Philosophy here falls under the either/or category - you can choose to study it in depth academically and write a thesis, but some people definitely do it to take the easy classes and get a painless BA. I dunno which path Nony took, but he's an athlete (both e- and real), and either way he's obviously worked very hard. At any rate, the who system at Duke is based on the liberal arts mantra that you go to college to learn how to think rather than learn a particular field in depth (unless you're an engineer or pre-med). Also for the record, we have a pretty large international Korean population here, but the majority of them keep to themselves and plan on returning to Korea after graduation. It's pretty interesting how American education became integrated as an accelerated component of the Korean system more so than a means of finding international opportunities. | ||
