Word of warning I'm not entirely sure this starts at the correct start time or an hour after GSL ends, but considering that the casters have to move from the old studio where they're doing GSL to the new one where they're doing the ASL I'm guessing we're good for the regular start time.

Really excited to see Soulkey.

Zero isn't my zerg hero of this age, the one zerg I feel can peak beyond anyone except Flash is Soulkey.

Snow is soo good that I imagine he will win and qualify.

The world is cray-zay these days so I don't feel comfortable that any of my favorites will win.
Go Soulkey! Go Snow!

Probably Snow and SoulKey advance, but past ACS winners (Soma and Brain) have both done quite a lot. I'm curious if Yoon can replicate that success—Snow's PvZ has improved a lot over time, but SoulKey's ZvZ... not so much.

I think that if you look at overall performance over the last couple of months (mostly KCM + spon games) Snow and Soulkey should be massive favourites to make it out of this group; Yoon is more or less completely untested in terms of big tournaments / lan (as far as I know?) and Ssak has had some good games, but also a lot of bad ones -- inconsistency is a real issue, but his TvZ is, in my opinion, his best matchup right now. The most interesting thing about this group to me is that I noticed there was a huge shift in the odds offered on the snow vs yoon match, when the line first came out Snow was a heavy favourite, and Yoon was at about odds 6 or 7 (Decimal Odds) -- but as of this moment Yoon is now at odds 2.62. Make of it what you will, but in my experience a lot of money has to be placed on an outcome to shift the betting line this heavily.

I'll also include some misc. spon stats that may or may not be at all relevant to this group; this is all based on the last 3 months (IE since June 2020).

Soulkey is ranked 4th overall, he has, rather surprisingly, a winning record against all top terrans: 3-0 Flash, 12-11 Light, 20-18 Rush, 13-9 Sorry, 12-5 Sharp, 13-4 JyJ) and a 3-1 record vs Ssak. Zvp-wise (for a potential match against Snow) he looks a little less impressive with a 3-3 record against Bisu, 9-10 vs Snow and 9-11 against Best. Lastly he doesn't have a lot of zvz matches, and the ones he has are mostly against lower rated players outside of being 9-9 against Zero, 0-2 against Larva, 4-2 vs Soma and 7-6 vs hero. He has no games against Yoon.

Snow is ranked 6th overall, and looking at his pvz I cannot help but feel that the most remarkable thing appears to be that he performs well against the absolute top, but then there is a decline in his performance against what I consider the 2nd tier of zerg players; 10-9 against Soulkey as mentioned, 15-17 vs Zero, 17-15 vs Larva. Those are all fairly close to 50-50, which is pretty much the best you can hope for; however he is 15-34 against Soma and 27-43 against hero. He is 3-0 against Yoon. His PvT is the exact opposite of his PvZ, as he is 5-11 vs Flash and 12-15 vs Light. For the next tier, he is 23-19 vs Rush, 41-27 vs Sorry, 19-16 vs Sharp and lastly 6-0 against Ssak.

Ssak is overall ranked 18th, he is fairly close to 50% win rate in all of his matchups and while I do think his tvz is slightly better, I don't think it's by a large margin. He is just not a solid top player anymore, whereas he used to be good enough to consistently get to the top 8 of big tournaments; 1-3 vs SK, 3-6 vs Zero, 6-7 vs Larva, 26-33 vs Soma, 34-43 vs Hero. His TvP records are not too dissimilar; 8-10 vs Bisu, 0-6 vs Snow, 2-6 vs Best, 8-8 vs Stork, 4-6 vs Mini, 4-4 vs Free, 7-5 vs Shuttle. He has no games against Yoon.

Lastly, Yoon is overall ranked 32nd, He doesn't have that many spon games, which is presumably because he is still rather unknown and as such probably doesn't get a lot of viewers / people wanting to sponsor showmatches. The only familiar names on his list in ZvP are Snow (0-3) and Shuttle (0-2). For ZvT they are Rush (1-1) and Sharp (3-8). The 3 highest rated zergs on his zvz list are Killer (1-0), Beast (1-2) and Hyuk (1-1). Not a lot to see here honestly, he has so few games and overall it is just the lower end of progamers and top amateurs.

Map-wise the first two games are on Ringing Bloom, a map that still has not been super popular in spon games despite being in the ASL. With only 419 games played, TvZ is at 57.4% and PvZ is at 54.7%. A rare sight to have a map where Z is losing both matchups, but the sample size is tiny, and the map has already had some updates since it was first posted as an ASL map.

