The Hope's Bazaar Today is the last day of group-play in this spring's OSL. And mostly, it is former stars, who want to prove that they are not done for yet. Let us see them one by one.
GGplay had some much promise after his OSL win last year. From there, the road went straight downhill. He picked Bisu for the next OSL and got horribly trounced. He never regained his momentum, despite the switch to Cj Entus. His proleague stats are 1-3 and definitely not against the cream of the crop. This OSL is what he clings to. He walked through the early stages in a blaze, only to face elimination now after losses to the two of sharpest Terrans of now. His opponent now is good old Rock. Rock's popularity, besides face surgery, needs explaining. I think it is because he reminds us so much of ourselves, not as invulnerable as progamers usually appear, he sometimes plays great, he sometimes makes grave mistakes. That might make him a man of sympathy. But will it make him a man of success?
Nada is a phenomenon, time and time again. Who is in the MSL Ro16? Who needs just one more win to get into OSL Ro8? Who has more golden badges than Stork has 2nd and 3rd places? Nada's win against Jangbi was important. Losing to BeSt is something everyone does nowadays. But after his personal storm fiasko against the "best protoss of Samsung", this win kept him in the OSL and gave him sweet revenge. On the other side, I cannot help but feel sorry for Stork. In my mental picture, he is an old man sitting on a bench in front of his house, no teeth left, watching the road, telling of the times he was once a priced boxing champion. Come on Stork, show some fire once more!
July vs. YellOw is irrelevant for results. But the July fans, awakened from their year-long slumber, want to see the 2nd brother's blood as well. It would be style: Matching the brothers against each other, trouncing them, feasting off rooster for a month. This would set a sign.
Last but not least, Protoss civil war for straight advancement. Who is BackHo, hidden Monster or Bystander? How is Bisu, hurting wrist or back to shape? As for me, I still rely on the "Bystander"-Thesis concerning "da Ho", no matter how many Starleagues he sneaks into. After Bisu vs. Mind, it would be said to lose the Revolutionist that early into this tournament. My personal favourite would be the Bisu vs. July rematch. No disconnect this time, proper Bo3.

After the unexpected lost of Mind I've just lost interest in this OSL. Flash will take it with Best in the finals. ( if it's possible ofc and they won't meet earlier ). On this map GGplay will rape. He'll most likely play it safe with 4 early hatches. 2 in main 1 at nat then a 4th at another mains choke. Then most likely a early hydra into lurk with quick upgrades and a quick ovie speed. He'll just out play rock in the late game to eventually crush him with overwhelming numbers.

GGplay 1, Rock at 5. GGplay's ovie is going the right way. Rock pylons at his choke then makes a nexus before forge. Ovie sees the build. GGplay has also expanded to his high ground min only. Drone immediately sent out to scout but then brought back and hidden to expand with at the nat.
Rock went nexus forge canon gate gas core. Quick second gas. No attack upgrade. Definitely some kind of tech build GGplay with a quick lair. 3 hatch in main and one at another main's choke lol
Quick stargate and then robo from Rock. GGplays nat gas is up and he has about 6 lings watching for probes and early zs. THe ovie in the protoss main dies to a single sair.
I know about all the streams, this is a "new" computer I am trying to watch on, and I had everything set up before this whole thing started. YY for some reason doesn't load.
But let's not derail the thread with this, keep the live reports streaming in
GGplay with lair done, hydra den and about 5 hydras out. Plus an early evo then ..most likely a spire. The spire is always a good idea vs early sair because even if nothing else it forces p to get at least some cannons at their min lines just in case. Shuttle out.
Rock has also taken his min only and has 2 scourge chasing his sair. I take it back the cy core upgrade was dragon range. Rock pressuring gg plays choke...great timing! About 10 goons and 1 reaver move into the nat.
Goons move over and destory the drone populated base at the top left. Hydras try to save it but they are brought down with pure goons. Reaver drop at the back of ggplays base gets 2 drones. GGplay was completely off guard for that attack. Rock also microed his one reaver very well.
Wow... So disappointing Rock did nothing exceptionnal but GGPlay was like he was Savior playing FBH. GJ Rock for your Bo though. I'd be 1/1 if I did LB.

If it had come even a minute later it would have been completely crushed. 30 seconds later and it would take great micro to win the battle strongly. Using your sair you can get a great idea of the exact timing and just use that to time your gates to hit at the best possible time(generally just as zerg finishes populating his 4th base with drones). Rock did this exactly right and then microed his reaver well enough to end the game quick even though he wasnt all in.

I wasn't watching too closely but it seemed like GGplay didn't scout Rock at all beyond his first overlord. With spire and scourge out it would be very easy to see that a huge goon/reaver timing push was coming, but GGPlay just kept taking more bases and adding more drones.

but ggplay did nothing right. he should have more control... you cant defend that he played shit.

