Support BackHo here!
BackHo (손찬웅), Protoss Player for Lecaf OZ is unable to play due to an injury in his back.
The injury was caused by an accident during the Christmas period. He was rushed to the hospital where doctors reported that he slipped two disks in his back.
Due to this injury, he is physically incapable of playing Starcraft until his back is healed.
His last notable matches was his Round of 36 match against FireFist where he infamously typed in 'zizi yO' while winning a game. He also eliminated one of the six dragons in Stork (송병구) from the GOMTV TG-Sambo Intel Classic Season 2 to advance to the Round of 8.
The Lecaf coach, Cho Jung Woong (조정웅) has stated that for his health and the wishes of his family, he should not be playing. As evidence of his injury, X-Rays of BackHo's spine were shown to the GOM audience (where it clearly showed two broken disks). As a consequence, BackHo has forfeited his quarter-final games against JangBi (허영무). JangBi will automatically advance to the semi-final to face either Free (윤용태) or Mind (박성균).
BackHo has just received surgery for these disks and is expected to return in one to four months depending on how well the back heals.

Wow, this is really bad news. This kind of injury doesn't happen overnight. He must have been feeling very uncomfortable for some time now. Maybe he should've taken a break to heal before it went critical. Anyways, wish zizi yO good luck and get well soon.

It does if you work out with poor technique or get in a car accident or something. I don't know how he got injured, but somehow I doubt it was from his gaming-posture.

Sadface. I'm not a very big fan of Backho, but I don't dislike him either. Sad to hear and hope he can get back into playing as soon as he's well. =(

seeing the thread title, my 1st reaction was he hurt his fingers doing push ups.
no backho is a big loss for lecaf. also, isnt his gomtv semi-finals today? sucks, he beat some A to S class players to get there.

Hope he recovers soon. Although I might not like his style of play, he certainly does not deserve dropping out of a tourney due to an injury, and it is a serious one too.

@ Bobilion: there is no Z sound in Korean, and I think the z key on a keyboard corresponds to the 'j' sounding character. So saying zizi is like saying jiji = geegee, the phonetic of GG. Yo is a respectful ending.
Poor Backho, I was really looking forward to watching him play Jangbi, sucks. I hope he gets better soon though.
I bet inter.young pushed him down some stairs at the practice house or something, so he gets the protoss spot.

I'd been wondering why he didn't come to proleague for the last 2 weeks - he usually comes even if he hasn't got a game. I'm very glad our last photo shoot was done sitting down and I really hope he has a swift and settled recovery - he's one of the nicest, most cheerful young gamers I've met since I began doing photos for esports and today was a real shame both for him and the event itself.

That's not viable, as his condition doesn't seem to be one that can be dealt with within a few days. GomTV has had its schedule planned out for a long time. Semis should be Sunday next week and the week after.
It was very different with the GGPlay vs Silent_Control incident. If I remeber it correctly it was during OSL group stages? It's much easier to just play that 1 game a little later during several weeks of OSL group stages than when you need to determine pretty much asap who advances to a semi-final.

That's sad news. I was actually really looking forward to his games against JangBi. I'm not a huge fan of him but I like to watch his games against S-class players. They are always entertaining (even if they are rapes).

BackHo seems pretty cool and i was expecting him to take out jangbi  . thats pretty unfortunate though with such a bad injury. personally who cares if he takes an extra month off from what's expected to be sure he recovers well and is able to do things like normal (or as normal as possible)

The term "broken disk" is probably just a loose translation or an incorrect description of the injury.
A spinal disc herniation (prolapsus disci intervertebralis), incorrectly called a "slipped disc", is a medical condition affecting the spine, in which a tear in the outer, fibrous ring (annulus fibrosus) of an intervertebral disc (discus intervertebralis) allows the soft, central portion (nucleus pulposus) to bulge out.

Backho is now back at events - I missed him due to thinking he was coming back in April (on Sunday.) so I'll be giving the card to him at the next available event - probably in April now (dammit.)
