This game feels like a slow death for Light now. Not sure if a Non-Flash Terran can beat Rain Bo5. Not even sure Flash himself can do it. He musts be happy Effort got rid of him in the ASL.

I dunno, I thought his games were really good. He certainly seems a lot better at the matchup compared to just last season, going 0-3 and 3-2 agaisnt Mini and Movie (i don't even remember those games). Or maybe he's just more comfortable playing macro games versus less aggressive protosses.

As for Light vs Rain, was pretty cool to see Light up his game, and even take that crazy long macro game from a BBS opener lol. It is a testament to Rain's skills that he managed to bring it that far, but it also showed how really good Light's decision making skills, upgrades, and EMPs were to win him that game. The other games were nice and all, but you gotta feel bad for Light. The guy tried extra hard today, and it felt like Rain was almost always an extra step ahead. Even when Rain went for that fast dt build on CB, Light wasn't able to take advantage of it. Glad I at least got one prediction right lol: + Show Spoiler + A long macro game would heavily favour Rain, so Light's best chance is to go for a strike to cripple Rain's economy early on or take heavy risks so that he can take control of the game as he likes. I still can't see Rain dropping more than one map at best, even with Light's more recent form and newfound confidence I would've liked to see that hidden expansion last much longer. I mean, if even Sea can get away with it against Flash in an ASL finals no less, why can't Light do it against Rain? Maybe if he tried to be aggressive early on, though the reavers kinda shut that down, then Rain would've had less reason to suspect it? Regardless, well played by Light. He is not out of it yet as he can still beat both Action and likely Miso to advance if he scouts carefully.

It is weird but I felt like overall, Action played better then Where. One major mistake from Light was when he sent all his Vulture to the 3 o'clock base to kill the probes and Rain could easily bypass the minefield and wipe out the tanks, Light had a solid lead but Rain gained the advantage and never let go after that. If those 12+ vultures where there to defend the tanks instead Light takes the game from there. I felt like Rain was throwing away units in game 3 trying to close the game without having a real plan, I get that it was a crazy game of endurance and Light played a lot more controlled and tactical game towards the end, I guess all that TvT experience really helps in that game. Rain felt a bit lost towards the end. With such good play from both losers I am really impressed by this group. And my god the games where good.

Light never won a best-of-series against a protoss in the latter stages (round of eight and above) of major individual leagues during his professional career. His biggest triumph versus the protoss race in a best-of-series setting would either be his 2-1 victory versus Bisu in the round of 16 of WCG Korea 2007, or his 2-1 victory versus JangBi in the round of 28 of Incruit OGN StarLeague. Obviously he won more, but these would be the ones he would be most proud of I'd imagine.

He's certainly not bad mechanically, but I guess maybe he just doesn't understand the matchup as well as say, TvZ? Anyone have any ideas. I don't even think it has necessarily to do with the fact that he utterly lacks the fundamental flow of the match-up, since his protoss-versus-terran abilities are top level for an offrace (he has beaten Flash's terran with it before). From a pure theoretical point of view, the way he talks makes me feel like he has encyclopedic knowledge of Brood War in general. I have the feeling that Light is just not a natural competitor in general. This is a quality that is often downplayed, but it is an essential asset to have since you are competing at a Brood War tournament, not showing off your Brood War capabilities to an audience in a laid-back vacuum setting, totally free from consequences. It is true that Light does have a better skills in the other match-ups, but his utter lack of competitive results in this specific match-up has more to do with his flaws as a competitor, than any crippling flaws as a gamer in my personal opinion. Light, after losing his series, lamented the fact that he lost in such a disappointing manner, not being able to show the kind of skills he displayed during practice. Even during his days as a professional, he wasn't that bad during practice. Bisu once said on stream that when he was having his best ProLeague performance of his career, he had a joint-practice session with MBC Game HERO, and he went undefeated against the entire terran roster of that team, excluding Light, who managed to defeat him. Assuming that it is the Shinhan 2010/2011 ProLeague season Bisu is talking about (where he got the MVP as well as the most number of individual victories), Light actually had a sub-50% win rate versus the protoss race that season. Sea had a win rate that was closer to 60%. From a pure gaming point of view, Light may have been the better player, but it essentially doesn't matter from a competitive stand point if he couldn't bring the results.

The circuit breaker game is a perfect example. At one point he had 4 tanks killing the 3 o'clock nexus and he ran his vultures in to kill the probes instead of protecting his tanks and lost his whole army. Later on they were 4 base vs 4 base which is very good for Terran, Rain attacks the 6 o'clock base with his whole army and Light brings units too slowly and doesn't manage to save the nexus. He should have just attacked Rain's 3rd and 4th and he would have a very strong chance to close out the game but he loses his base, cedes map control and lets Rain get his 5th up. These were just some examples of bad decision making, he's mechanically solid but until he really learns the matchup I don't see him performing well vs Protoss.
