LB:Rain/Action
Waiting from solid performance from Rain.
|
Same here. Not sure how Rain will preform but it would be unwise to doubt him against someone like Bishop to open. I imagine he will not be in top shape but who knows. Looking forward to seeing him back.

so interesting to pick against rain in pvp! At least before he was retired he was absolutely unstoppable in that match up.

Rain's PvP is something else! But, during Kespa Era , Horangee had very good PvP too !
Also, Rain struggled a bit vs zerg (lost vs yoon twice for example), so if Action is on top of his game, Action > Rain
|
Till the games start, I recommend watching killer/shinee streams ! they are playing a great game right now!

It's funny that during the few games Rain played as practice for this ASL, he never played any PvP so we don't know what shape he's in. That said Horang2 barely played any games at all.
They are all here having fun rather than seriously competing I feel. But Rain base level is still so high that it makes for excitement.

I guess off-stream, they'll practice against some practice partners. For example Bisu said in yesterday's interview that he had practiced with Jaedong and Rush

Yea Horang2 PVP god, Action ZVP god...also the second map in the pool seems in favor of cheap Zerg units since only has 1000k minerals per patch

rain beat horang2 3-0 in asl7 ro8 not to say horang can't do it in bo1 but theres no matchup "god" atm
|
|
As far as I remember , Bishop played random at first, not terran
|
Of Course Horang2 strong Protoss he reaaly can beat Action in first game, and lately can beat Rain/Bishop will see

sry for my english

Bishop went 2-0 only in his qualifiers! Nice !!
|
I predict Rain will play unorthodox. He won't let Bishop play his game!

Bishop took out his mask! this means BUSINESS !

Early probe with a front first pylon ! Gas steal incoming in 3,2,1 .....

hmm i kinda feel like even though Rain won, he didn't play super well. Like it felt like there were a few opportunities for Bishop to snipe carriers. Also rains build order just felt weird -- never shot up in a supply that high.
|
Horang with his architectural design of his base
|
Doesn't look good for Horangeee...
|
GG! Let's see if Rain puts up a better fight than Horang

In 45 minutes i need to gogo! Let's hope they finish before
If no, I'll count on you TL, to LR a bit

am I the only one who is tired of Eclipse?

That's the kind of decision making a rusty player would make. Diving on the overlords to have a few kills, attacking into a turtle position. Bingsu could have won that game if Bisu were sitting behind telling him what to do.

+1 on that. Why would he sacrifice his sairs like that for a few overlords? He was forced to push zerg from that very moment
|
Slept this shit. My boy Rain on winners? Let's go.

Fast lingsss . Rain better defend well
|
If I were there, instead of Rain, I would have lost 13 probes, forget about the Nexus at natural and forget about making an assimilator also
|
Rain lost 4 drones - 2 scouting and 2 from ling harass.
|
Action playing perfect game so far.
|
I think on this map zerg should go with mutas or drop... Maybe Overlord transport is being researched... because of that isolate base P can take
|
Rain is more rational and decides 4 sairs are better than an Overlord
|
After a battle Rain has double supply....

what turnaround from Rain
|
TOP Player ! Well done Rain !
|
Woah Rain made it look so easy, just A moved his army and crushed him lol.
|
did action just not really realize about the 3rd from rain? Did he miss a timing in there? It felt like action was ahead but rain got to just delay his gateways 5-ever and get 4 gas econ going.
|
Can Rain become ASL 13 champion? Yes, of course.

well, i think a-move would have totally died. Rain hit good storms on high ground lurkers, kept his zealots from running in, and simultaneously hit a dt/ storm drop.
It is true though that Protoss getting to get **4** bases up and all their tech without having to build too many units is absurdly strong again zerg. Maybe Action should have attacked earlier? idk

It explains why he made no effort to counter it. He didn’t even have a spire.

Monopoly looks absolutely outstanding !
|
That push into the lurkers on high ground make Protoss look op af.
Should be put into BW textbook, lesson "How to push through a turtled Zerg base".
|
Other Protoss can learn from rains army management. He never over commits into attacks. He leads with goons and storms avoiding most damage. He keeps his zealots back while scouting for flanks and pulling back and engaging the flanks as they come. So much easier said than done though. He definitely played better than I thought. Although I expected him to advance from the group.
|
If a book with this name: "How to push through a turtled Zerg base" will appear , I'll buy 10 !

Heh, Rain learned from his own play. Check out his series against Larva waaay back in ASL 4 (?? i think?). Just a-moved armies and armies and armies into turtled lurker sunken.

Sneaky 2 factory build with a front bunker. Horangee should micro like crazy !
|
I think horang needs 2 batteries...
|
Great Hold! Horangee way way ahead now

Those were my favourite series, legendary games. I already miss Larva.

Got to go
Horang has this game in his bag.
And we'll see (not me, but you guys) Horangee vs Action rematch !

sh good skill.
but its ok action is my boy.
|
Horang2 and BishOp are a tier below. Expected result.
|
Yeah how do you defend that as Protoss. There are other variations like when they actually make the Lair then cancel it and go for Hydra. No amount of skill can help.
|
You have to place your canons in right position to defend it.

juicy storms in rain vs action

On February 11 2022 07:44 emperorchampion wrote: juicy storms in rain vs action I think Rain having so much mana from Action not attacking early, was also key to be able to push through. Even being on the low-ground actually helps in this case, because HT can't be sniped.
Maybe Action could have pulled away a bit or brought in more units + build a sunken. But distracting with the DT/HT-Drop just before was luring the support-units away from the main entrance and confusing Action.
It was just such a good timing from Rain - even if he wouldn't have killed Action, the combination of dealing damage and 4 bases kicking in behind the attack would have brought him in a very nice position.
My guess is Action was too much in the dark about what Rain was doing and where he was moving on the map. Definitely points out the weakness of Zerg doing quick 4 bases to Hive.
Somehow this reminded me of Rush vs Soma in last ASL, when Rush just broke through that massive sunken wall, unexpectedly pummeling the opponent at the exact and maybe only moment possible. Very impressive strategically!
|
Was action's third in a normal location on that map (to more easily take the 4th later on)? Is there a way for zerg to mineral jump to the 12 oclock in that poisiton like rain took the 6? Rain seemed to sniff it out pretty quick. Later on when he was moving his army between the nat and the 3rd he went in and picked off a hatchery and backed off. I thought that was pretty measured and he never commited, just built up a big army and tried to catch reinforcement coming across the map.
In his pvt game i thought his best move was dropping a goon into the main to oneshot the low hp goliath. had me laughing.
|
Rain seems to be back on top form! Some slightly sloppy engagements in PvT. But his quick carrier build was a nice creative touch for someone more comfortable with solid macro play. Is this part of the meta on that map? Or maybe he's trying to diversify his builds to mind-game opponents later on.
As others have noted, Rain just has a knack of picking the right timing and army composition in his attacks. The way he suddenly rolls over his opponent on relative even supply (or even slightly behind) is just uncanny. All down to game sense (ala Flash).
