Yeah, I'm guessing it's probably the Activision Execs pulling this kind of stuff. The response has been almost 100% Universally negative and I hope they come to see that this is not what their customers want. Edit: God, such a boring name.

NEW BLUE POST. (More of the same shit. If you don't like it, fuck off and don't post) Source: http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=13816838128&sid=1&pageNo=455#9092 That's quite understandable, Flanks. Privacy is very important and if you're not even slightly comfortable with revealing your real name in the forums, then I think it is perfectly understandable that you err on the side of caution and just don't post. It's a shame that some perfectly constructive and decent folk predict they will no longer be posting in our forums when we make this change. We hope though, at the very least, you will still be reading them. We've got a lot of other changes coming to the forums in terms of layout, content and the like and we hope that you will still find the forums a useful source of information. Hope OP or a Mod can edit that in. And that it doesnt get lost on the bottom of this page...

Before we process the deletion however we wish to inform you of the consequences of this action: - The in game and forum accesses will be disabled - Any authentication key used on this account will be made invalid and will not be re-usable - You will not receive the newsletter anymore - The account will not be re-instated under any circumstances If you have any further questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us. Best regards, Blizzard Entertainment Europe What the hell? I live in Croatia, and they expect me to mail them a cover letter just so I can delete my account? Also, a scan or photo of a government-issued photo identification? Plus I gave them the false address, although I gave my real name and surname. Also, does this mean my D2 cd key will become invalid, even though I have a boxed version? I've been waiting for D3 for over a decade now, but I will not be buying nor playing it under these conditions that Blizzard is trying to implement. Edit: and Michelle Alen? For real TL? ![]()

Then again that's a lot of pages of stuff. Thanks anyway ^^ PS Michele Alan (lol!) Call Blizz. Make sure you tell them the reason for cancelling is RealID. You might have to wait in line on the phone a while (it's a shitstorm.) but I'm sure it's faster than sending a cover letter from croatia...^^

Blizzard requires you to do all that so they can absolutely confirm that its you who owns said account. Isn't the fact that I'm contacting them from withing my Battle.Net account, and also from my e-mail account enough? I don't have any experience on how account thievery works, I supposed this is to prevent someone from taking over your email and Battle.net account and then deleting it, but still - mailing them all that just so I can get rid of my BN account? It's crazy Edit: hahaha this is the first Google hit for Michelle Allen ![]()

http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2010/07/07/real-names-rile-online-warlocks-and-wizards/ A wall Street Journal blog. Already 800 responses to it. The new policy caused some Blizzard game customers to experience a fury and hurt that many likely hadn’t suffered since their last siege on a castle in World of Warcraft. In Blizzard’s discussion forums, game players said the policy would lead to everything from identity theft to spam to stalking by “Internet crazies.” One poster said he was worried that a new girlfriend will could discover his “closet-gamer habit” by Googling his real name. “This is disgusting, Blizzard, and a violation of our privacy rights,” said one poster. “I was hit by a car once, but this is far more painful,” another wrote.
