I don't normally like Destination PvP; it feels like a turtlefest where there's eventually one big battle and the winner wins the game. While the first half of this game certainly had some of that, an unusual unit choice by both players and a lot of base trading at the end made the game somewhat more exciting than most.
Interesting series for sure, but to be honest I will be rooting for Lux in the final no matter what (and I don't even like Lux). I just hope for some entertaining games, so I have something good to write about next week!
I predict a Stork 3-0 here, Stork's been playing pretty bad lately but PvP is Jangbi's worst matchup, coupled with Stork being more experienced he should be able to wipe the floor with Jangbi, especially if he remembers his incruit pvp godmode form.
I don't really like either player (and will almost certainly be rooting for their opponent in the finals) but I get the feeling this series may produce some nice games + Show Spoiler +
of course, it'd be really tough to do worse than the other semi T_T
Through a complicated decision making process (going against stork, at all times), I have determined I'll be cheering for Jangbi here. And cursing him for eliminating the last truly enjoyable player (in my mind) in this MSL.
Career stats are so overused. No one pays attention to career stats in other sports on a game-by-game basis. Much better stats would be winning % in each matchup over the last pro league season.
2 zeals out for stork, both chasing scouting probes with zeals right now. Goon out for jangbi takes out stork's probe. Jangbi moving out with 2 goons + 1 zeal, stork with 1 goon + 2 zeals.
m m s : / / s c r e l a y . a t h . c x : 9 9 9 or m m s h : / / s c r e l a y . a t h . c x : 9 9 9 without spaces obviously(to prevent smilies) First one works for me, not some others
Stork at Jangbi's nat, he has a reaver, loses the shuttle and reaver to goon fire prety quickly, probes and goons look like they will clean up stork's force.
Stork moves in with on Jangbi's natural. Drops the reaver. Jangbi picks off the shuttle and the reaver, taking very little damage. Cleans up the attack with reinforcing goons at the probes from his natural. Stork finally taking his nat, but he's ages behind now. Making another reaver.
thx man! working greatly! I am just happy we gonna have a PvZ final! I'll normally be with Stork but i think Jangbi has more chances in a BO5 PvZ final.
Jangbi moving into stork's natural, kill the defending reaver, goons on both sides dying, jangbi eventually coming out on top, but stork still reinforcing, he might actually hold
Stork baaaaarrely held his natural, I have no idea how he did it. Jangbi moves in again to snipe a reaver at the cost of a couple goons, and gets a scout out of the deal. I'll still give jangbi the advantage.
Jangbi counterattacks at stork's nat, and manages to break it with an equal number of goons to stork, who also has a reaver. How does that happen, stork? Another reaver reinforces, but jangbi still manages to get a single goon past into the main. Jangbi now on 6 gates, I think, adding in citadel.
Jangbi getting templar tech, I think he's ready to take his third. Jangbi getting zealot speed, and making some zealots. he has a couple observers with his army, moving into stork's natural, backs off when he loses an obs.
Stork with terrible micro, and then stork with great micro. Guess that's how you become a choke artist. Jangbi shows attack again, but stork's defense is solid (think there's 2 reavers there, can't tell thx to FPview). Jangbi looks to be taking a third.
Stork has another shuttle out by now, and he has 2 reavers to go with it. He loads one up, and drops it at his natural. He's still afraid of getting demolished if he moves out.
Archives and 7 gates for Jangbi (who hasn't expanded again yet), and 6 gates for stork. Dunno if he has an archives yet. Dt sneaks into stork's nat min line. Nothing there. Kills every probe there.
Meanwhile, stork attacks Jangbi uphill and runs over his army thanks to the 2 reavers. Jangbi retreats into his reinforcements after picking off the reavers, trying to buy time for storm to kick in now. Stork's econ is dead, so Jangbi not sweating it. And there's the gg.
Stork looked like he couldn't do anything. Then he looked really fluid, then he lost all his probes to a dt. If there's a more perfect description of Stork in one single game, I've never seen it.
On March 14 2009 14:29 vAltyR wrote: 30-kill DT for the win. Stork didn't even see it until all his probes were dead. Jangbi has certainly eared the nickname "Almighty."
Stork must have been really confident his attack was going to succeed or something!
is that VLC stream a correct one? it looks kinda funny and it does not open for me at all btw stork must be crushed mentally, basicly a single dt killed him in the midlate game
Jangbi moving out to make his opponent micro the battle while a DT becomes the boogey man, killing every probe on the planet, 30+ kills. Jangbi is my new hero, fantastic maneuver.

bisu's pvp has gotten *alot* stronger
he's 5-2 vs stork in the last 9 months
Stork is really sloppy recently. His game sense his way off and his control is not very good. This looks nothing like his incruit OSL final. His micro was INCREDIBLE that series.
Someone who knows more about PvP than me: Wasn't JangBi's main and natural open to harass for most of that game? Why didn't Stork go with his shuttle/reaver?

