Hi, I'm Carrot from PgR21.. !
Quite ago Hangzri(Master of PgR in Sandlot) has posted one about a tourney with YG,
but since that there has been no sign from YG .. so we decided to have a separate one !
which is
PgR21 Tournament Season 4 !!!
Time & Location
We'll start on 1st Feb 2007.
In Asia Realm - we haven't decided exact time and channel
but it will be reasonable for most of us 
priorities for applying participation
i) Players who have participated in Blizzard SC Sandlot
ii) Players who are recommended by people including i) and captains of the teams in Blizzard SC Sandlot(1 recomm. per player
or captain)
iii) Players who are recommended by PgR21 Staff (2 players)
iv) Semi-pros or players in apparenticeship of Pro-gaming teams in Korea
v) Players who are recommended by the team & league masters of PgR21 FuRoLeague (1 recomm. per master)
vi) others (in order of receipt)
Those who are in i)~v) will be unconditionally accepted
whether the tourney will start from the round of 128 or 256 depends on the no. of people applied by vi).
N.B. The players of i)~v) are treated as seeds (thus they don't fight each other at first)
ex) if there are 32 players from i)~v), and the rest are 128,
then we will pick upper 32 from 128 throught competition and have the tourney from 64.

we will accept applications until the 24th of Jan.
Below are the application formats:
(Non-recommendation application form)
1. Name
2. Nationality
3. Battle.Net ID (Asia)
4. Race (you can have picking races, but it should be same for all maps - ex) TvZ, PvOthers (right) P in Luna (wrong) )
5. e-mail address, MSN Account, cellphone or Tel. - e-mail is COMPULSORY
6. Did you participate in Blizzard SC Sandlot (Y/N)
7. Are you a semi-pro or a player in apparenticeship of Pro-gaming teams in Korea? (Y/N)
(recommendation application form)
The introduction and Email/MSN/Tel(for confirmation) of the person recommends you should be prior to your info.
Then plz write your info same as the non-recomm. format.
Plz send your applications to

Tourney procedure
Round of 128(or 256) - single match knockdown tournament
Round of 32 ~ quarterfinals - a three-game match tournament
semi-finals ~ finals - a five-game match tournament
Up to semifinals it is a complete online competition, so the players must upload replays after the matches.
(we will inform specifically later about this - where to upload, the format, etc)
Abusing including proxy gamimg, intentional disqualificaions & surrenders shall be reported by everyone who are related with
this tourney.
Maps
Soonly there'll be a specific regulations about maps
but probably the maps will be the ones which are being used in Korean leagues.
Prize
Prize is as below:
1st place - 2,000,000 won (aprox. $2100)
2nd place - 500,000 won (aprox. $500)
3rd place - 200,000 won (aprox. $200)
Exticing player - 100,000 won (aprox. $100)
(selected from tourney staff - through replays, etc.)

This is an excellent idea. Finally, a grand-scale tournament that surpasses what even Blizzard could put together. I'm very excited to see the player list and the replays from this event.
Something I found confusing, however, was this:

mdb was making the joke that, even if a non korean player did reach the semifinals, the final would probably be all korean and offline anyway because the non korean player would not win.

Proxy, in the literal sense as to step in or replace. Basically no "account sharing".

This tournament seems like a wonderful idea and I hope it will help to bridge the major gap between the two communities (Korean and non). I wouldn't have guessed that pgr21 would be the ones to take the initiative to do this, but after seeing that interview it seems they are truly dedicated to improving the future of bw, which is great.
A possible translation of the pgr21 rankings into English would be an incredible step forward as well, but it's hard to complain with this.

Only non seeded players will play on February 3rd to find out who are the 87 non seeded players for the Main Tournament. The Main Tournament will start on February 10th. The system shows only the IDs of the players atm, so just an example:
49 group: 136K vs F35
F35 = mym.Artur 136K =Juliang
Both players can eliminate one map of the mappool (Blitz X, New Peaks of Beakdu, Luna the Final, Arcadia II). After that the final map will be choosen by a "Say a number and I ll tell you what you have to play" - Game!

