So normally for a match like this, I'd give a bit of hype. Now that I'm a writer though, I can be lazy and copy-paste things from the most recent PL article! Mwahahahaha!
CJ Entus I lied when I said that FOX vs SKT would be the match of the week. FOX utterly destroyed SKT, and is going to leap ahead of them in terms of spots. In fact, SKT may drop out of the top 6 this week... maybe. OZ and CJ both have already had one match this week, and CJ beat KT and OZ, in Jaedong OZ-ian fashion, lost 1-3 to eSTRO. After OZ lost, I was like "well, there goes their chance at getting into the 6 spot", but then MBC demolished Stars. I'm too lazy to calculate now, but I believe OZ should still be able to jump to 6 or at least get very close. I'll check later and update then. Update: yeah OZ gets close.
Tonight brings to head two great Zerg powers. One, Jaedong, is tearing through May like no other, in typical post-April-Jaedong fashion. The other, EffOrt, is currently coming back into form with a bang. I'd argue right now that EffOrt is the #2 zerg on the scene, and Jaedong is the #1. ELO agrees with me as well: Jaedong is at 2314 (#1 zerg and #2 overall) and EffOrt is at 2210 (#2 zerg and #4 overall). Both are sporting monstrous winstreaks right now, with Jaedong on a 9-game run through an undefeated May, and EffOrt on a new record of 12 games, beating top players in convincing fashion since that disaster of a tiebreak. If the two go head to head, that'll be the match to watch, for somebody's getting c-c-c-combobroken tonight. And what if it goes to Ace... That'd be a good match as well.
Hatcheries will tremble, KingsQueens will cower, and the sky will be filled with fire if and when these two Zerg powers meet.
While CJ is the deeper team, OZ is on the upswing (kind of). Lomo is cute and HiyA is... well, not doing so hot recently, and even though we haven't seen him much recently, I still believe in Killer. If even one other member of OZ can deliver, we'll be seeing an Ace match. And even though I'd normally call for a Jaedong OZ Ace match victory, with EffOrt back in the action it'd be quite hard to call. Of course, being a Jaedong fan I'm going to say 3-2 OZ, but you never know... After all EffOrt (and Snow!) did just recently crush Flash in their 3-2 performance earlier this week.
Damn it, Jaedong OZ, and just when I thought you were doing well... In other news, at least Jaedong is still undefeated throughout May. Killer, Lomo, and HiyA... c'mon guys.
On May 19 2010 11:34 Doraemon wrote: will jaedong play? he's go his semi tomorrow
I guess then the better question is whether Oz will show up, or whether CJ will divide into two teams and play exhibitions against themselves.
*rim shot!*
Just kidding. Actually, HiYa and Lomo (oh god, Lomo) can be tricky sometimes, and CJ always brings it's A-game against top teams and players like KT, but sometimes can suck against teams it might be favored against.
Hope for some good games!

I was so impressed by CJ's play last series against KT. I can't wait to see what they do tonight. I don't know what they have planned for Jaedong in the ace match, if it gets there, but it will probably be a zvz.
Jaedong vs Snow is not something you'd want to watch. Have you watched a single JvP since 2010? It isn't pretty (for the toss).
As long as JD gets his game i'm happy but his semi is comming up which is a problem. Im betting he REALLY doesn't want to be sent in an ace since it might mean he has to ZvZ (vs effort maybe) which would require revealing a strat perhaps.

Also a ZvZ Ace match between Jaedong and EffOrt would be interesting... For some reason I feel like it wouldn't happen. Snow vs HiyA?
Hiya won't get sent to snipe EffOrt after EffOrt beat Flash. I think we're in for a ZvZ ace match.

yet another reason to send Effort.
And then OZ sends Killer? Oh no... that'd be slaughter. Sending a Terran vs EffOrt on Match Point, in the same vein, might force EffOrt to play without revealing a strategy.
On May 19 2010 12:18 Atrioc wrote: Wait am I misunderstanding the OP or is there no way for Oz to make top 6? because that would suck!
Yeah sorry Atrioc, I meant that OZ can't make Top 6 by winning this match. However, it's going to be close... and this way they have a better shot at taking it during R5 before playoffs.
I would really like to see Lomo beat SKyhigh. That would be pretttty awesome. Lomo looks so sad when he loses, it's like he's just watched a lamb go through a slaughter house. So whoever he plays, I hope he wins. Poor Lomo.
What else. Snow has been doing well recently, him vs. Jaedong would be cool just to see how he does.

It's against 2 hatch muta.
No, zergs have been going 2hatch muta all of the time now instead of 3hatch because of this timing.
On May 19 2010 13:23 rainei wrote: ah, GG. Wonder if Oz can avoid the Oz result.
Well, since sKyHigh has now been nullified, Cho's going to have to be more careful... now HiyA and Lomo are more dangerous, especially given Movie's vT. Then again, he still has EffORt and Snow to back him up.

Wut? It's against 3 hatch mutas. flash sends out a group of m&ms around the 6 minute mark I think? Before stim is done researching and he denies the zerg's third while pum, ping out of 8 barracks and 2 starports.