This is a good point. Why would Stork beat Bisu, but have such a hard time with Jangbi? Until you mentioned that Stork had beaten Bisu in several big matches, I'd forgotten that Birdtoss even had good PvP.

Agreed. I think he didn't want to risk it because he expected he could win or at least do enough damage to Jangbi's army with an attack right as Jangbi took his third to make it a bit more even. Don't think harass was anywhere on Stork's mind.
Edit: Stork made at least 4 reavers that game, I don't think he was ever without a reaver after he started making them until his probes were getting owned.

How does that not apply? Whether JangBi has reavers or not, it matters whether Stork loses his shuttle/reaver, regardless of what he is fighting.

Yes, since jangbi didn't get the fast reaver he had more gates and the reaver shuttle was the only thing that was going to stop jangbi walking over stork with ground units

Jangbi moving out again with 2 goon + zeal vs 2 zeal + goon, but doesn't do anything across the bridge. Both cores spinning. Both expanding, both see the other expanding.
commentators talking about how smart jangbi is haha. he pulls the zealot back so when he retreats the goons he's using to pressure stork across the bridge, the zealot doesn't die. (since zealots are slower than goons.) nal_ra approves :p
Jangbi adding in 4 gates (for a total of 7). Has a shuttle out. Doesn't look like stork will see it. Drops off a dt to drag stork's troops away, then storms the min line. Think he got about 5 probes and the dt saw stork morphing a DA.
Armies are dancing around each other near the central bridge. Stork keeps trying to creep the DA forward to get some spells off, its taken a couple hits.
edit: 3 kill DA, stork now officially my favorite protoss.
You know, people used to ask me if they could post my streams..
I've been trying to cut down on bandwidth usage yet here they are, every night. On top of that MSL is a pain in the ass to stream (thank doso for this one..)
Jangbi tries to move across the bridges in the middle, but stork is right there and gets off a couple nice storms, picking off a couple goons and taking no damage.
Jangbi with his min only up and trying to take his dual expo on the left side as well, but stork spots it and takes down the cannons there with a couple zeals. Jangbi cleans it up, but stork uses the distraction to move across the jangbi's side of the bridges. Big battle ensues, with stork coming out narrowly ahead.
Stork now getting his dual expansion below his min only online. Has a large army and appeared to try to move across, but jangbi on top of it, forces him back.
Stork swarms all over jangbi's left side dual expansion, jangbi looked indecisive on where to hit, but finally came back around to defend. Huge battle ensues. GREAT STASIS! Jangbi comes out well ahead there. Loses the arb, though.
Jangbi taking the right side dual expansion, and keeping stork from taking the left side with a single zealot. Stork attempts to attack the right side expansion, but pulls back when he sees jangbi's army moving for a pincer. Stork forces jangbi to retreat with some storms and tries the attack anyway, but the cannons force stork back.
Stork sends in his zealots to the right expansion, and jangbi circles around for the flank. He runs over stork's army and shuts down the dual expansion on the high ground. Jangbi still with a large army there with arb intact. Now picking off the min only as well.
Stork having to resort to zealot and little else against a well balanced jangbi army. Stasis goes off on a bunch of stork's zealots, and the rest are cleaned up.
Stork gets off some nice storms, but Jangbi has him holed up in his natural. Going around stopping expansions now. Jangbi shuts down the attempted expo at left side dual expo. Again a fight outside stork's main with lots of storm thrown, but jangbi just with too many units. Stork gg's.

ggplay fell the same way
Stork already braked the OSL curse, he had to qualify for the ro8. He looked like the OSL curse is affecting him, and will suck overall, but came back and passed not only the OSL but the MSL rounds too. Curse broken.
Jangbi played a step ahead of Stork the entire game. From early game, he got his expansion, even his cycore up earlier. He was able to leverage that into faster expansions, marginally bigger armies, until he steamrolled Stork.
Maybe that's why Bisu can beat Jangi: Bisu's strength is in decision making, not just superior execution. During both finals, Bisu kept wrongfootting Jangbi.
Stork has tried to play Jangbi straight up, and I don't htink he can do it.
that dt bait and ht storm was impressive but the fact that stork fell for the bait and was still able to pull probes so quickly is really damn impressive..

