I recieved a PM a few moments ago about a post I made on the 'How to find a good low level clan to play with' thread, about starting a clan. And after some thought I guess we could make it happen if we have some interest.
I use the term 'clan' very loosely.
I reckon it would be really usefull to run the clan like a training clinic. A place for people to come, play some games, get some practice and help train each other. With regular and varied meeting times. We can also invite some of the 'better players' IF ANY are willing, to come in for a couple of hours every week, maybe every 2 weeks, to run some sort of 'battle camp', offering expert play tips, maybe look at a few peoples replays and take them through some ways of becoming better.
For this to be any kind of success in the way I envision it, the clan will have to be completely open. So anyone with a strong will to improve their game can come along, have a friendly chat about their play, get some tips and get some practise done.
This would also make for a more varied playing field, so players will have Terran, Zerg AND Protoss players to practice with, rather than pot luck when creating/joining a normal game.
For instance, I personally have a problem with mass mined vulture rushes, so it would be good for me to play vs T till I can get a grip of it. Im sure other people have things that they have trouble with and this would make the perfect place to learn how to overcome these problems.

Art is huge but it was mostly on hamachi...
I think it would be better to have one in US WEST, we could maybe fuse this with Hi.Team...
They have a lot of active players and stuff.. and rA- just died so I need people to hang out with =)

Sounds good infested, yes, although hamachi is good, unless you pay a fee, your limited to a number of players, which is not good. Our meeting places will probably be on USWEST, since most people are there already.
This is still really just an idea, the finer points still need attention, but im sure it will all fall into place.
But yes, are you in contact with Hi.Team? Feel free to find out if they are willing to take part in any way.
Ive already had some interest on MSN, so its lookin good so far!

I'm interested for sure. The ability to know your opponant and talk after the game are things that you can't get playing random people on ICC. These are benefits that the clan would have even if you didn't have the training aspect of having stronger players.
Please count me in if you ever work something out.

Ok folks, this is looking good.
Ive had in the region of about 15-20 players interest so far between the thread and MSN, so its lookin good for the green light.
Im starting to think about and work on the infastructure now, so i'll keep you informed when everything is ready to go. There are still some things I need to work out.

This is something im thinkin about, Infested.
I dont like the idea of ranks etc. "We are all equally worthless!" :-)
My aim is just to create an organised, friendly place to learn from other players.
Of course, I dont see a way around having leaders, but they will be more in the role of 'Peace Keeping' making sure things dont get out of hand on forums/channels etc.
The members will be the main focus, they will make the clan what it will be. The more participation there is from members, the better it will be for all concerned. Afterall, you cant learn from other players... if there are NO other players. :-)
Although the leaders can help org meetings/competitions etc etc.
I dont think im even that concered about a tag tbh. I dont see a problem with people joining other clans unless we decide to org a team to become competative on a larger scale than internal competitions. Even if other clan members decide to take part, they will bring knowledge and tips/tricks etc to THIS clan, and perhaps even leave having learnt a thing or two.
Does that make sense?
Coaches are something im interested in, but for that, we need some higher level player participation. Im not expecting some gosu guy to rock up and start training people 24/7. But if we can perhaps get a 'good' player to come now and then, hold some sort of 'Starcraft Surgery', answer peoples questions on strats etc, perhaps take a look at a few replays and critique them. Perhaps give some tips on how to improve from the replays and generally help out. If we could make that happen, that would be monumentally awesome.
Does that make sense? Sound reasonable?

EDIT: About the coaches part.. I know most of the things I mentioned here can be covered in the TL forums and often are. Im talkin about a more 121 thing, ive read strats and stuff like that, but there is only so much you can learn that way. If you can acutally have someone, waching a replay game, on vent or even typing in game, you can learn SO much more. Even taking someone into a game and actually SHOWING them stuff against a comp is ALOT more usefull.

EDIT: I only have one friend I actually practice low-money with as of right now, and we don't play too often so this would be great, and like someone said it is boring as hell watching your replays alone, without other people giving feedback.

Starting up a channel at a set date would be a good start, to confirm everyone in an easy way. Everyone could make their clan accounts there and then have the list posted in this thread. Anyone else who wants to join following that can just msg the OP or post here I guess. But apparently the OP is sleeping so we will have to wait to see how he wants to go about This. low-level to me got me thinking of anyone from [D-] to [C-], no offense to anyone in that range, b/c I am in there as well.

Make an IRC channel. People can join and setup games on Iccup / Hamachi / Bnet. I rarely get on Bnet for games anymore unless meeting people so an in-game channel is worthless.

