It looks like Backho will not recover in time to participate in the OSL round of 16. A tournament will be held to determine who will take his place.
It looks like the #2 finishers in each of the 12 groups in the round of 36 will fight it out for this one spot: Sea[shield], TheZerg, Sea.FireFist, much[gm], Midas[gm], maGma[S.G], InteR.Mind, Bisu, TheRock, YoonJoong, MuJuK and #2 from group L (one of Jaedong, Tazza, Light[Alive])
Update: According to scforall.com, more details will be announced on 11/23, after Group L finishes.
Also, Bisu is above all those people who finished #2 so I think he has an amazing chance to win. Remember when Nal_rA left the MSL and Stork won the wild-card and made it into the finals against Bisu in GOMTV Season II

Everyone thought Bisu's chances of dropping were below 1% as well. =P AND Jaedong has to play consecutive BO3 sets to win.
I am strongly reminded of the msl when Oversky had to drop due to the draft, and Stork, though eliminated by Savior, was given a 2nd chance to enter the tournament. He did and went all the way through to the finals, where he had an INTENSE msl final with Bisu, losing 2-3.

Hope Backho gets better :X. He must be pissed to drop out.
If Zergs continue to step it up this season, I hope Bisu advances. But if the leagues become PPPP semi final fests again, I hope he doesnt make it. Hoping Firefist makes it through, but I doubt it cause he blows

Not sure, but OGN said they'll give him a spot at next RO36 (??)
I like how this thread is more about celebrating that people's favorite players will get another chance into the OSL and very little concern for the fact that Backho is forced with an unfortunate situation of dropping out.

I'm a bit sad about BackHo actaully. He trained so hard to get this far in the OSL and in the GOM. Sadly he had to forfeit both series. I hope he'll manage to get back on his feet, his play is quite entertaining.
I'm not going to hide my enthusiam that Bisu will get a second chance for this OSL. Maybe he'll get his game where it was a couple of months ago. Or better, he all zergs are eliminated before he's forced to play them.
Guess progamers shouldn't use names with body parts in them. Poor guy.
If Bisu comes back and wins the whole thing, I wonder how deserving he would be (not that I mind!). Or maybe this was planned...how does someone make it into the RO8 in GOM and RO16 in the OSL and then "mysteriously" take a several month hiatus due to back injury? Bisu what have you REALLY been doing instead of preparing against zergs?

Well who cares about backho? The guy obviously REALLY didnt wanna play this OSL, first he tried his Zizi yo strategy to get out of it, when that failed he threw himself down some stairs or whatever it was he did to injure his back.
On a side note stork almost stole an MSL in the same way, after savior had eliminated him.

and Bisu will win this OSL ez
I know this is meant to be a joke (I hope to god) But this is one of the most retarded things I've ever read.

theres not too much to add about Backho imo, and there are solid players ready to kill someone for that spot.

Yeah I feel pretty bad for Backho. A lot of people think he's a really terrible player but I don't think that's the case. I think he's much better than Rock. He has a pretty good PvP, and is a pretty creative player in terms of using good proxy builds. His PvT and PvZ are not the best, but I've always enjoyed watching him play.

Lighten up, its not like the man is dead. Forfeits because of injuries happens in every other sport, whats the big deal if a BW player have to take some time off from an injury?
IMO the format will probably be three groups of four, single elimination. The 2-0 winner from each group plays in a OSL tiebreaker format until one of the three of them goes 2-0.
objectivly Firefist should have gotten it since the only reason he didn't get into the round of 16 instead of Backho was he took the moral high ground when Backho GGed early. So he legitimatly made the Ro 16 (even if it was just a fluke), and is going to have to play a tournement he will likely lose for a spot that is legitimatly his.
Maybe I should edit the first post, but I re-read wfbrood again, and it seems that the info about a 12 man tournament is not confirmed. They mention it is probably going to be the case, but details will be announced on 1/23.

