Stork
Your first win in the Ro8…thoughts after a miraculous comeback? -The game was very hard…luckily I was able to get a win. To be honest, because the third map is Tears of the Moon, I was going to give up if I lost this game…
You were behind since the start, in a very bad position. -Jaedong scouted my 1-gate opening very early, so he started his Gas early. Because the opening of the natural is very wide on this map, I was afraid of a Mutalisk + Zergling push, so I made a lot of Cannons…And also made a lot of mistakes, such as forgettingn to upgrade +1 Air Attack. I was very afraid of an early push/rush, so I was kind of scared and nervous…
You saved up a massive army and made a comeback. -I realized early on that there won’t be a Timing opportunity for me, so I brought my army and planned to start an expansion at 9 o’clock, and happened to meet my opponent’s Hydralisks. Luckily I had an advantage and was able to kill off a large part of my opponent’s army. After that , we were even. So then, I did a Timing attack when my opponent was starting up the 1 o’clock expansion, took it down, and knew I won the game then.
It’s been a while since a display of brilliant Shuttle play. -I use it a lot in practice, but compared to other players who use Shuttles to achieve brilliant harassment, I’m still very weak. This isn’t my strong point…Jaedong is a very good player, with a great reaction speed, it was only because of today’s situations that I was forced to use Shuttle harassment.
When you could’ve finished the game, you were hesitant. -It’s true…because I only had Archons and Zealots, got plagued, and didn’t have high upgrades, and my opponent had a lot of Lurkers and Dark Swarm…so I wasn’t very confident attacking. In those conditions, I chose to play it safe.
How did you practice for this game? -Jangbi helped me practice. I asked him a lot of questions, and he watched me play a lot. I had a lot of practice.
There are two games next week. If you don’t want to play on Tears of the Moon, you need to win 2-0. -Sin Chupung-Ryeong isn’t an easy map either…I have a lot of painful memories on that map, and my record isn’t good…I think that if I lose on Chupung-Ryeong, I won’t be able to make the Ro4. So I need to overcome it…Even though I will prepare for Tears of the Moon also, I plan on devoting most of my time on Chupung-Ryeong.
You haven’t done great at recent Winner’s League matches. -I should do better at Winner’s League…I’m letting my team down…I know too that there’s a lot I need to work on, so I’m reflecting on that. Because of the Winner’s League format, preparing and practicing is difficult. You don’t know who the next player is, and you don’t know what maps you’re playing…and, in addition to that, individual leagues means that practice time isn’t optimal…so…
Right now, you’re 8-8 against Jaedong. -Before this, I thought I was ahead. But then I saw the records, and realized that I needed tow in today’s game to draw with him. The map, plus the opponent was Jaedong who just defeated Bisu in a Bo5…I was worried that it was going to become 7-10. But now that we’re even, I have a desire to surpass him…
There’s MSL Ro8 games tomorrow. -It’s against Terran, so I’m not that worried…I know that ForGG will be preparing hard, but I want to go up against Jangbi, something that hasn’t happened in a long time, so I’ll be working hard to win tomorrow. I’m confident I can win.
You’re the defending champion. Thoughts about maybe getting 2 wins in a row? -If I win against Jaedong, I hope I meet Hwasin in the Ro4. On the hellish maps this season, against a fierce hero, I don’t think I’ll be able to beat him in a Bo5…Only if I meet a Terran in the Ro4 can I get into the finals and get 2 championships in a row…but if I meet a Zerg, it’s impossible to tell. Tears of the Moon isn’t bad because of the two exits, but because there just aren’t enough minerals…traditionally a nightmare for Protoss…
Last thoughts? -I’m very thankful for teammates who helped me prepare. I promised them that if I enter the Ro4 in both leagues, I will take them out for a huge feast. I hope they’ll continue to help me.

That's interesting that he feels the minerals are what kills Protoss on tears of the Moon. I think that map has 7 minerals and most other maps have 9? Shouldn't 8 be a good compromise?
Thanks for the interview, he's still confident in his PvT.

Tears of the Toss, what a shitty map =(

Pretty depressing for a "winner" interview.

Why does he hope to meet Jangbi, I think atm Jangbi is better than he is. There will be some ggs though.

Well it is only game 1, there are two more left...you never see progamers feel happy in the middle of a series for a winning a game. This is just a series, albeit drawn out.

Woah. He bitched about the maps like Bisu did =D Here's hoping that JD shapes up and does his usual 0-1 comeback.

I guess there must be reason for protoss to complain about the maps when two of the top protoss are stating bluntly the difficulty of the maps this season.

Yeah, I guess it's just fortunate that they're so much better than their peers of other races that they still manage to make the racial distribution for the starleagues even.
Tears of the Moon is a terrible PvZ map but I think Stork just personally dislikes Chupung-Ryeong.

