Looks like a fun tournament. Will be sure to tune in. Will be fun to see if Madfrog can prove his critics wrong (see the thread for the tlo show-match).

There are lots of hostels close to the event location. Better book fast

I live quite close too - in case of an emergency anyone feel free to PM me for a cosy place under the kitchen table - I might not be home though so dont bank on it

Looking at the IEM structures figure, was there actually an Asian Group for this? I don't recall any coverage for it at all.

Groupplay will be Best-of-Three, mappool will be the Battle.net-1on1-mappool (all nine maps). Maps will be determined by veto as it has always been in ESL pro tournaments.

Definitely between Group D and B for Group of Death, but I'm giving a slight edge to D. Really looking forward to the amazing games that will come.

ok i just did, it clearly says 6 qualified and 10 were invited, koreans and chinese cant even try to qualify im assuming because latency would be too bad so it would make sense to invite them, so my question still stands.

i dont really care if theres no koreans or chinese i was just wondering, sorry if i sounded like a dick

Yes this is completely different. For most part this IEM is just for entertainment but with prize money awarded to the players and also a spot to the Global final for the winner. These invites are based on beta results and popularity because there was not enough time for them to hold multiple qualifiers. IEM America, Europe and Asia are the qualifiers players will have to go through for a spot at the Globals.

A is the toughest right now, C would be the toughest if everyone in it was at 100%, have a suspicion D will be the toughest though.

The whole tournament stage (top 2 of each group) will be Best-of-Five. So GenoZStriker is right.

Regarding Asian players:
I was in contact with both oGs and Prime and unfortunately neither could (or wanted to) afford to send players to Germany on such short notice. I would have loved to invite e.g. Check or Tester. The tournament was announced only ~2 weeks ago and 6 of those players qualified by getting top 3 in Go4SC2 cups.

ESL is not covering any travel- or hotel-costs so these Global Challenges favour sponsored players. Although the prize money distribution actually makes it quite a low-risk to attend if you are from somewhere in Europe, for players from Asia the whole travel would have been too costly.

What a weak move, that's like saying I don't want to compete with my opponens on an equal footing.

Wow, this really shows how much people over-estimate TLO atm. Yes he's creative and he uses cooky strats but his mechanics and micro-decision making (when to engage etc.) is rather weak.

I wonder what will happen to all the TvZ-imbalance-fanatics if IdrA actually makes it out of this group (which I expect, tbh).

Btw, does anyone know who'll be casting the QL matches? I hope it's 2GD. He was by far the best caster esltv ever had...

Dodging mirror match ups has always been pretty common in the Brood War community. Often it's because they're terribly uninteresting compared to the other MUs.

I kind of feel like Nani is playing TvP to prove a point though ^^

This is going to be so awesome - how big is the venue?

Also I like how there is a payout separation for 9th-12th. Means there might be some tiebreakers between group losers =P

I don't expect Naniwa to switch to Terran, so it should be 8 Terrans, 4 Protoss and 4 Zerg...

Regarding MorroW: He is waiting to stand-in for any Terran that cannot manage to come (for example due to visa issues). So he might still be part of the tournament after all.

The venue will be huge - gamescom is the biggest gaming expo in Europe and actually used to be bigger than E3 for a couple of times whn it was still in Leipzig.

Commentary for Quake Live will be done by Joe Miller and a guest I believe. 2GD left ESL TV about 2 months ago.

I know he left ESL TV but that doesn't mean it would be impossible to get him for this event. Day9 is not working for ESL TV either and is commentating SC2.
Well I guess Joe isn't that bad either.

I very much doubt it. He is a legend but in sc2 he is still not on the same level as some of these players. He needs more time

Group A is way too stacked, whoever gets eliminated from that group would have had a good chance to be the points leader on either B or C.

swapping artosis for madfrog would somewhat balance groups A and B.

I say group D is hardest. They have the strongest terran pair + the strongest player in the tournament.

Does anyone know how much casting Day9 will be doing? Will it be all 5 days or just the brackets?

Maybe Day9 has secretly been learning German. Day9 suddenly casting in German would be so epic. Too bad it won't happen

I assume (throughout the whole tourny) it will be Day9 and/or d.Apollo + an english speaking player who dropped out of the tourny

This looks great but I have no idea who Saren and Lucifron are, what are their stories?

Also anyone noticed there are the same amount of Terran players as both Zerg and Protoss combined?

I predict a TvT final and TvT make me QQ...

^ LucifroN is a former top WC3 player and is somewhat considered one of the top SC2 players. He plays Terran. Sarens is a French Terran player from aAa, mostly seen playing at ESL's Go4SC.

pretty sure between me and day9 we will be casting every game and every game will be streamed in english, however I am not 100% sure but I think unlike previous events in Cologne, we will also be casting in English into the crowd, where usually its only German.

Eurosport are producing a series based on the Masters events - not covering the event live

I don't know when the series is going to be shown yet, as soon as we do, we'll announce it of course!

The race distribution makes me believe they'd dediced it's going to be 2xT, 1xZ and 1xP per group, and then randomly alocated the players with that in mind.

By linking the first post of this thread to your interviews/news (which was great by the way), we've lost easy access to the complete schedule. ESL's site is down right now. Can somebody re-post the complete Schedule (not just the games broadcast by ESL.tv) in the first post? Would be much appreciated.