Thanks to those who setup a channel to chat in. Initiative, I like it.
I promise we WILL get official channels etc setup asap, but by NO means does this mean you cant setup your own for your particular purpose. Infact, I encourage it, as long as you remember to interact with the official channels or it will just end up little groups of people all over the place and that will totally destroy the point in this clan :-)

I agree. Merge with clan.art and get it on irc.
Clan art is an initiative much like this one -- to get low level players play with each other in a semi-protected invironment. It would be foolish not to merge.
I was even thinking: if the games were played on Iccup, with special accounts made for this clan, people can easily see who is the better, and who is the worse. The goal for this clan is to get even skilled players play each other. So people should use the ID only to play amongst fellow clan members, not outside of the clan. That way we wouldnt have to invent ranks, but iccup will do it for us.

IRC is good. I also think we should be on iccup, using special accounts etc., all those ideas are good, as well as the fact that we could have an 'official' team through iccup.

IRC or Ventrillo is definitely superior to a channel on B.net. I only keep SC open when I'm looking to play, but I have IRC open almost all the time.

yeah i usually get on once I get home @ 6 or 7 (3 or 4 on the west coast, so i understand). But then I check again at like 10 or 11 (which is 7 or 8 on the west coast) when there should be people on, but there's only like 1, maybe 2, and they're AFK. And of course the IRC channel is always empty.
There was talk of merging with some other clan Hi.team, but I went in there looking for a game and all I got was bm spam and people refusing to play on lan latency. Sad state of affairs

Sometimes people want to play without the pressure of the ICCup ladder, and be able to practice and use all the features of chaos launcher and advLoader (well, just chaos since the patch), so that's what this thread was for. And I personally get better ping to the west coast than I do to the Abyss server, so I actually can game better on West. So some consistent players to practice with would be nice.

I feel like mass gaming soo If anyone else wants to mass game and play XvT (me T) Artosis style (decide build orders before, and play them over and over to get better) then PM me and we'll set up a time, or in about 30 minutes we can start, please want to play atleast 3-5 games or more. I'm D+ / C- depending on MU.
Anyone else that feels like doing the same or if more than 1 or two people want to we can just host a hamachi server and play eachother all night, and hopefully again, and we can exchange AIMS, irc channel, etc. So gogo, PM or post~

True, I got it backwards. Even so, ending at 4 pm Eastern/1pm Pacific pretty much cuts out anyone who has school, or has a standard work day (8-4/9-5 ish).

I think I played about 10 to 15 games today. The channel is active in a way that most people who aren't afk are willing to play.
Also, I think vent would be quite useful as when people game in the channel and someone else comes in, he or she can see what people are on. It's hard to /whois everyone that you can think of.
QUICKIE if you can, can you set the bot up so it will tell anyone who asks to find which people have been to this channel and is gaming.

I wouldn't expect people to be on right now. I suggest getting on around 8pm - 11pm PST, as that is when most people are done with work/school/etc. and will be online to play.

Canada spans the same time zones as U.S. (unless you live way out east in Atlantic time or something), so the U.S. times should work for people in Canada as well.

SeeD(bot) is stealthbot* that greets newcomers and encourages to use .allseen command that checks last 15 people who have been in channel.

Since there are 2 channels used now and I heard that op seedclan has it's own bot I think it will be a rather good idea to keep both channels since some people like me are used to op seedling one more.

Hmm the last few times I've been to op seedling I haven't seen anyone while Op Seedclan is quite active (6 active).
Are you sure that having two different channels is a good idea? I do think stealthbot is an excellent program though; I don't want to tab in every minute to check for something. The best program is ventrilo if anyone has a server he or she want to share.

I like that you brought up keeping Op Seedling, but the only reason why I changed to Op SeedClan is because whoever "seedling" is, is not on. I just decided to make it more organized by having a bot and giving members command. The clan stays neat, organized and well mannered. (When I say clan, I really mean the players that come & go) Anyways, EVERYONE is getting confused, its a coincidence because I've been looking for someone with a bot (And I forgot I'm the one who told you about stealthbot .. hehe). Please bring op seedling to op seedclan as it has been growing very largely and quickly.
I see you on op seedling right now. I was also thinking that if I do not hear the person who started all this to reply or become active, I may be thinking of taking lead of this. Although that's in a month or so. I cannot run something like this by my own. For I'm going to need some leaders to help me keep organized and a forum which I can moderate.

OK 1st of all tbh clan stuff is only to show in some way how much are you into this, how often do you visit this channel
You will added as member even if you won't tag yourself ;P but it would be very nice to do so
What's more important are commands you can use - this bot is very very useful. The only barrier to use them is to be set as member.
Remember!! The trigger to use commands is . (dot) NOT `.
` was trigger of SeeDClan bot but it seems Quick disabled its commands because mine is much more often in the channel.
You don't have to be member to use .allseen
When you are set as member type .mycmds to see what commands you can use for example .pingme to obv ping yourself or .rank nickname to check someones rank.
edit: forgot about BIG KUDOS to Seed.Rainbow (aka Area) that made this bot work as it should. He even manually re-added all members as last resort solution for fixing problems.
