a better writer than everyone else who applied
ill take the job but i want my name painted in green in italics and underlined. I want my picture to be a flower with wheels, you can arrange that for me now.

Can we not? Ninjas are reserved only for Anytime articles. And I wouldn't mind doing little translation services for TL net anyday but I am not a worker you guys can rely on regularly. HonestTea and Rizizizizizifmiaem are too good I dun wanna fux with their mojo
I have been a member for ~3.3 years and I think I could do a pretty good job as a replay uploader. Unfortunately, SC is uninstalled an I have no idea where they CD-Key is... Anyway...
Funny how everyone replying in this thread say they'd like to help and would be good at it, but cannot do it for internet/computer/time/gf or whatever reason. What's the need to reply, then?
It seems the real candidates went through PM. Or there aren't any candidates...
I thought about it... but I figured if they actually bothered with making me staff, they must be desperate. I would work, but me working for TL would probably be a bad indication of motivated workers. I am the beginning of the end as staff.
So much of it is writing proficiency, its hard to find someone who is able make descriptions and summaries entertaining yet also very active and knowledgeable about progaming, many people have one but not the other.
Lol? Tl.net staff member? Manifesto who's a complete NOOB who i've OWNED in bw now wants people to join tl.net. Why join a website that NUKES and bans ppl on a daily basis? I see nukes/bans every single day for no apparent reason. Normal blokes just posting to chat some and they get banned and nuked. MANIFESTO you have KILLED TEAM LIQUID. A supporter of the patriot act Manifesto has banned and abused his power - no more battles on the forums. You've all become slaves to his will and simply laugh at his stupid comments. No thanks Manifesto.... You can manage this site yourself since that's the way you like things. And while you gloat and gleam at the innocent victims you've nuked and banned - know this: YOU KILLED TEAM LIQUID.NET
Largest current StarCraft forum. It has had a steady growth over the years due to their forum policies. All of PGTour moved here too with our blessing and encouragment.
(by the way, if your going to make a point don't do it hiding behind a smurf account and don't lie: tl.net is far from dying, but actually growing, mani is not a noob and the banning policy has helped them and spared us from the endless crap that plagues every sc forum)

Teamliquid doing quite well... It has PANAMERICAN WCG Results while the tournament is already over. That's a first. Tl.net used to be on time reliable, and fun to chat on . But now we have forums that ask how you piss? WHo the hell cares how you take a piss and for all you ppl who actually sit down that's just bad. And then we have raging clue MOMENTS, what happened to STARCRAFT. Most new members who try and chat will be banned for no reason. Old days were better and you know it. Testie, Veg, Rek and everyone fighting for no reason and wouldn't get banned. Manifesto Bush lover, OH NO! He LOVES Hu JINTAO and is a supporter of Falun Gong Organ harvest! You're going to hell MANIFESTO.
(LOL PHYSICIAN HOW many times are you going to edit your post? Get a life and go do some homework) (LOL you have a photo of slayers boxer saved on your computer, that's enough said. You wish you can touch him don't you?)
Nick Burns says, "Right-click over the photo, chose -properties- to find out what computer the photo is stored. Move!"
P.S. It is not stimey, stimey sucks at bw and couldn't beat mani even with a map hack, stimey knows I don't do homework plus he can be far more dense & annoying than this smurf..
If I get BANNED then you know what I say is true. Manifesto even has an icon which is holding a "BANNED?" sign! Shows you how much power has corrupted him. If Manifesto STILL playS SC and has some balls I'll vs HIM in a 1v1. BEST OF THREE, replays to be posted on the website. I win I stay in website, I lose I'm gone. Of course Manifesto Is thinking TO BAN me right now but that shows he isn't fair and a power abuser.
Oh dear, here's a solution. If you don't like TL.net anymore, you could stop visiting it. Mani is Dumbledore and I am Hagrid. If you mess with Mani you mess with me foo.
I mean, darkheadpower sounds so dramatic in his plea to battle Mani 1vs1 in sc, but why am I cracking up so bad. ah, hehehe. Sorry, darkdeadpower didn't mean no disrespect whatsoever.. Anyways, I am laughing it up so hard that tears are tingling up.
I like you shark, you're cool. I liked tl.net until mani bans PPL for no reason. AND I mean No reason, and plenty of ppl. All I'm saying is ease off the ban for EVERYONE. I won't be back but tl.net should accept newbies/old timers and not ban ppl which DESTROYS the SC community. Ppl want to play and chat and all of that, banning them makes them say F**k that shit, Why do I even waste my time/botehr? see what I'm saying.
DarkDeadPower still thinks he is in battle.net. First just a troll & smurf, now he turns into a battle.boy. Spare us. Go away or manner up. You represent the three evils of the StarCraft community.
Applications will close tomorrow. Over the weekend the staff will discuss everyone who applied, and I will sent out PMs to everyone who messaged me at the beginning of last week.

DON't BAN. MANIFESTO, 1v1 ANYTIME.
mani is like one of the main reasons why this site is awesome, and still going, and im so happy he banned that loser mitsy who cluttered up every forum with his stupid complaints.

Others got also banpower forgot that? If i would not know it better i would say you are a female or a ex fakefemale
Dling Iso as we speak. Haven't played sc iN AGES but this 1v1 will be fun. Will be a treat to all the tl.net fans to see an AWESOME GAME where Mani FALLS to the swarm.
Honestly, can't you guys just IP check him? Or maybe he's using a proxy or something. I'm sure you have the IP addresses of all users stored somewhere, and it wouldn't be hard to cross-check his IP with the list of IPs you have.
