With cup format, sometimes you can have unexpected runs from the underdogs. Look no further than TIME miraculous run at IEM Katowice recently in SC2. Even more so in ASL where you have the Ro16 group selection, where basically one of the goals is to eliminate the best players by putting several of them into the same group. I expect the norms to be restored next ASL.
I think the whole evaluation switches, since "underdogs" in proleague are not necessarily "underdogs" in Starleagues. That's why I hate the BO1 format in RO24 and RO16, it is a whole different metric from RO16 onward.
