They claimed that the premium live stream would be in HD when it wasnt even close to HD. I wonder if they upgraded the quality of the normal stream back to its original state before premium existed. | ||

Yeah, under those conditions it should look exactly like starcraft does in-game. good enough for me. Here's the problem: Starcraft uses 8-bit color. If they broadcast this in 8-bit color, that'll be 8 bits per pixel. 640x480 pixels = 307200 pixels per frame, making each frame a size of 300 kB. Video generally runs at 30 frames per second. Average game length is about 15 minutes, so each game would consist of 27000 frames, each at 300 kB, making the uncompressed video file somewhere around 7.72 GB. If they use a larger color space, it'll be more, longer games will be larger, obviously, and this is just the video, this isn't even including audio. Lossy codecs can get that down to several MB, around a thousand times less space. It's just impractical to download uncompressed videos at *any* resolution, since 640x480 isn't particularly high. | ||

If it was USD$20, I would've signed up without hesitation. I don't actually care about being able to download HQVODs, I just want the premium stream without lag or drops. USD$50 is like CAN$60 for 1 night of TV a week. | ||