That was game two, and backho was not only up 1-0, but raping him.
I doubt game 3 would have been any different.
....So by that logic Backho would forfeit game 3 the same way. I guess I'm with you on that one. Zizi yO

It would be unfair to the others if they choose 1 player ... I would be happy to see Anytime as the wild card thought since ACE didn't get to participate .
Most unfortunate circumstances for BackHo, having two drop two leagues deep in. Let's just hope he comes back with a vengeance. I know he's not the most loved player, but I enjoy his personality and play.
Here's to hoping Sea/Mind/Bisu makes it in to replace him.

no, rock won't early carrier his way into this spot this time.
I'd like Much to qualify, but I guess he is out of shape and it is a long shot. I hope Bisu fails and learns that karma is a bitch. I for one would like to see Sea to go somewhere around RO4 in a SL so he can break his jinx, Mind would make it interesting also, and well, I've always liked Midas, but he is doing so poorly that I really don't have hopes for him.
On second thought, Firefist deserves a chance. He is not that good, but he showed some honesty and sportsmanship against BackHo. That should count for something.

Bisu's chances never changed its all the doing of the starcraft gods pulling mind tricks on us. KTY hwaiting
I really want to see Mind take this spot this is just the rebound he needs after getting beaten by free in gom, hes playing very well lately and deserves a league spot. Bisu however is not playing well and is dropping games all over to players he has no business losing to.

People realized that he's not actually a great player all of the time, and haters realized he doesn't suck all of a time.
zizi yO
He's basically a very very standard player with decent mechanics. this lets him sneak past every single group stage with standard play, and then as soon as someone prepares for him (aka prepares on the map for a game against a standard protoss) he loses. 44% win percentage all time, and he's played in 14 leagues.
On January 23 2009 09:31 cgrinker wrote: Wow I thought that we all hated backho, what happened?
He got hurt then we made this. And he killed Stork.
But my gosh, what if the person who qualifies through this method wins the entire thing? That would be the Cinderella story of all Cinderella stories.
Well Casys road to the Shinhan1 OSL victory was pretty sick too. First tiebreakers in his group, then losing the wildcard match vs Iris, and then making it through the wildcard-loser group only to win it all.

I feel that Sea would just squander his spot and Much will play blandly in all his match-ups. Bisu on the other hand, has a lot to show in PvT and PvP. The only thing to worry about is PvZ
On January 23 2009 12:24 iCCup.Trent wrote: jd will take his place.
It's kind of silly to say that before JD's group plays. IMO, JD is the favorite to win his group, so he probably won't have to go through the wildcard tournament. Even though Bisu is on my fantasy OSL team, I'm really hoping for Mind to pull through
Fuck yeah. I mean I am not happy for poor Backho, but Bisu has another chance to win the OSL,and become bonjwa. Just pull your shit together please Bisu and do not fail us,your fans again. I beg you. But I am really terrible sorry about Backho. Poor kid. But I just can't hide my enthusiasm that Bisu has another chance. I wish that chance wouldn't have been given to him like this.
why does every 2nd place-r get a shot at this spot? i don't see how that is fair, shouldn't firefist/whoever the other guy was just play for the spot?
i don't understand how players from other groups have as much claim to the abandoned spot as the players in backho's ro32 group do
IMO it should just be that the person who came in 2nd in the ro32 group is the alternate should the winner not be able to attend, this playoff stuff is just madness

Haha, you know what would be absolutely hilarious? If Rock takes out Bisu in the final game and grabs the last slot for ro16, just to crash out in the first series. I'm sorry, my humor is indeed that messed up

The only question is if Jaedong will be able to qualify today. Because if we will have again Bisu - Jaedong game for qualification, I don't like Bisu chances.
i don't trust bisu's PvZ but damnnn goooooo bisu if backho secures a spot in ro36 next season, does that mean bisu will go to qualifiers even if he gets gold :o
