This is a thread to explain the things that you enjoy about your country. Your first post to this thread must be at least five things about your country that you personally and directly benefit from. So no bullshit about how awesome your political system is or how it has a high GDP/capita or how all the top internet companies are in it. I don't want to hear any jingoist nationalism about your country's military or lack of one.

1) The food. Really, no other country can compare to the diversity of food in the US, just walk down a random Manhattan avenue if you don't believe me.

2) The TV. There are like 3-4 watchable all sports channels. Food network. Plus, we generally get all the kick-ass American shows before everyone else.

3) My salary. No other country's lawyers are paid as much. Yeah, yeah, not really a good thing for everyone else.

4) All the land. Housing is generally cheaper than, for example, Europe (but there are notable exceptions, like NYC). The US has a low population density after all.

5) English. It's the lingua franca. A plurality of the internet is in English (compare English wikipedia with other wikipedias). English makes it easier to travel to other countries.

I'd rather live in the US. I'm glad I was born in Canada and I love my country but would have preferred the US for a couple reasons many Americans wouldn't appreciate. I'm certainly not proud of my country as I'm not responsible for my countries actions or history other than an insignificant payment of tax.

If it does, that says more about the insecurity of TL posters than anything else. I'm not sure what the big deal is. Presumably most of us are not in any rush to leave the country we currently reside in, and this is a thread to explain why.

I'm not from NYC, it was just an example. If I were in NYC, I definitely wouldn't have listed cheap housing as a benefit.

1) Free speech - I can walk down the street and discuss politics. It may not seem a big deal to Americans but in some countries (e.g. Malaysia), when I start doing this, my companions will start looking around to see if anyone is listening.

2) Money - Perth, Australia is enjoying a resources boom and we're carrying the whole country :p If you're skilled labour, it's quite easy to find a well-paying job.

3) Beaches & Crabbing - White sandy beaches with blue seas Also, I really enjoy crabbing

4) People - Perth people are one of the friendliest in Australia. A couple of years ago, I was in Brisbane and me and my friends noticed the difference straight away.

5) Sports - We Aussies love our sport and there's many to watch!

Okay, well, my country is not completely fucked. My government has a higher chance of sending our military to follow the US and allow me to fight than other countries. My country has decent gun laws when looking at most of the world. My country is also decently economically free compared to the rest of the world.
