The most recognizable 2v2 player and one of the most active SC2 streamers, featured on TL for a bit as well, Mike 'ProTech' Ballman quits playing and streaming StarCraft. He was most known for winning PTSL Season 2 and being #1 2v2 random player on multiple servers' ladders, Korean included for several seasons straight.
As announced on his facebook page:
I'm done streaming SC2, thank you all for viewing and supporting me throughout the years. I will be streaming diferent games from now on. Facebook source
Thank you for being one of the most entertaining streamers and good luck in whatever you decide to stream from now on.
|
That's a shame. Hope he finds a game that he feels comfortable with
|
It was fun to watch his stream, so I guess it will be fun whatever game he plays!
|
This is a real shame, it was a lot of fun sniping him and watching him complain whilst losing
|
So that's the guy that seemingly always had a stream on. I never knew who he was until now.
Good luck in the future.

Later Protech. Hopefully we'll see you come back to the 2v2 ladder after LotV ^.^v

I liked the stream a lot, good luck in the future.

I've known him since the Broodwar BGH age, I can't imagine him quitting. I'm sure he'll continue to play, maybe without streaming which is sad because I also do enjoy watching his stream.
|
Aw, that's a pity. Thanks for all your streaming, and gl with your new silly games, whichever they may be.
Who will pick up the 2v2 streaming ball now?
|
xdd, sorry but a troll who played in bronze league for 3 years criying about hacks every time he lost a game, is not the "The most recognizable 2v2 player" Power,kAra,Lillekanin,Snute,Aristeo,Cubert... just to say a few ones are like 10 times better xD. Anyway good luck to him.
|
Can't believe this, streaming SC2 for so long and playing Broodwar for like 15yrs before that no other 2v2 stream comes close to that level of play except maybe Backtothis but who wants to watch a Terran play 2v2 every game.
Hopefully Mike will be back for the next expansion!

liked his music a lot : )

The best 2s streamer. Sad to see you go. Good luck
|
i guess reddit has something to do with it

People who post this must really not try to find other 2v2 streams because there are quite a few way better 2v2ers who get like 1/10th of protech's viewers.
All this guy ever did was call you a hacker and bm you on ladder while cussing at you on stream. If people really are interested in 2v2 streams, rather than this guy's complaining, I do hope they support other players at this point. + Show Spoiler +On March 18 2014 21:32 ETisME wrote: i guess reddit has something to do with it lololol

Oh yeah he is. Maybe it's his byebye stream. Maybe he just really wants to be featured again.
Edit: It says "[Rebroadcast] Blast from the past"

He had a rather infamous attitude among the higher leagues, wasn't precisely known for manner. I think is what leZaeL77 was meaning to say in a less snarky fashion.

sad to see.. would always watch his stream when there was nothing else on... now that luxury is gone i know he streamed every day of his waking life the last couple of years, and thats where his primary source of income was from.. now im not sure what hes gonna do... hopefully we'll see him back again, featured!

Wave of retirements again. o.O Good luck with the other games!

You listed kara who quit ages ago. Lillekanin who is utter garbage and forgot to mention cast and surrey in your little "2v2 hall of fame" you got there. What a warped view of 2v2. Protech was a great player. Hope your commitment to gaming gives better returns in the future ProTech.

Team games are terrible in SC2. The most shocking thing to me about all of this is that people play them at a "high level."
|
Sad to see him quit, he's my favorit 2v2 sc2 player. I hope him the best in the future. Since there wont be any 2v2 stream, i can take his spot and stream 1v1 and 2v2. www.twitch.tv/lillekanin

"wave of retirements" the guy was just someone who streamed Troll 2v2 games and entertained people via stream BM. Not like he was a pro player or anything. Streamers change main games they play all the time.

Nice plug
Yea he does streaming full-time so can't really blame him for changing it up.

Wasn't Power his old partner way back when?

Always sad to see someone place sc2 on the shelf, though I am happy he will continue streaming and gaming.

They're actually really solid in sc2. If there was good maps and community support, 2v2 could be far more competitive and engaging. But 2v2s haven't gone through that much development because the community doesn't bother trying to make solid strats focusing entirely on gimmicky stuff and the maps are still awful.
|
Nothing of value was lost, glad his toxic racist self won't be a part of the sc2 community any more.
|
Meh, never really liked his stream much due to his general attitude, but sad to see one of the most well known 2v2 players leave.
|
As a person BM'ed by him on the ladder, I am happy to see him quit. May a more mannered player fill his void.
|
|
Why is there even a topic for this random amateur, could have just posted this in his "fanclub"... anyways good riddance
|

Douche of a person who saw hacks like PTSD-sufferers see armed villains and raged when people didn't do the build he telecommunicated to them to do. Still, he was a top 10 2v2'er and really brought some exposure to 2v2 with his fairly entertaining stream. I wish he stuck around.
|
This name sounds so familiar... I must have run into him a few times back when I had a steady 2v2 partner, which isn't saying much about the level of play in 2v2 masters.
Anyway, it seems like we have a mixed bag of emotions in here. Always sorry to see people leaving SC2, so I'll leave it at that. Peace.

I am well below his level, so it doesn't really matter much if I watch him or someone better. But protech streamed tons, and was featured on TL, which made it so much more convenient for me to go to his stream when I saw him in the sidebar, as opposed to start going through other better 2v2 streams and see if anyone was streaming. He may have been BM on occasions, but not really often enough for me to be bothered enough to start looking for other equally active 2on2 streamers. I don't support the BM though.
So even if he may not have been the best 2v2er in the world, or the most good mannered streamer, he still made me watch 2on2 stream a lot more than what I would have done without him, which I am happy and thankful for. So praise is in order I'd say.
That said, I do want to continue watching 2v2, and would be thankful if you could share these high level 2v2 streamers that you speak of. Or where to go to find them. What is the best way to find for someone (like me) that essentially only watch streams from TLs sidebar. Thanks.
They should have a special tab in the live streams for 2v2s There was no way to tell that protech was playing 2v2 from the sidebar... You had to know him.

Protech just announced on his stream that he changed his mind (maybe due to the feedback) and he will not stop playing and streaming SC2.

He probably just wanted the attention and sympathy. It's certainly good to have some 2v2 streams for those who like to watch team games though. It's just really hard to watch him in particular, when he constantly makes excuses and acts like a jerk.
Pretty much epitomizes what I've seen and heard from him. Thinks he can't lose; therefore, everyone else cheats. He needs to check his ego.
But whatever. Some people like watching him, so I'm sure his following will be quite relieved that he's decided to keep streaming his games. More streamers can't be bad, right?

This nickname steal is actually more important than Protech quitting or not quitting starcraft

plays too much 1on1 recently^^ his 2on2 skills are higher than any other streamers. remember the good old times when i used to play lots of 2on2 and had the pleasure to play mass phoenix into carriers combined with his awesome mech

Yuck. This is the first I've ever watched of him. I have no plans to ever see any more.
