hmm, will you tell me their races? I just know:
Silent_control and hwasin are terrans. The others?

Much[gm] - Protoss GGPlay - Zerg Saint - Zerg FrOzean - Terran
I actually wouldn't care if 3 Terrans went, their races mean nothing at this point. This is WCG and we only get it once a year, so everyone wants the top tier progamers competing. Out of all of those players, Silent_Control is the most accomplished one

Progamers are people and they have names, I think it's fucking stupid to only refer them by their IDs and nothing else ever. Some people are fine with that, but I'm not and I wrote the post that way because that's how I want to see it. Don't want to read their names? Well, move your eyes to the immediate right and you'll see their ID, too
Edit: And before you go and flame me all to hell, think about this: Do you refer to footballers only by the numbers they wear? No, you say their names. I don't see how this is any different

WCG qualifier is quite hard for progamers, but after the qualifiers the competition becomes much easier for them...
As been put long ago, a Korean just getting into WCG has his chances of winning it all increased exponentially :p
Also Koreans know little about how foreigners play and such so they lose ocasionally
|
thanks but that doesnt answer my question though....
|
Sweden33719 Posts
The answer is: Winning 20k$ doesn't mean anything compared to even getting into one of the big leagues, because the interest around koreans in wcg = not worth it compared to the interest around a player who does well in a starleague.
|
Where are the rest of big names?
|
Well it's not like everyone makes even nearly as close as like Boxer does, 20k is still a great sum of money.
And wasn't like the prize for winning OSL like about that 20k, at least in Shinhan OSL a while back iirc
|
Sweden33719 Posts
Yes, it's the same, but the sponsor interest is worth a lot more, both for the player and the team.
|
Like in most televised sports, the major income from for the player does not come from tournament prizes, but from sponsor contracts. Seeing as how winning a starleague nets you more attention than winning the WCG, it's not so hard to imagine why OSL/MSL is higher on the priority list than the WCG.
|
why only few players ? arent any other offline winners or smth ? btw i hate you silent_control !
|
How can you hate him ? It's fun watching him play + he can lose to foreigners which is something needed for me to have interest in WCG
And thanks for the update pubbana

There is definitely a difference - I don't know how pubbanana plans to defend that statement.
But the fact is that there are some people that don't know the nicknames. I've seen posts here of people using real names and they say "sorry I don't know nicknames" etc. The reason they don't know is because you hardly hear Koreans making reference to the gamers by nickname. It's always with real name. In the translated interviews, the translator puts the nickname in place of the real name.
Also, there are some progamers that change nickname constantly so that if you refer to them by the original nickname, you are making a mistake. There are other progamers that have similar nicknames or one of their aka's are similar to another progamer's main nickname... it can get confusing.
Anyway the only real reason to only use a progamers original and most famous nickname is to keep things simple. There are enough people that are willing to put in more effort (maybe for clarification, maybe out of respect, maybe to be more knowledgeable) and enough people that don't know the nicknames, that it's worth it to put real names.
|
Hey I got a question. Does ForU get any kind of Seed? And enough Korean Terrans in WCG. Let's see some Z action!! I would love to see an all Z roster from Korea.
EDIT - Way too much attention given to the name deal cuz of one stupid swede who thot the world revolved around him. Let the newsposter post however the fuck he wants, it's not like the rest of you scrubs woulda gone on Fifo or someshit and found this out. Learn gratitute fuckers.

And someone knows will reps be released? Cos last year we had countries that released reps, and some didn't(like Korea, Rus....). I think it's unfair everyone could watch and prepare for games vs Day, Blackman, Yan. But noone could prepare for games vs Androide, Ex, Xellos.

OK, football was probably a bad example, but you get my point: They are both people playing a game (yes, football is also a game) and they are both identified by a club and a number (or, for progaming, a team and an ID, such as OZ_Anytime or what have you)
Basically, talking about someone with their ID like it's their real name just bothers me and it WOULD be the equivalent of calling Rooney "ManU guy, number 8" It just sounds dumb to me. I won't do it anymore, though

there is no good analogy for it because in other games people dont have alternate names like that. however the point is still valid and i dont know what you people are bitching about. its not like its a major problem for you to just skip the real name and some people, including the poster, know them by their real names so just shut up.

