i remember one time the servers being down for 2-3 days, but only once
guy is exaggerating, but every month or so there would be extended maintenance

Same. Their downtime was extremely minimal. But with WoW, a 2 hour downtime could feel like 2 days.
And they actually refunded your money or gave you added time to compensate for extenuating patch time.
