That's 88,6% of games played on most standard of current maps. Sand Storm was played zero (0) times. Not quite "New Worlds" now, is it? This tournament had great potential.. but it was, unfortunately, squandered. Well.. thanks for hosting and casting anyways, I guess. Cheers to everyone involved ![]()

Snow vs Ssak was played on new maps only and was really an interesting viewer experience! Even if it comes out later as long as there are VODs to rewatch it I have marked a couple matches, and matchups on maps, that I definitely am interested in.

From Ro.16, all maps will be used. and It's also very natural for players not to use maps that are against them. You need to change your perspective in watching this tournament. Don't focus on how many other maps are used In the stage after Ro.16, I want you will focus on which map players choose among the maps other than Vermeer, Retro, and Polypoid. That means the competitiveness that maps have. From my point of view, the initial purpose of this tournament is not to see how many other maps are used, but to see how competitive they are against ASL maps. For example, based on Bo5, you can watch which maps are most used besides Polypoid, Retro, and Vermeer. Excluding those maps, you can see which maps players have picked the most from the map pool. And that means that players like the map, which means that you can see which map is the most competitive among the maps excluding ASL maps.

He told me that nyoken and diggity would be doing the English cast but that doesn’t seem to be the case. I thought the default assumption would be winners are paid already, otherwise we would have heard something from the Koreans. I think in the end this is just a tournament held by Starcast TV mostly for Korean players, with a promise of an English cast that eventually arrived 3 months late. Looks like there are some big issues among the production team but we don't know the details exactly.

I'm not sure what he's going to do but he's probably going to make a post explaining it.

Now that you said this, I had a quick look and SCTV actually made this post a few days ago: https://bj.afreecatv.com/cruiser0929/post/107441205 So basically what SCTV says is the prize money is from Afreeca and Minerals, but Minerals didn't release his part (for the obvious reason we saw in this thread), so SCTV used their own money to pay the winners. I'm glad that the players are paid, otherwise SCTV would just be blacklisted in the Korean community. However Minerals is and we'll likely never see his maps being used in Korean tournaments. What a mess.

Looks like there are some big issues among the production team but we don't know the details exactly. There was a nice production plan in place but somebody’s ego got in the way and had to make everything extremely difficult. The graphics dude was paid and the matcherino is waiting for nwsl vod to release the funds… if the name of the tournament wasn’t changed then matcherino would release the funds. We need NWSL vod/brackets to release the funds as per matcherino admins. Would’ve been great if everything worked out as originally planned but these last minute changes from cruiser made things extremely difficult. https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/1125369059836432445/1133089428013850716/NWSL_intro.mp4

So I won't talk about this issue anymore after this post. Everything will get back to normal. And the prize I paid to the players will be paid to me through matcherino. And Minerals will no longer be active in the Korean scene. ggs

Including ending up having to apologise to the Korean community publicly in that Afreeca post somebody linked earlier. Not the first time we've seen here on TL that there's been organisational issues with BW events/community events due to Mr Minerals, but oh well. What's done is done. The cast being posted now on StarCast YouTube is really good, and there are some great players in this event. Definitely check it out, or the Korean VODs.

But just as inven or fomo (naver cafe's later tistory blogs) have been staples in korean language for getting information, same applies for this forum. I'm talking about the BW forum, yes. Guess where we are discussing this as well? Guess which forum we are all reading and writing about a small co-produced foreigner/korean tourney. Why do you think it shouldn't be, or that it isn't respected? Not sure what your issue is with TL, me, some posters here etc. But the site being online for 20 years is a fact. The site being a huge network of interested people (passive or active) is a fact. The site hosting a dedicated wiki for Bw (both the game and the scene/esport) is a fact. It generally allows you to follow, discuss, read news, watch events for/with/about/of Broodwar and also could be a place to organise tourneys and announce them! We might have our separate truth's each to our own but there's only one reality which we share. Anyway I'm sad to have derailed this thread and got you to comment.

Do you guys remember the Paranoid Android remake that was winning the map contest? Guess what, due to Minerals influence and propaganda, the map maker of new PA and his map were disqualified. This meant that a map by Minerals ended up winning (what a coincidence). In that contest, there also was price money which was part from donations, and once again Minerals decided to withhold it because only he "can decide what is best to do with the money".

On October 02 2023 00:42 Jealous wrote: A link to said post would be nice. Oh, his messages are in the map competition thread, and in our public discord. But i can tell you how it happened: 1) The contest organizer spent $800 paying players to test his map "sandstorm". He made adjustments to his map based on feedback from the players he hired, so he feels his map is the best map of the competition. 2) The contest organizer sent messages to 1500 people telling them to vote (and did not clarify that they should not vote according to the 1v1 meta). The people who received his message may have felt compelled to vote for the map created by the person who sent them the message. Or they may evaluate Paranoid according to the 1v1 meta and didnt vote for PA. 3) The contest organizer sent his map to different tournaments, so that it becomes known. And he shared VODs of his map being played by korean players. He sent some PMs to people, sharing this VODs. 4) The contest organizer noticed that another map has more votes than his map (despite discounting the latin american votes, or the votes of new accounts, or the votes of people contacted by me, my map was the winner with or without the controversial votes). I even provided a list of the people contacted by me, and proved strangers were voting for my map. 5) The contest organizer withdraws his map from the contest, and starts writing negative things publicly (about me, and saying that no matter how bad is my map, latin american voters will vote for it, and things like that). He also removed the peruvian flag from my map description, because he was sure the peruvian flag was influencing latin american voters to vote for my map, no matter how bad my map was. 6) The contest organizer un-withdraws his map from the contest (as he is the organizer, he can withdraw and un-withdraw as he pleases) and proposes that I should not be awarded the monetary prize. 7) The contest organizer writes me a message telling me to please understand him, saying that he has spent too much money on this contest and to please understand his situation. He never apologized to me. I understand he wanted to recoup a little of that $800 he spent. Or, maybe he spent them thinking it was 100% sure he would win the competition. Surprisingly, when we all gave up the cash prize, the organizer stopped the circus and accepted my map as the winner. 🙄

Oh, it wasn't exactly like that. He wanted to disqualify me, but he found a better solution: choose me as the winner, but not give me the money. After crying, he wrote a post saying that he is withdrawing from the competition, and that I am the winner. But he won't give me the money A link to said post would be nice.
