Theres also a reason just about every Starleague has the highest enrollment in Terrans and that Terrans have won about 50% of all Starleagues combined and why there are so many "by the book" terrans. Its because T is the easiest race to play at the progaming level. Not by much, true. Its the race that usually benefits the most from maps, its the race where the user can make the most mistakes and still stay in the game (anti-slippery slope), and finally its the race with historically the most even off-race matchup (TvP) (compare to ZvT where zergs struggled mightily for years and PvZ which... everyone knows about PvZ). On the other hand P is the hardest race to play on the pro level so you usually get the fewest protoss. O rly? Do you know why of 39 wins (OSL and MSL togheter) 18 belong to terran? Because 3 terrans own 14 of these 18 titles. And we know damn well who these terrans are don't we? And this is important. Because 3 very unique players with 3 unique styles formed this race. Their constribution lead to a race that is so refined that one is able to compete on prolevel focusing mainly on his mechanics. Your "by the book" was written by these players. And two of these players had no significant flaw in all 3 matchups. That helped you know... There are only two protoss players who hold more than one starleague win. One got them very early the other one managed his two wins last year. The rest of these 6 starleague wins for protoss belong to 6 different players. If history told us one thing (and after last year we can definitly say that) than it's the fact that one race will adapt to anothers race evolution. And while protoss and zerg finaly managed to adapt to one of terrans icons, the next guy came along to push the terran race further. Will this happen with zerg or protoss now? Who knows. Hmm Terran is so easy man. Not by much yeah. Oh no wait. Te-al-pee-de. If we combine proleague, osl and msl games togheter we get this TvZ 671 - 598 (52.87 %) = 1269 in total ZvP 407 - 377 (51.91 %) = 784 in total PvT 502 - 434 (53.63 %) = 936 in total We could take out the proleague, but it's not much of a difference for the percentage. PvT would be nearly at 55% the rest is basicaly the same. What that tells me is that we have a very balanced progaming scene when it comes to matchups. Of course there are allways players who do (or did) exceptionaly good, but overall we have it quite nice.

I'm not talking about the newbie or even foreigner level. At the Korean pro level, its the safest race to pick. Its very mechanics oriented, has well defined well understood matchups, and has in-built room for mistakes. Why do you think there are quite a few more T progamers entering just about every single starleague and continually dominating the top 30 Kespa (yet none of them are champions anymore, ironically). Do you think people trying to make a living and become winners are going to continually pick the hardest race to do reasonably well with? At the same time, why do you think the foreign scene is dominated by Protoss? Its not random.

I dont think terran has built in mistakes, if you get behind its very difficult to catch back up because terran harass is usually easy to stop if the player is ahead, where as speed shuttle and muta/lurk/swarm can bring people back in games.

In the past, when the maps often were horribly unbalanced I would say Terran was the best race to choose, maybe not because they are the easiest, but because anti-terran maps weren't as bad for terran as anti-zerg maps were for zerg for example. I think the reason we saw Nada, Oov and Boxer dominate the scene for so long wasn't because terran was the easiest or best race, but because they never had any horrible map that screwed them over. Choose the worst terran maps in a star league and see how the best terrans do and then put the worst zerg maps (desert fox, paradoxxx etc) and see how the zerg players do. I can almost guarantee that the terran will do a lot better. So what I want to say is that Terran is the race that is least affected by map-imbalances and therefore the smartest choice for the best players. At least I think it was like that before... Probably different now, I'm not sure.