It seem to be that Stork got off slightly better storms during that match, and towards the end his army/storm positioning near chokes kept him in the game for a lot longer.
I think he got hurt most by not taking advantage of his army advantage when Jangbi was teching to arbiters, and by being caught out of position after sniping Jangbi's bottom left nexus. From that point on he just didn't have the army to be competitive.
edit: I think stork would have won if he had made it back across the bridges.
I don't understand why none of you feel the arbiter stasis was the difference maker. Stork went for upgrades while Jangbi went for arbiter + stasis. Stasis done right will always win a 200 vs. 200 PvP battle.
It's obvious that was the reason Jangbi won. I just wish stork had made another dark archon and kept on feedbacking HTs and the arbiters.

qft I was hoping stork would realize an army w/o arbiter loses to an army w/ arbiter and get another dark archon to feedback or mindcontrol the arbiter but he decided to lose the game instead =(
Stork tries to attack, but equal goon numbers (roughly) tend toward the guy with the better position and more reavers (both of which favor jangbi) and stork gg's. Jangbi advances.
I feel bad for stork, but he made it to the Ro4 in one SL and the Ro8 in the other, losing to two of the absolute best players out there right now; he should be proud he made it this far.
That said, I still hate stork. I wish I could like him, I really do, but I can't.
He didn't pull any cheese and outplayed stork through standard play in all three games. He's the better player simple as that. Plus the finals wouldn't be nearly as interesting if it were stork vs luxury.

Pftt, Stork just wants to give his teammate a shot at tasting victory. Unlike some other greedy bastards, he believes in equality. Plus him having to face Luxury would just be rape by Stork. He clearly wants to see a better finals, letting his inferior PvZ teammate play Lux instead.
I wonder whether Jangbi finding the 3 proxy gates has anything to do with the awkwardness. Someone in the house like him better and give away Stork's strategy?

Probably not. If I recall, when teammates face each other, they typically practice on other sides of the room or in different rooms, usually far far away from each other to shield their strats from each other.

Kinda wish JangBi went over to console Stork, but at the same time I can understand why he didn't. He probably knows Stork better than any of us do. Maybe Stork's the type who likes having space when he's sad? Anyhow, it was a good series, but JangBi just had Stork's number tonight. Everything was just a little bit sharper, and then that 3rd set was just wtf. His probe went straight to the proxy as soon as Stork dropped the gates. My guess is JangBi maybe beat Stork with this once in practice, and then remembered to check it again in case Stork was trying to do it back at him. Teammate matches are always screwed as all hell like this. JD vs ForGG was a 3-0 rapefest too. I really think there's something mental when it comes to team matches, where one guy has just gotten into his teammate's head, and rapes him thoroughly. Best vs Bisu. Jangbi vs Frozean. JangBi vs Stork. Can anyone else think of teammate matches that were really close? Only rapes come to mind for me.

iloveoov vs boxer was epic but yeah i agree with most of your points, especially the one about getting inside the other's head. you could just tell jangbi was more confident throughout the entire match. (probably because he wins so much in practice games vs stork)

I've never seen an in-team match set such a somber mood afterwards. Now i feel really bad for stork. I'm really glad jangbi didn't do his usual smug victory look after the match..
It's kind of stupid that the OSL and MSL schedules interfere with each other. You'd think they'd have the sense to work together to give participants enough time to prepare for each.
TLPD irritates me. I want to see Jangbi's record against each race over the last year, but there's no way to view it. You can only view overall record over a specific time period.

...so set that time period from 3/14/08 to 3/14/09?

omg you're so spoiled - just count it up I count stuff like that up all the time manually when I'm curious

pretty sure you can do this... you just set it to "vs Z P or T" then over the past year time period

I defend my stupidity with the argument that I'm sleepy. Heh...

Wait, what? I don't get it haha. That's what you typically call someone younger than you :o

Okay this made me curious as to what Bisu's and Jaedong's records are so far this year. Jaedong is dominant but holy SHIT is Bisu dominant. Jaedong a total of 46 games played 69% winning percentage. Bisu, a total of 61 games has a winning percentage of 75.41% (Plus a gold and potentially another gold, or God willing, a silver soon).

Holy crap. Look at Jaedong, Bisu, and Flash this year so far. Bisu 61 games with 75.41% winrate. Jaedong 46 games with 69.57% winrate. Flash 37 games with 67.57% winrate.

