You probably don't know this (I didn't know until last week), but you can download a LEGAL, FULL copy of the starcraft anthology by just creating a "blizzard account" and registering your Starcraft CD-Key into their site.
Here is how you do it
1. Go to http://blizzard.com/account
2. Click "Create Account"
Select your country, accept the terms, and fill out all the required information.
3. Click the activation link in your registration email
This is required before you can download and install SC, so do it now.
4. Add games (the important part) - click here:
5. Click "Add new Game" and put in your original SC cd-key
6. Download the installer (1.2gb, it takes a while)
7. Most important: the CD-key to install the DOWNLOAD VERSION is different than your normal CD-key. Find it from the "games" page in your blizzard account. You have to click the link to show the 26-character key
Please keep this thread free of comments like I already knew this, old news because it's not very well known throughout the community that you can do this. PM me if you have any questions on this process.

awesome. Now time to go find my original cd key. This should be easier than installing virtual drive software, then installing sc bw, then patching.

I guess you can play all the downloaded versions without CD? Because I'm still using my D2 CD to play which kinda sucks.

Ya, downloaded versions are all NO CD as far as I know. Never tried D2 but it would be silly of them to make it require CD since the newest patches can be run without CD legally(if you do a full install and some other steps).

Great guide pheer thanks man. This comes in handy even if you havent lost your CD key, if you ever need to install on another computer you can just do it from Blizzards website. I registered all my games with them.

yeah there was, from patch 1.15.2. The download from Blizzard Store allows you to install the game without CDs

i installed this on a friends computer but its asking me to put in my CD to play everytime i run it. is this supposed to happen? was hoping the 1.2gbs wouldnt require the CD

not sure what you mean. You can either register your cd key from your cd case and then download the game (they will give you a brand new 13-digit cd key that is synonymous with your current cd key). Or you can pay $15 for a brand new 13-digit cd key and then download the game.

Been using this for quite a while now and had to download it more than once after formatting my drive.
Something I noticed for people who say it's a very slow download..
If you disable peer-to-peer (Click View ---> preferences ---> uncheck "Enable peer to peer transfer") it seems to extremely speed up the process. For me instead of it being like a normal torrent I was connected to a single peer that was listed as "http direct download" on the torrent client.
I think just unlike the WoW patches and such the http client isnt overloaded for bandwidth so it really increases speeds.
Downloaded mine last time around 600kb/s using this method, can't guarantee it will work the same for everyone but it takes like 5 seconds, doesn't hurt to try.

Ah yea this is how i've played for a while because my CD broke. The only annoying this is i've been unable to discover a way that will allow me to backwards patch sc so I can watch replays from previous patches (like all the TSL replays.) When I tried it fucked it up and i had to delete it and re-dl all the bw game files again.

I don't think that very many people at a time are trying to get scbw, as opposed to the bajillion people that are probably trying to get the wow patches

This would be quite useful if you were trying to convince someone to buy the game. Now it only costs 10 dollars, legally.

it keeps saying that I need a cd to play in the installer. i tried putting cd in and then starting, but when I restarted, you still need the cd. Can anyone help me fix this problem?

Why don't people just buy the battlechest, only 20 bucks. Unless you are really committed to saving money, I don't see why people would go through all this trouble just spend 20 bucks and get a copy.

Did you even read the OP? The instructions are on how to DL the game if you have a legitimate CD key (so presumably, a copy of the game), but need a download copy for some reason or another (e.g. you lost your disks).

Hmm, my cd key works online, but when I install, it asks for a 26 digit key. Mine is 13?? wat?
