To make perfectly clear, Day[9] is in NO WAY INVOLVED in my making this post!
Hey folks!
So, Day[9] has been doing these daily webcasts that are incredibly popular with people at Teamliquid.net. He's making the best effort he can to turn this into a viable business, but from what I've seen and heard it's not likely that it's going to turn a profit for him anytime soon -- in fact it's most likely costing him money that as a grad student is in short supply.
So, I wanted to suggest that people who have the means and are faithful viewers of his content, as I am, go out of their way to make a donation to help support his efforts. I'd suggest that an appropriate donation might be on the order of the cost of your copy of Starcraft 2, or about $60, though if you're strapped for cash, 1/2 a copy ($30) or 1/4 ($15) might be very appropriate as well.
If you feel motivated to donate, send some money to
splott@hmc.edu
on Paypal.com. (See below for ways to verify this is actually his Paypal account.)
I should make quite clear that Day[9] has no idea whatsoever that I'm posting this, and he might well have his reasons for asking that people not donate in this way, but I'll leave that up to him. The Paypal email above was the one he was using for payments for his SC2 launch party.
I'm going to kick off this donation drive with a donation of $100. If you donate, please feel free to post here.
Moderators: I haven't seen anything in the TL.net rules that would suggest that it's inappropriate to ask for people to donate money to someone else as a contributing member of the community, but if you or Day[9] think it's a bad idea, please feel free to step in.
Edit: If you're in a position that you can't donate, don't feel bad! These are tough times for a lot of people right now. If you can help, so much the better.
EDIT 2: If you want to confirm that this is an appropriate email for donations to Day[9], I believe he posted this email in his thread as his preferred way to donate:

(Third post from the bottom.)
There is also a link from his Youtube page at

if you'd like to use that instead.

if i had more then fifty dollars in my savings i would do this so much :/ but im broke cuz of college. but i DID buy a shirt from his brothers site, the pandabearguy shirt so that will have to do for now
|
Hey should sell the overlay on the replay time to advertisers!
|
I have been having the urge to donate some money for day the past couple of weeks, but i kind of want to wait for him to confirm that paypal is ok. I don't want someone else to receive the money.
|
is there a way to make sure that that paypal actually belongs to day[9]?
|
|
Not gonna donate when i dont know where the money is going. Generally dont trust random people on the internet asking for money. I know that you probably dont have any bad intentions, but still.
Should probably organise it with Day9 so we know it's legit
edit: nvm saw the post
|
On his youtube page he has this Day[9]'s Paypal
So yes, that is the correct pay pal account.
|
Double and triple checked. Please look at the link to the Day[9] Daily thread posted above, or to his youtube page!

Why don't you donate your money to something worth donating to. You know like the people who are starving around the world.

So why did you buy Starcraft instead of donating to the poor then? Same thing.

Trust me, I'm making an effort to do that as well, but I see this as helping out someone who's putting hours of his time in for my and my friends' benefit.
Edit: Let's try to avoid making this a discussion about all the alternative ways we can use our money. If you don't wish to donate, nobody will think badly of you for it.

Logic fail. Assumption fail. Total fail.

I hope you are joking, otherwise you obv. don't know anything about whats going on around in our world.

Assuming you bought sc2 since you're reading a forum called "Starcraft 2" is fail?

$15 is about 10 pounds, which is the cost of a few beers or a meal at a cheap restaurant.

Is your brain so small that it can't consider the possibility of doing both? Or is it the assumptions you make to try to further your juvenile post? Also since when is this a sc2 website, I'm pretty sure when I came here there wasn't such thing as this silly thing you call sc2. This doesn't even belong in this forum or possibly anywhere on this forum.
|
Well, i donated 10$ which isn't much but, atleast it is better than nothing!
Much love to Day9, you're doing hell of a job to the community!

So you are not working with day[9] on this... seems kinda like a bad idea. I really wish I saw day[9]'s approval.
|
No offence to Day9 or his show or anyone else but if he is asking for donations then I would prefer if he made a post himself.
Also I would like to know exactly why he needs the cash, there are other streamers too and they all run their streams themselves, some do advertising etc. but I have never seen another streamer make a post asking for cash.
|
Is this via paypal? If you want to get a large donation drive like this, it might be a problem with how large his cashflow's going to be...
|

|
If you want to donate to day9 go ahead and do it, I'm not sure if it's right to make a public spectacle out of it like this without his consent
|

Actually, it's quite intentional, since if he were involved it might run afoul of Teamliquid's rules on self-promotion.
However, he has in the past made very clear in the post on here and on his youtube page (see my original post) that donations at that Paypal address are quite welcome.

No it isn't, the last time people asked for donations here things went sour. I think this will rub some people wrong including me.

He's in no way involved in this, it's entirely on me, for better or worse, as I stated in my original post.
Edit: Once again, if the moderators or Day[9] consider this inappropriate, I'm most happy for them to take my original post down, ask me to edit it, or whatever.

Sean is awesome and if anyone deserves a few bucks in this community, it is him. The stuff he does is just ridiculously good. Donating to him is essentially the same as throwing money to the development of the community.

TeamLiquid's rules are not equal for everyone. If you are a great contributor to the community, you have much more flexibility with the rules. Often, Sean is THE great contributor (although we have a lot of other awesome contributors obviously). I'm sure he could make a donation thread if he wanted to, TL appreciates the fuck out of him. :D

wasn't day[9] talking about flying to Germany for the ESL or whatever? he might not be able to reply approving or disapproving this...

People who doesn't care about the donations or doesn't approve with it, should stop bitching about it.
Those who can and are willing to donate do so. choboPEon said it all why day9 deserves some donations, and who knows if this money will be the next prize pool of some huge SC2 Tournament. Always worth a couple of bucks.

Additionally, I feel that we need 100% need to know Day's opinion on this before such a thread is even talked about.