Stork seems to be able to put up a good fight against Bisu most of the time.
Bisu rolls Jangbi in every televised series they've had.
Jangbi rolls Stork today.
Jangbi and Jaedong are the best players offline as shown by the e256 tourney where they both reached the fianls. Jangbi is the best player on the Khan house and loses almost no games in practice even to Stork, Jangbi had nerve problems and could never show all of his true skill in live games. Hopefully by now he broke his nerves. It also felt that stork was defeated before the games even started, he knew he couldnt beat jangbi and he was going to lose.
I've always had the feeling Bisu has been the only protoss who kept a fairly decent winrecord against zergs... Is this is just me twisting the past or is it true that there have very rarely been top Tosses who managed to regularly keep the swarm at bay?
kal jangbi and free are all over 60% pvz, and stork is not as bad at the mu as he sometimes seems. hes kinda like best, their pvzs are nothing compared to their other matchups and they are capable of looking terrible at it, but on a good day theyre the favorite over any non jaedong zerg and capable of beating even him.
That site always takes forever to load videos for me. By forever I mean multiple hours. I'm on a very fast university connection (even more so since most everyone else is on spring break), but wfbrood is still just so slow.

Yeah it's really slow when the Chinese are awake, but they get the VODs up really quickly.

I rarely have any problems when I watch between 18.00 and 22.00 GMT. Usually it loads fast enough to just watch. Occasionally I need to pause for a few minutes and then resume. It's also worse on the weekend.
Luxury vs Jangbi, weird ZvP finals, since none of them is the best zerg or protoss, even in win they can't be disputed as such. Won't generate too much interest, i hope msl won't be too affected by ratings drop.

I have posted in the small vods thread how to get the whole series on your HD in 30 minutes. Search for it, I don't have many posts and only one in that thread.
As for the series: poor Stork we was totally crushed, I hope the last two days, going 0-5 and being eliminated from both leagues won't put him into a slump

That has more to do with him running into Bisu both times than Jangbi choking. I'd consider PvP to be Bisu's best matchup and considering how the guy is playing lately getting second place to him isn't exactly bad.
Man... poor stork.. He fought very well against Jaedong, i'm sure he could won if the games where not played in those imba maps. But this series vs jangbi really hurt me, now Jang must win or i will go to korea to kill him He has to do it for the crying bird
Ahhh. this will be a good finals. Jangbi has been soooo close to gold the last few SL's. He made semi's for both the Clubday MSL and GOM S2. I think it's time poor Jangbi got some glory. This finals is going to be between the two players who I think most deserve a medal...But never won one. Poor lux is too inconsistant but I love his play. (...but sometimes you can deviate from the allin muta play lux) Jangbi is a one man wrecking ball. I'm sure no other toss outside of maybe Bisu could 3-0 Stork.
really? i think this msl was lame and a boring final coming up
Ehh, I think Jangbi's PvZ is overrated and has inflated stats from raping Yarnc like 10 fucking times last year. But ehh, just my opinion. Will be close though since Lux himself isn't that great at ZvP himself. But we'll see. I'm just glad we don't have some bullshit maps like Tears of the fucking Moon in MSL.

well yeah those are just stats, but if you ever watch jangbi's pvz games against players like effort and etc, you can see it's pretty damn good
Jangbi is an amazing player overall so it shows in every match up, but his pvz is ok/good at best for some reason, but as the earlier poster stated lux's zvp is ok/mediocre at best. Id bet on Jangbi though, but luxury winning wouldnt be unfathomable.

Neo Harmony, Carthage, and possibly Byzantium...
Well Byzantium is imbalanced towards protoss in PvZ for MSL so its only natural that TOTM is imbalanced towards zergs in OSL. I don't know why protoss are bitching about TOTM where last season Plasma destroyed all of the quality zergs in OSL and Byzantinum in MSL and started the so - called protoss dominance era : + Show Spoiler +

JangBi still loses vs Effort... Bisu wins.
I am thinking that Luxury will win. 3-1
Luxury loses to nbs, and has to all in best(whom he lost to in a bo5)...
I am thinking Jangbi wins this, (no shame in losing to effort either)
Really sad for Birdtoss, he's a great guy so lets hope he can come back from this loss.
Anyone think stork has been a bit defeatist lately? When he said TotM was autowin for JD after taking the first game in the OSL I couldnt help thinking what a huge psychological advantage he gave to JD.
And the house interview that someone posted made him out to be an old man with arthritic fingers. He seems to have low self condifdence.
For me he is really entertaining to watch (even the 2base carrier days ) so I'll keep hoping he can go for more titles.
