The thing is, Best would be able to play all 3 matchups if he could play some solid defense in the early game. His macro is good enough that if it gets to late game, he can walk all over most players. The thing is, every game I've seen him lose in the past month or so has been him getting greedy, cheesy, or just plain sloppy in the early game, and then lose while trying to play catch-up through the rest of the game.
vs. Zero: Let lings in early, gave away unnecessary probe kills, on the back foot from there.

vs. Violet: Careless mismicro in 4gategoon v 4gategoon, delays his expansion. He then goes DTs to Violet's observers, which puts him further behind.
vs. Shuttle: Goes DTs vs 1gate obs(? can't remember), loses off disadvantage.
He just needs to play a safer early game, and he could really roll a lot of players as the game gets into the later stages if he doesn't let himself fall too far behind.

I think in the coarse of one game zero went from being one of my least favorite players to one of my favorite players. That was some freaking awesome harassment that managed to delay the gg (which was inevitable with the amount of tanks Fantasy had) and even almost win him the game. I really liked the lategame strategies both players had for this game. Anyone know if fantasy actually build more medics just to win time by his mineral patches?
The game might have been quite different had the SCVs not been kept alive until that slow mech could come to handle the harass.

weird weird game with fantasy's weird build... full mech late game army showed its weakness in that game, fantay's army is immobile and zero tried to abuse that weakness by constant dropping all over the place...
and it seems to me that the only reason why fantasy get his science vessel at the late game is to get zero to spend his gas on scourge, he don even need the science vessels to tear through the zerg army head on...

I actually think he did this intentionally. If he switched to mutas they would have gotten raped by irradiate and the mnm. Besides, He was microing his ultras really well for the most part and since his strategy was so dependent on drop I think they fit in. Maybe it wasn't an ideal counter strat but I definitely think Zero had winning chances.

It's hard to stop a double expand on Neo Moon Glaive because you can secure that area above the ramp to the nine o clock and secure both expansions. You need to drop, which is what ZerO did. That's why I feel that this strategy is useless on other maps because you can't secure a double expansion while your army is in transition from bio to mech. And if you can't, you don't have enough resources (remember your main and nat run out soon) to support a pure mech army.

It's not that I get a ton of joy watching unorthodox play, like Flying vs Effort for example. This game however was just.......I don't know. I think it's mainly Zero's fault for not adapting. Fantasy's build was cool and all, but the lack of anti air and Zero's not exploiting it really made me rage for some reason lol.
Good for the people that enjoyed it, terrible for me. I don't even like Zero or Fantasy, so this doesn't really affect me that much =p

Probably not but better to use that gas on air units instead of ultralisks that die to 12+ upgraded (or upgrading) tanks sitting on the high ground.

Fantasy had obviously practiced with free as his ace opponent in mind. Apparently no need to change his strategy.

zero probably thought he could disorient fantasy by doing multiple drops at different locations, but they were too weak

I think what cost ZerO the game was the fact that while he was constantly dropping his opponents base he didn´t really use drops to defend that much. There was countless times when he could´ve just dropped like 10 lings and get 5-10 tanks but I only saw him make a defensive drop or "lingbomb" like once.
Also I think swarms were quite useless against all those tanks, he should´ve used them to take down expos more efficiently if at all IMO.
And mutas would´ve pushed Fantasy back and weakened his army - more gols/rines = less tanks/vults. Pure Vessels can´t handle like 12 mutas, he wouldn´t have even needed to stack the mutas making Irradiate less powerful.
But then again I´m just a theorycrafting noob. Fascinating came nonetheless

I also noticed that zero already had plague researched but only saw him use it once against a few tanks. He should have plagued fantasy's tanks alot more often if he was going to stick to lings+ultralisks.

ZerO lost a crap tonne of drones to late game vulture harass.
His eco was getting weaker and weaker, while fantasy eventually managed to secure his(slowly, but surely)
ZerO couldn't fight fantasys huge army directly at the moment, so he opted for counters and drops to try to slow fantasy down until he could amass a ball of his own. He was doing good, but left himself open to fantasys vultures in the meantime

This is actually relevant.
3/3 Tanks vs 0/0 Mutalisks. A Muta switch accomplishes almost nothing, because the Mutalisks do almost no damage to the tanks (I could be wrong, but 5 damage a hit, with no bounce damage because the bounce damage values are 3 and 1 and the tank has 4 armor). A guardian switch is even worse, because its more gas intensive, and the morphing Greater Spire gives Fantasy time to prepare.

Plus Guardians also take time to morph as well, and they move as slow as hell to be of any immediate threat. Fantasy probably would've gotten some more goliaths by then.
If you rewatch, it didn't seem like Zero's economy was good enough to get more than 2-3 ultras at a time = 5-6 mutas at a time. Money spent on a muta switch probably wouldn't have done him any good, because irradiate + 1 round of goliaths will likely clean up that force. If he had waited back for a mass of mutas, it would've given Fantasy time to prepare as well. His aggressive drops COULD have won him the game if he had been able to deny vulture harass a bit better to buy himself time for a better economy.

I agree that drops everywhere were the effective way to win. he was really digging into fantasy hard. At the end of the game, all fantasy had was the main and one mining expo at 10 o'clock. It was very close.
The problem was fantasy literally had one group of four vultures kill like 40 drones running between 6 o'clock to 8 o'clock over and over again. Two sunks at each expo would easily have stopped them. Zero just wasn't paying attention, and trying to use mass lings vs vults.

Not to mention that the vultures actually killed the hatcheries. Despite the fact that vults deal like 5 damage a shot to buildings. Zero really needed to send something, anything, to keep those alive. 1 sunk would work wonders

Fantasy should of stuck with M&M, but he needs to split his groups better. In a 2-base timing attack sometimes Terran players send out their whole army to attack an expansion (see skyhigh vs action) that's not necessary. If a Terran is going to attack with most of their units, they should target the main.

It sucks to be Zero right now. He has been playing such amazing starcraft. All of his games are entertaining. Yet he keeps meeting strong players and lose almost all of his matches that count the most, despite his amazing plays.

With the Flash late game TvZ strat, even players with horrible m&m control and macro can still win. Had Fantasy not seen the strat, the game would easily gone to Zero. I can't wait to see how Jaedong attempts to counters this strategy in the MSL finals.