Get off your ass, and hype this tournament. It's may be the most prestigious event we will have until WCG with so many big names and mixing a few great foreigners into a deep talent pool of koreans.

wow, that map selection process is really complicated. out of the 3 maps that haven't been eliminated the one with the number [(x*y*z) modulo 3] gets chosen while x, y, and z are randomly selected numbers between 1 and 300. that's gonna be trouble. ^^
apart from that, it sounds very well organized. i'm also impressed by the effort the admins put into this. e.g. they adjusted the list almost immediately every time someone posted a mistake here (in a foreign forum).
and i agree with testie, all the news-sites care about this way too little. same with the anywhere ladder. T_T as if they lost interest in cool innovations.

Well, it's all written on this page (scroll down past the Korean version to get the English one). OK, maybe the English isn't perfect but it's quite understandable
On this page, you can see who is seeded (green line) and who isn't. Those who are seeded will play next week (Saturday 10th), those who aren't will play tomorrow 14:30 CET. Since you played for YGClan on Sandlot, you are seeded and won't play until next week.
I haven't seen the time for next week's games but it's likely it will be the same ; anyway, Carrot will tell in this topic, I suppose
After tomorrow's games, 87 players will stand out. Next week, these players will meet the 87 that were seeded and the tournament will continue (dunno how they'll get to a power-of-two number of players from 174 but hey, I'm not the guy running it ).
Anyway, I might have been wrong somewhere but I guess that's it.

Well since there are over 192 left I think that the fir 87 will play tomorrow, and half of them will be in the final. And on another day the other 87 will play and half of them will go to the final or am I wrong?

ex; F12 vs 123K
(players no.12 on the foreigner list vs player no.123 on the korean list)

No, results yet, but they should announce the players list on the PGR site soon. Not that many people showed up last Saturday. So many players got in for free. I'm also interested in knowing who has qualified, so c' on admst.... give us that list! :p

so we decided to postpone the tourney to the nextnext weekend(2/24~2/25).
(probably held on both days)

ok guys heres how to upload replay when your done with ur done with ur game cus me and oldy were on asia for 2 hours trying to figure it out ;p
How to upload rep:
first of all if ur opponent didnt show up you don't upload anything, but if you played your game and won then you gotta go to
Step 1: http://www.pgr21.com/zboard4/zboard.php?id=furo
go on bottom right and click Write.
Step 2: When your on the page put info for Password(anything you want) Name(anything but its best if you put the name you played on),
leave Homepage and E-mail blank, at Special check the option which says "Secret" and finally for Subject(thread name)you have to name your thread by [PT4]group (no.). So for example, my group was 11 the thread name would be [PT4]Group 11.
Step 3: So now at Content you need to put some specific info which are,
(player no.) vs (player no.) @ (map) - (winner no.)
example 9K(my opponent) vs F28(me) @ Luna - F28
Step 4: For the last step you have to upload your replay, your going to have to name your replay with these these specific information, group_(no.)_(winner no.).rep
For example my rep name would be Group_11_F28.rep
Seeing as the games were bo1 you'd only need to upload your replay on Upload 1 and leave Upload 2 blank. Obviously when we get to the rounds where the games are bo3 you'd put both reps.(P.S above Upload 1 and Upload 2 are Site Link 1 and Site Link 2 just leave those blank)
Step 5: Click confirm then you should see a clock with some korean text popping up which means it's getting loaded, when it's loaded go back to http://www.pgr21.com/zboard4/zboard.php?id=furo to check if your thread got added on the forum.(should take about 2-3 mins for your thread to get loaded on forum)

most of the good koreans didnt even show up and a few who did lost already. kinda figured the semi pros would take it seriously as its a pretty easy tournament until the final rounds and a good shot at decent money for them.