It's against 2 hatch (6 minute mark would be pointless against 3 hatch as mutas arrive later). Earlier third rax, push out with rines to force the mutas to engage them on the field and deny the third base if possible. The first mnm group can be sacrificed and it's still worth it.
As for "8 barracks" (on 2 bases I presume), that's against crazy Zerg (fast ultras), which does proceed from a 3 hatch opening.
oh wow, when I saw snow vs Hiya, I thought Hiya would be scared of any prepared builds and proxy rax. I continue eating my dinner, and I look down and I see 2 rax!!
Snow is going for the PvT grand slam with this game....
He's beat Sea, Really, Leta, and Flash in his last four PvTs. If he beats hiya, he'll have beat the top 5 TvPers consecutively. Well, actually he's missing Baby I guess
What happened to Hiya? He used to be pretty reliable a while ago. Hiya is Oz's best hope at scoring that 2nd win. With him failing, I think CJ has this 3-1. I don't see Lomo/Killer winning against the likes of Movie and Effort.
I'm sure as Jaedong passed Hiya heading into this game. "Aight bro, I did my usual job, got us the first win, now keep the momentum and play a strong game!" "So like bunker rush? Yeah got it." "No, I mean use all those hours of practice and outclass your opponent in a pro way!" "Yeah, I heard you already, bunker rush. Don't worry 'bout it."

I think Orion's "let my opponent 14 cc, then don't harass him at all, then let him get a third up unchallenged" strategy is beating Lomo's "lose every battle" strategy, but it's close.

If you actually watch the muta battles Killer micros in a way that actually works against him. He micros such that his mutas get less hits off while his opponent get more on his muta. It's like he's actively trying to lose.
Ok, ignoring Oz epic fail, you can't help but admire CJ's young'uns. Skyhigh fails, but Snow, Orion, and Hydra win it for CJ. Pretty cool if you ask me.
Not exactly all "young" but like their 2nd string delivers so to speak.
Hydra dominates. And I have absolutely no idea how.
I mean, I know how, I know that Killer let three of his overlords get sniped with hardly a glaive in protest. But seriously? Seriously? That was terrible. That was embarrassing. Go away, Killer. Go far, far away.

It's because OZ goes like... Jaedong! Jaedong is God! Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh super Ace! ... ... ... ... ... HiyA. Solid A-class, but loses so many random matches. ... ... ... Lomo? Killer? Um... hey kids... ... ... x10000 PerfectMan.
Oz is pathetic! Lomo rolled Bisu and Stork but loses to Orion and other infrequent players? And Hiya and Killer can't seem to beat anyone now... Killer is the epitome of choking, almost as much as Zero or PerfectMan.

Um Bisu fails more than all of OZ combined and Deep6 >>> 2base Carrier. Good build order advantage for one and Bisu fails on the second... And Lomo was doing pretty well as well.
Sigh Jaedong OZ. Y'know, you were close to making it to 6. Now you'll have to fight your way in again.

Godamn Oz result.
It's his new signature move!
Canceling crucial crap is cool, clearly.
Oh, unintentional alliteration is unintentional.
Nice alliteration
I also had no idea he attempted to build another evo chamber but canceled it. Pretty bizarre.

Jaedong must be so pissed off right now.
I expected at least one of HiyA, Lomo or Killer to take a match and at least bring it to ACE. Wishful thinking...
Also, can someone explain to me how the heck Killer lost the match after sniping 7 or so drones, besides losing all those ovies...
Losing from a winning position is nothing new for Killer. He lost because his muta micro was failtastic. Hell, he probably could've just attack moved with those mutas and produced better results.

Wait, I thought losing from a winning position was SKT Zergs' job, though I suppose that isn't completely true anymore. Hm....
And I thought Killer would have, at minimum, semi-decent muta micro, if he's practicing with JD.
On May 19 2010 16:42 benjammin wrote: i wonder if there's a way on tlpd to determine how many matches jaedong had the only OZ win or won 2 of 3 matches
I was looking through TLPD for R4 of this PL so far, and we have:
JD winning 2/3 matches: 4 JD winning the only game: 2 Matches played by Oz this round: 10 (?)
"After seeing the player that is considered the best not playing in order to practice for individual leagues in a situation where every team is concentrating on the proleague, I wondered if he was lacking a little confidence. I'm not sure if the team purposely didn't let him play or if it was requested by himself, but I was very disappointed. Back when my schedule was full, I prepared and play for both my individual and proleague games."
[/Stork]
But seriously, yeah it is pretty cool, should be a good set hopefully.

I think expectations and pressure on Killer to perform have been too high.

There was an article on which teams are the most dependent on their best players a couple months back, so it's possible.

I think that was done manually / through liquipedia or an R&S thread, maybe. Unless you can write SQL queries to the TLPD server (if that's even possible, since I bet the public doesn't have permission...)
Even Bisu, one of the only stars who was really well-known as an amateur, was drafted second in the first-ever draft to someone named Lee Dong Min
Flying is pretty good, but I think he just needs to develop. I'm guessing Neo.g_zerO isn't ZeRo? And PianO is decent in my eyes as well. Either way, there's like 3 A teamers on that list so that is pretty good.