It's not about being unhappy, but just such a pessimistic outlook of the future. He already chalked up TotM as an auto-loss. And he seems pretty depressed that the other map is Sin Chepungyong. Plus he basically showed no confidence against zerg in a Bo5 with this map pool.
That said, considering Jaedong got screwed by Byzantium last season, I guess it's only fitting he gets a zerg map this year. Still, why can't map makers make "balanced" maps rather than decidedly one-sided ones?

Nice translation. Hmm, do you plan to translate this?

Stork's guarded about his chances - fair enough, I hope that attitude allows him to go into the games trying hard and pulling in good results. Hoping for an upset 2:0 over Jaedong personally - maps be damned.

I mentioned this at the end of the LR...Return of the King is now 9-1 PvZ this OSL (though admittedly it was 0-5 last OSL). For whatever that's worth.

Most likely; currently on someone else's computer though, seeing as mine broke, so translating stuff like that might be put on hold.

Pointing out map Imba against Jaedong is pointless because he didn't thumb down the map.
|
Ah Stork, you and your "I'll give up if I lost the first game" antics.
If it gets to ToTM, I am going to expect a cheese from Stork. He'll probably think that "that's the only way to defeat Jaedong in such a map." But even then, Jaedong's anti-cheese is very good.

nice interview thanks, though not a very good choice of picture or not a good shot of Stork there..

from this interview i can say with confidence that stork will return to top form pretty soon
he struggles with complacency, that's his only problem

Is it just to me that Stork sounds so vulnerable? He had thought about giving up a bo3 if he lost the first one; he's afraid of his opponent who beat Bisu in a bo5 (actually he's 7-8 against JD, not that bad man!); he had no confidence to beat a zerg in bo5 who he cracked down 2 years ago; he blamed map IMBA; he's not got used to WL format.
Basically he responded to most questions in a negative manner except his PvT against ForGG. What the....I mean I've never seen any champion like this in any other professional sports.
-edit And it's weird I still love this guy :O

Hahah, I have to agree, this is one of the more unconventional interviews I've read. Most are so formulaic. It sounds this interview was conducted during last call at a korean bar. Storks just spilling out everything that sucks.

Poll: More honest in interviews? (Vote): Stork (Vote): Bisu

LOL This is why I love Stork. First, the picture TOTALLY matches Stork's responses. It's just plain hilarious. He looks dumbfounded. And then he's like, erm I was gonna give up if I lost. Um, I hope I win the next one lulz? Hahaha add to this the fact that he's the reigning champion and it just gets even funnier. God I love Song Byung Gu

stork has really low self-esteem, bisu even said this was his weakness in their joint super interview.
btw 8-8, huh? tlpd only has 4-5, and i guess WCG accounts for 2-1. anyone know what the other four games were from?

Man everytime I vote against Stork in LB, he wins.Looks like Ill have to sacrifice my LB rank to let him get 2nd OSL. this sux! but I still love Storky.

Stork may be a better PvP than Jangbi. Stork did well against Bisu in PvP finals even though he lost 2-3. He beat Best pretty badly, who once had the highest PvP wins.
Great interview. It was insightful and the reader learns from it.

I don't think it is low self-esteem. Stork knows the truth. Jaedong is a monster at ZvP. Even I saw how Jaedong handed Stork the game with that 1 major mistake in micro or multitasking. Others might not say what they really mean, but at least Stork does.

It sounds more like Stork just remembers his losses more than his wins, not that hes necessarily got low self-esteem. With his history its kinda understandable, always a fun player to follow.

God, I love Stork so much.
Thanks for the interview! I hope, though it's unlikely, that Stork somehow wins 2-1.

Stork's not only done well, he's beaten Bisu in a BoX. Incruit OSL he all-killed SKT.

I agree, Stork all-kills when the stakes are highest.

The 2 games against Jangbi and Jaedong 2 days in a row determine his season. Its make or break for Stork. He had not looked good against this 2 opponents in the past. Against Jaedong i would be surprised he went through, Chupung ryeong and ToTm are terrible maps for pvz.
|
surprising that stork is afraid of hero..
i would think if he could get past JD hero would be scrubby
|
Baa?21242 Posts
To be fair, everyone has reason to be afraid of hero these days, kid's been playing like a beast.
Think July, with even better mechanics, plus good vT (maybe slightly early to call, but his recent games against the likes of Leta and Hwasin have been superb). Who wouldn't be scared?
I personally wouldn't be surprised if hero becomes a royal roader.
edit: changed sig to reflect that

Stork seems to be such a nice person....
|
Huh, he has to play Jaedong tomorrow and JangBi one day later. I hope he qualifies for both, but I think there's a big chance that he will get eliminated from both leagues:-(
Btw, when was the last time somebody qualified in both OSL and MSL semifinals? As long as I remember it was Bisu when he lost to Mind and to Stork.