It's hard to believe you couldnt fix any other time / date to play bugz, even if u work 11 hours one day you still have 4 / 5 hours to play if you sleep 8 hours. It's suspsicious that the only free time that you have during the week, is just the only morning in the week that I can't play. The good new is that u got what u wanted (freewin), the bad new is that next week your opponent will show up, and will crush you :/.

It's a korean based tournament on a primarily korean site. The past champion was korean, and odds are there will be a korean champion this time as well.
Either he plays at night time, or early in the morning. He should be accomodating.
For various other reasons as well.

M-W-TR-F Get up at 6.30 shower -> go to school, get out atl 2.30 -> have to be at work at 3.00 --> get out of work at 9.00 --> arrive home at about 9.15. After that I might stay up till 10, 11, or 12 to do hw, study, or just watch TV, I work with computers all day, so more computer shit at home is really not my thing after work.
Sat and Sun. I work depending on the schedule this sat I worked from 9-8 usually do 10 or 11 hours throughout a 2 day period morning or afternnon shift. Have to arrange schedule with friend that only works during the weekend.
Tuesdays I only have 2 classes, and get out at noon. have to be at work at 3.00 so I'm able to a little SC.
Idra this doesn't even concern you so I don't know why your bitching, I asked squall for his bnet ID, so if I had a chance to catch him I would play him.
Testie, yeah next week its the final tourney thing so its going to be bo3, I think that's what you asked.
Also he asked me 3 days before the tourney, not 5. :p

It's not my fault that he couldn't show up on Sunday. Also I went looking for him in his own channel in Europe and asked around for him. It was mainly due to the time zone differences. There's a 5-6 hour difference between us. So stfu plz.

honestly ... not to knock Bugz or anything since he's a nice guy ... but somebody of such low skill should NOT be in the top 38 of a tournament of this magnitude ...
it was kinda funny/ whatever that you got like top 8 at one of the USA open tournaments because of free-wins ... because it was mainly for fun and nobody really cared ...
but getting this far in a serious money tournament and being such a bad player is kind of an insult to all the top players who have practiced and played grueling matches against semi-pros and progamers just to get in this spot.

Personally I agree with everyone here. If you do not have the time to play in this tournament, do not start coming up with excuses, to justify your situation. If you cannot show up or play normally, then why even enter it? You most certainly are ruining it for many players (who would of gladly took your spot. Squall included). Either way, you will be knocked out, unless you find some way to gay mondragon out of it too.

That's noble, but "luck-based strategies" are part of the game too. Boxer definitely knows how to gamble, both with greedy builds and rush builds. Nada's scarier now that he's less predictable and mixes it up more. Testie 1-1 vs Tempest
Pretty bad games though.
Game 1 Blitz X, I don't have enough larva to stop his zealot attack cause I overpowered drones by like.. 3 drones or so. So he gets my building expo / kills it as it finishes with speed zeals. Then i'm disadvantaged and he runs me over.
Game 2 Luna, I random zerg he tries a zealot probe rush. It dies miserably. I build 30 speedlings after minorly power droning to prevent his expo because he has no citadel yet etc and a low zealot count... works like a charm, it kills him.
Game 3 Peaks, I random zerg and he does an all in zealot / 5-6 probe rush that pays off greatly. After that it's him chipping me away as he expands and i'm with far too low econ to do anything about it.

Game 2: Total Rape on BlitzX, according to Mani, I'm not going to hell. (again). Proxy Fact didn't work out to well afterwards 2 wraits were taken out followed by the killing of a drop ship full of marines. And the lift of CC. Fingers were bad to me today.
Was fun facing someone 10x my skill level, if I would of practiced I might of stood a little bit more of a chance.

The method you use is very complicated.
Basically what afreeca did was that they made everyone outside Korea pay to use, this is logged by youp IP, so in order to use Afreeca you gotta download a program that can set you up with a Korean proxy.
Complicated as hell and takes forever to get working alright.

