Hello friends, I'm hoping to raise awareness for my tournament. The starcraft community, reddit and team liquid, has been great to me in the past. Thanks to reddit, I managed to get my lost keyboard back from anaheim 2011. With so much love in this community, I wish to give back.
I am presenting to you Cwall's Virtual Gamer Star League 2012 - NA. This is an open cup tournament that is available for anyone from bronze to grandmaster. This isn't just a regular tournament, it's a community driven tournament that wants to give back to the community.
That's why I love this community. Everyone is nice and friendly, and I'm going the extra mile and offering a $20 dollar prize pool. While this may not seem like a lot (especially when you compare it to MLG!) it is the best I can do and I want to give it back to what makes starcraft special; you.
First place: $10 USD Second place: $6.50 USD Third place: $3.50 USD
Start date: Saturday, June 16th, 2012. 2:00 PM EST 1:00 PM CST 12:00 PM PST
The current plan is for me to cast and commentate the event so far, and have community members come into skype and cast with me. It'll be kinda like a barcraft, you can drop in and out and speak your mind when you want about the current games

I feel these maps are the most balanced.

I replied on /r/starcraft but am not sure if you would visit there. I just registered here to tell you this.
Instead of $20 prize pool.
My suggestion :
- Give away some online subscription
-Reddit gold if the winner is a Reddit user ( everyone is ) ( $29.99/yr )
-Steam specials, where in games are upto $20-$25 . As of now Saints Row
-If you wanna give 3 prizes, then give indie games to all. They are pretty cheap. You can buy 3 different within $20-$25. The best part about giving away Indie games is, you not only support the esports community by hosting this tournament but also support small indie developers who make such awesome Indie games. Humble Bundle is still going on. You can buy 3 bundles at $8 each. http://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/ujzp6/dear_reddit_my_best_mate_is_holding_an_online_cup/c4w1qd4

I'd prefer money over a subscription to a horrible website or crappy games. Food>lelele

Any chance to raise the prize pool by donating some cash? Would love to do that.

generalizing one sub-reddit as the rest of of reddit is pretty ignorant. perhaps you should stop browsing f7u12 cause that subreddit is awful.
anyway, good luck on this tournament, i wish i could join but im busy that saturday

20 dollars.. hate to be a negative nancy but no one is gonna give a damn if its 20 dollars, not the players at least since its so little on the line.
|
its probably just an incentive for players to join

It is not like /r/starcraft is any good either. My le girlfriend made me a cake and firing people from their jobs and downvoting any comments you dont like so no discussion is possible.

Considering that there are tons of free tournys out there, this is pretty cool. He's not saying it's anything big, just hang out, play a few sc2 games (which you would be doing anyway) and maybe come out of it with enough to go to innout (fuck yea California). No ones making you sign up~ I don't think I'm free then though...

I've been on reddit for 2 years. It's all terrible. Every subreddit, even ones with less than 500 subs are full of memes and useless circlejerking. Any slightly different opinions from the hivemind get downvoted or deleted.
either way, gl with the tournament! I'm always here to support small tournaments, they don't get as much attention as they deserve.

Thank you based Cwall for the tournament, but I don't think I'll be able to participate in this one.

This tournament sounds great, I love community driven events! My wife and kids will be watching, I can't think of a better way to spend our Saturday! GLHF

Wow, thanks for the feedback. I do want to do an EU version of this, but as I don't have an EU account I will have to leave it in the hands of someone else.
The winnings will be sent via paypal.