Ya youre exactly right. THat was a pretty big mistake you don't see zergs like lux and jaedong making. They also get the spire pretty quick against sair and get 2 scourge chasing it asap. Then they scout around the p base as much as possible until they die.
since his goons alone could have killed ggplay it means practically any timing attack would have. and thats not very good play from zerg:/ maybe he thought it was 15min no attack or something..
That game was so short they almost replayed the whole thing :/ Cute ceremony by Rock though. Now, the weather forecast says a storm is incoming. Go Nada!!!

Stork's PvT began slipping a while ago. As Fakesteve and I have copped a fair amount of flak for saying in the Power Rank discussions (him a lot more than me, though. Fakesteve was very vocal about it very early, iirc).

Heh, this looks like it was transitioning into standard - more or less. Nada does not want to go on with Biomech and Stork has no chance but to play standard anyway.

That was brilliant defensive play by Stork, both Reaver and goon control. Well, lets scratch the mine at his natural from the record, but overall impressive.
Nada is behind now but not by a whole lot. At least not yet, but he does have nice turrets so he should be safe. Nada doesnt have siege yet! 2 reavers harassing the frontl Holy shit stork came sooo close to losing his shuttle. 2 tanks taken out. Nada adds his 3rd 4th and 5th facts. Looks like he'll be aiming to do a timing attack against storks third base. Another turret nicely picked off by stork.
Stork has taken his 3rd at the northern 2nd nat. Hes macroing up gates. Nada moving out! Reavers are there and do good damange to the tanks. Stork moving a large army to cut nada off. Wayy too large for nada to handle. Nada wisely stops though and sets up defensively to try to take his 2nd nat. Wow stork spreading his units nicely, cracks the push then returns and forces the cc to cancel.

I think he wouldve done mu ch better if he wouldve just expanded a lot quicker instead going for the 2 fact timing attack which ultimately failed pretty bad. Didnt get the nexus or any probes.

On another note, after his cheese "failed" (it delayed Nada alot, so it was no total failure), Stork played it really well. He defended that push and from then on he appeared to find his way back into his matchup-mechanics, mopping up Nada like he would have done with any other Terran a while back.
Nada moves himself once again to a do or die situation with the tiebreaker. Then he usualy shines when he's under pressure. At least i hope so this time.

I dont know what bisu did, well my stream lagged when the battle commenced, but he was way down in supply, and fighting units. Only thing I can deduct from that is that he hardly played good in either aspect here, or just simply underestimated BackHo, which I doubt he did tbh.

there wasn't any reaver control by bisu, he just dropped the reavers infront of his army and then tried to flank in sucha retarded way using 3 goons and a zealot, Bisu you are pain to watch, go play with your buddy MJY - you are both on the same level

Well, if they use that system again, it'll be what - Flash v. NaDa/Jangbi/Stork; Best v. Luxury; July v. BackHo; Much v. Rock. Sort of a shame to use both Terrans in one match; that's if the second even makes it in.
My favourite matchups for the following rounds would be, if it was totally randomized:
Flash (A1) vs. Much (D2) - Much played well against Mind, so seeing him against Flash might be a gg. July (C1) vs. Rock (A2) - July is entertaining and I would not want to see him against a stronger player yet. BackHo (D1) vs. Nada (B2) - assuming Nada qualifies. Give Nada some more chance to show great TvP. BeSt (B1) vs. Luxury (C2) - BeSt at PvZ would be interesting.
No mirrors is the greatest asset of this distribution . Rock playing anyone else but July would be a mirror. BeSt playing against anyone else but Luxury would be a mirror.

You have to do cheesy builds once in a while, otherwise you're gonna be way too predictable. It was ballsy and it was a good strategy by Jaedong. You're talking as if good players never cheese.
Bisu is done, as far as I'm concerned. I never thought he was particularly good anyway, he just made an anti-savior build and rode the momentum. Good riddance.

It was only against savior that he was untouchable. Even at his best, he still lost against Hwasin, Flash, July, and others.

i feel the exact same disapointment in bisu, although i think it's because bisu lacks good training partners.
I knew this would happen but i hoped that bisu would win anyways.... Ahh well, bisu i dunno whats wrong will you and i dont really care, Theres new protosses who are much better like Lucifer and Best.
I just watched the vod for July vs Yarnc. Never seen the winner of a match look so sad - he was bordering on tears even before the gg, and during the ceremony.

After reviewing the game, I am actually not as upset as I thought I would be about NaDa's loss. If you watch the end, he seems confident and almost pleased.

This is OSL is worse than last year which I did not think was possible. The only interesting candidates are Flash, Best, and the winner of the tiebreaker. Besides them it looks like a fucking OSC bracket FFS.

You have to do cheesy builds once in a while, otherwise you're gonna be way too predictable. It was ballsy and it was a good strategy by Jaedong. You're talking as if good players never cheese.