I don't quite understand this. When they play on hamachi mondragon will experience less lag too and thus also play better. Zerg is benefited by less latency much more than protoss. I rarely play on hamachi but when I do my scout survives for 4x longer. My muta micro approaches the level of julyzerg a la 2003, I have so much more time to power because of the better harass and I also use my larvas much more efficiently because of faster larva response times. Overall I become a much better player, but so does my opponent. It's not like PJ will be able to utilize the lack of lag more than mondragon. This is similar to two sprinters training with weights on, and one telling the other, if we run without weights I will be faster because I am more used to running without weights. Come on.

Of course you're going to better at what you're used to, what the hell are you talking about? It's not at ALL like saying "let me run without weights and I'll run faster because I'm used to it." So what, if someone practices playing tennis on a clay court for 10 years straight and then has to play their match on a concrete court for a major game, it's not gonna affect them? Of course they'll play better on the clay court but they can still play fairly well on a concrete court; it's fairly similar. Not a perfect analogy but it gets my point across.
Also, I think Pj IS a better player than Mondragon at this point in his career.

Actually id say the map is by far too new to even make any valid statement about its balance.
I agree that maps like Paradoxxx or Gaema Gewon ( TvZ ) and some others are really imbalanced and actually make a difference in the outcome of a game.. But Peaks is not such a map..
If this map would be P>Z i really wonder why Fosken took it as his map vs some toss in a more or less important league game..

Peaks is pretty cool and balanced. P does have a very slight advantage.
But it's not for instance say imbalanced in that it's a 60/40 PvZ map. It's like a 55/45 PvZ map.
It's definitely not imbalanced to the point that it can't be overcome. It's not like Bifrost 2 where you have to get extremely precise timing down to stand fair chance at pro level ZvT.

peaks pvz is imba if the toss knows what hes doing and early exps on high ground + just reav cannons on his exps and plays defensive until the z basicly runs out of mines,

And to expand on TT1's point the map favors defensive play and high techs. two things zerg as a race lack in. Protoss FE and turtle expand for 35 minutes and wait for the zerg to simply waste its units away defending impossible corridors and perfect storm/reaver situations.

Well I have to disagree with the statement zerg is bad at defense with the rise of lurker/sunk/spore play these days, however on peaks that is harder to pull off than in many other maps I guess
P.S. back on topic, I really hope Draco takes it, it will be nice to see him win something after being in Korea for this time

In comparison to cannons/templar or turrets/tanks/mines/bunkers sunken colonies / spore and lurker are shit. People bitch because zerg in the last year found out they can make a good defense as well. But it still does not compare to what a protoss or terran can throw up CHEAP at every fucking choke / expo on a map.
Also, zergs dont have the tank/reaver or storm/sci to deal with those defenses. We have guardians, sweet highest tech expensive and easy to kill. Dont tell me zerg compare to terran/protoss in defense.

There are way more maps who favour Zerg over Protoss by a bigger margin. Not by more than.. lets say... 60/40 , but still.. Peaks is a cool and relatively fair map in all match ups. Slightly favouring P over Z and a bit more favouring T over Z. But there are so much more maps favouring Z over P by at least the same as Peaks if favouring p over z ..

Yea, this is one of the better non-broadcasted tournaments.
The roster alone tells you.
Also, don't be too surprised by PJ and Draco's results.
They may be foreigners but they are an SKT1 and Sparkyz professional.
I honestly believe they both have good chances at the title.
Still, Fantasy is the only other one I know in the last 4 and he is monstrous.
Either way, I'm really glad because it really seems Draco is improving.

Oldy vs Fantasy rep on Luna made me wonder.
1) Im not saying i'm better or as good as both of them..

2) Oldy had a huge advantage and still lost

3) Fanatasy didnt play THAT well at all..

I think everyone just forgot about it, it wasn't too stable to begin with. Not many people showed up at first and as time passed more people started not to show up reason I got for Freebies in a row. Maybe after Draco will be able to play they will finish it but things don't look too good. T.T

Note: NsP_flOwer was supposed to play Fantasy, but he could not participate in the finals. So PJ (who lost to flower in the semi) played Fantasy in the finals.