The next two matches will be played on Eclipse, which is a lot more popular in spon games with an overall sample size of 2370. TvP is at 49.9% (217-218 games, wow). TvZ is at 53.6% and PvZ is at 45%.

The final game is played on Polypoid, which is actually the most played spon map in the last 3 months, sample size of 3162. TvP 55.7%, TvZ 57.2% and PvZ at 45.5%.

Ssucks best matchup both online and offline is by far tvp. Tvz is by far his worst matchup both online and offline (if you go + Show Spoiler +
2-7
against Hero who has questionable zvt atm...)
Then again, Soulkey is prone to underperform and Snow could be vulnerable against Ssacks harassive highrisk tvp.

Ssak was never impressive online. His proves in tvp and tvt made him dangerious in offline tournaments where he had great results against top players (for example Last and Snow). Now Ssak was the original 1-1-1 master, but nowdays struggles a lot because his trademark has been figured out.

I think Ssak has the slight historical T>Z in his favor and I consider him a very real threat to Soulkey advancing.
He is like all Terrans. A damn threat.

Yeah you can build sunkens under those buildings. It was a good game. Ssak had a good chasnce to win due to Soulkey diving in on top of turrets looking for the wraiths and then when he foound them, they had cloak. But Soulkey came back from that. It could had easily gone the other way.

Soulkey's attacks the last 10 minutes were unbelieveable.
And earlier Snow in his endless push at the center against an ocean of lurkers was a beauty to watch, stuborn as hell.

Oh my gosh. What a game. 2 of my fav players, duking it out until the map is almost mined out. Seems like I haven't watched a game like this in a proper long while!

Back and forth for 20 straight minutes or so!

That back and forth was pure BW, this is why we love this game. Two pros fighting at the highest level where they have no idea who is going to win until the last moment (like SK just said in the interview).

Please Snow, take this time to relax before the final game, make out of this group, we need you in the later stages for quality such as what you gave us.

Ssak fatally had his army divided by cliffs when moving across the map which Yoon's hydras took advantage of.

At least, yoon managed to win a game in this group. I don't think he can defeat Snow tho....

There was a potential for a big upset there when Yoon managed to position himself to flank Snow's army from both sides up a cliff, but he didn't commit.

Yoon didnt play perfectly in the beginning. He started 6 lings as soon as spawning pool finishes and threw 6 lings to get a lucky chance+no lair tech hydra pressure failed. He did catch up the gameflow really well, but no lurker playstyle was a mistake imo.

Yoon really loves using mutalisk, but i guess it is not good in zvp.

Hoping yoon gained some great experience even though he couldnt make into top16 and become stronger for next season

Wonder if Yoon should've committed on the 3rd instead of backing off. It was as if he drew every storm, got into position, and decided it wouldn't work.

I felt like a lot of people underestimated Yoon somewhat. From the first game, it seems he has the potential for an upset, but others seemed to view that game as if he was onesidedly overmatched. Its like they didn't watch the same game I did.

confirmation bias since its unimaginable to think that an amateur can even somewhat match the supposed best protoss player atm. get so excited beating up an amateur, what hope would he have against the likes of ZerO and Light lol.

Why are you writing as if I just wrote he will win ASL10? I just find it odd that people seemed to be watching a different game to the one I saw. My guess is that the English cast was onesidedly shitting on Yoon. Not every game can be Soulkey vs Snow.

Everyone hopes that more new blood would rise up, and Yoon did not get rolled without a win. First game was ugly, last showed promise. Nobody belives Snow or Soulkey would lose at this point but still victory over expro (even if its Sucksack lol) is good.

What the fuck was that SK vs Snow game. So insane. But I agree with Tasteless's take on that, Snow's unwillingness to transition in storm drops + reavers really cost him. Zerg got too big too quickly and while he had really good army control and storms, you need more consistent splash damage to deal with Zerg at 150+ supply.

The difference between 3 gas toss and 4 gas is incredible.
Depending how long Snow was afk on that, I think thats game even without the reavers.

I think his entire lategame sense was thrown off for that. 3 gas and he still banked 1k+ gas a few times.

8-10 templar would have changed any battle or another 6-10 reavers.

Hell dweb could have prevented a few of Soulkeys swarm pushes.

What a game. Still pumped a day later.

Wonderful game. I