At least show some appreciate for the work that the original poster put into his post. You take these translations and updates for granted.. you think we do it because its fun? No. it's time consuming and boring for the most part, but we put an effort into it because we all love the same game, and like the fact that non koreans can tabs on what's going on in the korean scene. The least you could do is say thanks. The original poster put an extra effort writing down the korea names because.. well hell, you might not care, but somebody else might - like me for instance. He didn't post just for you, he did it for the community. If all you can say to that kind of effort is
"why wrote the fucking names? I dont care about them :/"
and you don't know why people are upset with you.. then you need help.. or come back when you develop some common sense.
GJ Live2Win thanks for the update.

Obviously in WWE they are going to use their personas to help elevate that fantasy part. Yes, its a male soap opera

if you are talking bout ronaldinho would you use "Ronaldo de Assis Moreira"?
people more into footbal will know who u meant with "Ronaldo de Assis Moreira", peolpe who are like "i watch the world cup and support my national team but cant really explain what offside is about" wont....
=> real names are ok for people who are more into pro gaming (and, for sure, koreans), for the rest nicks are easier to handle BUT u made more then enough effort writing that post and its not ur business if someone is not enough into it to know the real names, thanx for ur post, dont listen to the complainin mob :D

Actually... Thing is... When you have a real name, why would you use an ID that changes all the time. If you guys actually watch the ally screen in the beginning, Casy has used the same ID about a maximum time of... twice. ~_~ He has a new ID on his screen always. Plus Casy and Casy Name on the same team and the Yellow Name and stuff -_-;; It really is easier just knowin the names but I guess that requires a whole new start for too many ppl.
Just for the community's sake - -;; At least know Lim Yo Hwan ~_~

I really thank you guys for appreciating the news, but you're being a little harsh on pighoe. English probably isn't his first language, so he probably has a hard time expressing himself in a way thats ... acceptable, I guess. But anyway, I want to explain on more thing about the names before I let it go
When I see a progamer, I DO NOT think of the ID. I think of their real names in my own head. I type out their real names first because I think of them first. I didn't "grow up" on progaming with TeamLiquid. For the most part, I gathered all of my info on my own, learned Hangul on my own, learned the names on my own, learned basically everything I know now on my own. Alot of you guys only knew about the matches through reports that Mensrea or Waxangel wrote, I didn't. So, the way I express things is probably different from you guys (Which is obvious because usually when I post something having to do with progamers, I get my ass torn to pieces for it)
I know TeamLiquid members are used to ID first, real name later (more like never) but to me that just seems basically wrong and it's because I didn't "Grow up" on the TeamLiquid way of doing things. So, if I do things differently, I'll try to change it. I'm very certain that I won't be writing real names anymore, only IDs.

Casy's TvZ is OTL tho, Jamie would have a hard time.

Like, I see a name but I can't place it, posts with both the name and ID are great (even though I guess I could just use progamer.or.kr, except they sometimes list kinda strange IDs there).
Also I wish you'd write more, your posts are always super interesting, it's like this tome of bw knowledge!
|
Try to write both if you can. Names are more important than aliases though, since some progamers multi-account (like Casy[name] = themarine[name] = bifrost and then people who don't know this get confused, blah blah blah).
As for WWE, NO IT'S NOT THE SAME. Why is it not the same? Because The Rock goes by The Rock. Progamers actually DISLIKE being known by their in-game alias. The Rock chose to be known as The Rock, and goes by it.
And please think before you say "But Lim Yo Hwan chose to be known as Boxer..." because it's different -- you have to choose an alias to start playing. And in fact, if we look at Boxer's other accounts, what do we see? LimTerran, LimYH ... get a clue? Why do you think Bifrost also uses TheMarine[name] and Casy[name] if he wants to be known as Bifrost?
|
actually I find this confusing and retarded
make one 'brand' and play to make it known not copy the name of other progamer, you will always remain the unknown terran -.- maybe things work in korea in a different way, but I consider it pretty dumb
like in the dubbed VODs "lim yoh wan this" "lim yoh wan that" cant they call him boxer just to stop saying "lim yoh wan" in every sentence? or call him the terran
|
i dont think any of these players will advance and come top 3 but maybe there will be some upsets this year as well! (as almost all other years ;O)

The korean zergs(unless they are HOT) will destroy the non koreans if there isnt an island.
What we need is a terran or 2 who is mediocre tvp and kind of iffy tvt.
And a korean protoss who sucks pvz
The nonkoreans dont really have a chance zvt pvz tvz(unless the zerg is someoneline like yellow) and tvp.
Any of the other mu's theres at least some chance, Those matchups really would be pretty one sided though

the korea strong player don't take enough attention to wcg, because it's harder than to select in msl/osl ,another reason is the different map which only play in wcg not in spl .
