Obsolete, you're wrong, and your arguments regarding language subtleties are ego driven and really don't matter. Look at the definitions you've posted:

1. A person following a profession, especially a learned profession.
2. One who earns a living in a given or implied occupation: hired a professional to decorate the house.
3. A skilled practitioner; an expert.

Look at definition 1.

A "professional" isn't defined by the success of making his entire living off of a field, it's defined by the intention.

You're not a professional web designer because, at this point in time, you don't intend to make your living off of it - just make some extra cash for yourself.

Someone who goes to Korea for the express purpose of pro-gaming IS a professional gamer - they intend to make it their career.

As an example when Ethermoon (www.ethermoon.com) started making Strifeshadow, they were professional game developers despite the fact that they had made no money on it because the product wasn't finished - it's the intention that fits someone with the title.

These are just a few true gosu StarCraft players, and there are many more. The point here is that these people are some of the best StarCraft players ever and all better than Testie (at least I think so). So Testie, I assure you there are more than two people who are better.

u cannot apply the word professional well, based on just the definition. If you gave a 6yrold skater 5$, it does not make him a "pro skater". Just listen to urselfs, u all sound like ur 12. The word in a general sense means in this context of the word pro, that broodwar is ur "job" as in, you are at the "pro" level of competition so that u can compete with others "pros" for money. So you have "pro skill level" and once u achieve that skill level and you get a contract, then u are "pro" ok? gg

In most cases, having won ANYTHING nullifies(is thata word TT) your status as an Amateur.(this is important for High School/College Sports, and things like Amateur Golf Tournaments) LeBron James accepted BasketBall Jersey's, and was no longer considered an amateur, and was no longer able to play basketball for his High School team(although his Lawyer got some kind of Waver that allowed him to play until they got a court date(and i believe the court date was after there season was over)) I'm not 100% sure on all of the details on that story, but its just an example, you can also look at the hundreds of College players each year that are no longer able to play in the NCAA because they have accepted gifts.
And, if you aren't an Amateur, then what are you?

-Pro Gamer : Plays StarCraft as his/her job
