The most recognizable 2v2 player and one of the most active SC2 streamers, featured on TL for a bit as well, Mike 'ProTech' Ballman quits playing and streaming StarCraft. He was most known for winning PTSL Season 2 and being #1 2v2 random player on multiple servers' ladders, Korean included for several seasons straight.

As announced on his facebook page:
I'm done streaming SC2, thank you all for viewing and supporting me throughout the years. I will be streaming diferent games from now on.

Facebook source

Thank you for being one of the most entertaining streamers and good luck in whatever you decide to stream from now on.

This is a real shame, it was a lot of fun sniping him and watching him complain whilst losing

So that's the guy that seemingly always had a stream on. I never knew who he was until now.

Good luck in the future.

I've known him since the Broodwar BGH age, I can't imagine him quitting. I'm sure he'll continue to play, maybe without streaming which is sad because I also do enjoy watching his stream.

Aw, that's a pity.
Thanks for all your streaming, and gl with your new silly games, whichever they may be.

Can't believe this, streaming SC2 for so long and playing Broodwar for like 15yrs before that no other 2v2 stream comes close to that level of play except maybe Backtothis but who wants to watch a Terran play 2v2 every game.

Hopefully Mike will be back for the next expansion!

No, I think the words used were appropriate for what they meant. The OP didn't say he was the best.

People who post this must really not try to find other 2v2 streams because there are quite a few way better 2v2ers who get like 1/10th of protech's viewers.

He had a rather infamous attitude among the higher leagues, wasn't precisely known for manner. I think is what leZaeL77 was meaning to say in a less snarky fashion.

You listed kara who quit ages ago. Lillekanin who is utter garbage and forgot to mention cast and surrey in your little "2v2 hall of fame" you got there. What a warped view of 2v2. Protech was a great player. Hope your commitment to gaming gives better returns in the future ProTech.

"wave of retirements" the guy was just someone who streamed Troll 2v2 games and entertained people via stream BM. Not like he was a pro player or anything. Streamers change main games they play all the time.

They're actually really solid in sc2. If there was good maps and community support, 2v2 could be far more competitive and engaging. But 2v2s haven't gone through that much development because the community doesn't bother trying to make solid strats focusing entirely on gimmicky stuff and the maps are still awful.

Douche of a person who saw hacks like PTSD-sufferers see armed villains and raged when people didn't do the build he telecommunicated to them to do. Still, he was a top 10 2v2'er and really brought some exposure to 2v2 with his fairly entertaining stream. I wish he stuck around.

This name sounds so familiar... I must have run into him a few times back when I had a steady 2v2 partner, which isn't saying much about the level of play in 2v2 masters.

Anyway, it seems like we have a mixed bag of emotions in here. Always sorry to see people leaving SC2, so I'll leave it at that. Peace.

Well, it's not that strange.
I am well below his level, so it doesn't really matter much if I watch him or someone better. But protech streamed tons, and was featured on TL, which made it so much more convenient for me to go to his stream when I saw him in the sidebar, as opposed to start going through other better 2v2 streams and see if anyone was streaming. He may have been BM on occasions, but not really often enough for me to be bothered enough to start looking for other equally active 2on2 streamers. I don't support the BM though.

So even if he may not have been the best 2v2er in the world, or the most good mannered streamer, he still made me watch 2on2 stream a lot more than what I would have done without him, which I am happy and thankful for. So praise is in order I'd say.

That said, I do want to continue watching 2v2, and would be thankful if you could share these high level 2v2 streamers that you speak of. Or where to go to find them. What is the best way to find for someone (like me) that essentially only watch streams from TLs sidebar. Thanks.

They should have a special tab in the live streams for 2v2s There was no way to tell that protech was playing 2v2 from the sidebar... You had to know him.

He probably just wanted the attention and sympathy. It's certainly good to have some 2v2 streams for those who like to watch team games though. It's just really hard to watch him in particular, when he constantly makes excuses and acts like a jerk.

Pretty much epitomizes what I've seen and heard from him. Thinks he can't lose; therefore, everyone else cheats. He needs to check his ego.

But whatever. Some people like watching him, so I'm sure his following will be quite relieved that he's decided to keep streaming his games. More streamers can't be bad, right?

Pretty much epitomizes what I've seen and heard from him. Thinks he can't lose; therefore, everyone else cheats. He needs to check his ego.

But whatever. Some people like watching him, so I'm sure his following will be quite relieved that he's decided to keep streaming his games. More streamers can't be bad, right?

This was funny and sad at the same time xD
Random is hard work dude...

Can't believe this, streaming SC2 for so long and playing Broodwar for like 15yrs before that no other 2v2 stream comes close to that level of play except maybe Backtothis but who wants to watch a Terran play 2v2 every game.

Hopefully Mike will be back for the next expansion!

what about lillekanin

plays too much 1on1 recently^^ his 2on2 skills are higher than any other streamers. remember the good old times when i used to play lots of 2on2 and had the pleasure to play mass phoenix into carriers combined with his awesome mech

Good riddance!

Yuck. This is the first I've ever watched of him. I have no plans to ever see any more.
