Sat down to watch the show matches for the Spirit Tournament Kal vs. Iefnaij and found to my surprise Daniel Lee was a guest commentating with Artosis for both games. Daniel was a real hoot... + Show Spoiler +especially the moment when Kal manner pylonned Iefnaij 3 times.

I really enjoyed his commentary as well. As for those that think his comments were too mean, I think they were definitely meant in a light hearted manner.

Wow Daniel Lee is great. All his videos are always funny as hell. He really is the perfect man to bring korea and the rest of the world together in e-sports.
I do think we have reached a peak in the foreign commentating area with tasteless + artosis and I love them both, but it was really a breath of fresh air with someone who is brutally honest and also points out when someone is playing like an idiot :D

Daniel Lee was kind of obnoxious it seemed, butting in and interrupting Tasteless a lot, but for the most part I thought it was worth it, that what he had to say usually was worth hearing. I liked his comments on what the foreigner should be doing, they were very insiteful. With a little more practice/training Daniel Lee will be a very good English commentator imo.

That was awesome! I wasn't the biggest fan of the interviews Daniel Lee did, but his commentary was absolutely fantastic. Artosis is trying to butter everything up and tell everyone how spectacular it is and Lee is just like "AHHH, WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU FOOL?!" It was really nice too, because he knew exactly what he was talking about (obviously thanks to extensive experience) and really pin pointed the shifts in advantage as mistakes rather than plain misfortune (which Artosis liked to claim). Not to say I don't love Artosis' commentary too, but Daniel Lee telling Nony to move back his dragoons, and then Artosis saying how unfortunate it was they all got raped 5 seconds later was great. Hopefully our boys Tasteless and Artosis get better at pin pointing these shifts in their commentary, which will make things more insightful (although they're both moderately skillful in detecting them, it's obvious Korean commentating is on another level in that respect).

I'm glad Daniel Lee joined in. I think future commentaries would benefit from his insight. If players are playing like dogs, he should explain just how dog-like they are. I really enjoyed hearing where the mistakes were.

Artosis still does this massive emphasizing of words, every 2nd or 3rd word he does it and it causes his voice to go like up n down n up n down it sounds horrible, I want to turn off the volume after about 15 minutes of listening just because he does it so much. He must really try and stop doing this, it's so annoying.
Sorry if it comes over harsh, but as a musician I just have to say that, it really hurts my ears.

Daniel's experience as head coach of a pro-team really adds weight to these commentaries. I really enjoyed these watching these and i hope in the future there will be more =D

Great videos. I love the little insights into the progamer's lives provided by Daniel. Artosis' commentary was great as usual. I like how he's so blunt (makes him funny) about the foreigners whilst being understanding that these aren't pro-gamers and it's just a Bo1.

Emphasizing is a must in commentating in my stupid opinion. I don't know why you don't like how it sounds but it makes it sound much better, keeps it not monotone and boring and keeps the viewers excited. I'm a musician so I don't understand where you're coming from. Barack Obama also emphasizes a lot of words? MLK? Good speech is emphasizing important words, and Artosis does not overdo it in the least imo. Btw, still trying to ask this question, is there any way I can download the VODs? Because I can't stream them here in China.

Daniel Lee's commentary was both insightful and humorous. Heh, I found myself laughing every time he went Heeeey!! when Artosis centred on JF's reaver building. I really liked it, he should do more commentaries.

I agree that he might be overdoing it in some instances, but that is just his own, unique style and I do not think he will stop it.
My only grief was that he was interrupting Daniel Lee's colour commentating at times to do his play-by-play when it was not really needed.

Artosis should be making more pauses to let the other commentar to share some thoughts (maybe questions what is his opinion). Especailly when the other commentator is Daniel Lee. He know his stuff but artosis kept blabbering all the time.
but it was good, pity that our players has been owned that easy.

I agree that emphasizing is a must in commentating. I just think he does it too much. There's a fine line between enjoyable and too much and I think Artosis crossed it. It takes experience to go back to a more enjoyable emphasizing technique so I don't think either that he'll change it. But I'd recommend it, because the way he does it right now it sounds like he's repeating the same 3 words over and over again even though he doesn't.

Those two are a great duo, the serious white guy and the crazy funny asian guy. 
I agree that Artosis should give coach Lee time to finish his sentences, both commentators knows their stuff for sure compared to other amateur commentators.

yeah apparently he went to school in America for quite a few years. His English isnt *perfect* probably because he doesn't speak it often. I doubt hes not heavily americanized and knows the language very well though, considering all his time in the country.

This is why koreans have such an advantage when playing Starcraft, they get to listen to people like Lee all the time.
He just added an incredible amount of insight, especially in JFs game.
If JF had Lee sat next to him in that game he would've stood a much better chance.

I don't think July toying with him means disrespect. July and Kal are far better players and everyone, including JF and Nony knows that. It's not like July did anything to humiliate Nony. He was just willing to play a longer, more entertaining game.

Of course, July was READING OUR MINDS and knew that we would rather see him play around and drag a game out so we could watch him kill Nony's expansion yet again, because that's "more substance for the viewer." More entertaining, maybe, but "more substance" or letting Nony back into the game? As much as July dragged it out, he was very much keeping Nony from ever having a real shot at getting back into that game. July knows showmanship but he also knows how to put away a game.
As for the Kal triple manner pylon, don't see what's wrong with it if your opponent can't stop you from doing it. It's not like Kal did like proxy carriers or something absurd, I don't see what people are complaining about. It's a show match so he did something funny, I don't see how continuously doing manner pylons is somehow a hardcore win-at-all-costs strategy.
All things considered, Nony and JF did pretty okay. Obviously there's a long way to go for top foreigners to match up well against top Korean pro-gamers but at least there's hope.

i dont think july did anything special. i was playing sort of defensively so i dont see an opening for him to kill me much quicker. he got a HUGE econ advantage by 12hatching while i scouted him last, so the optimal plan is to play for a longer game so long as the protoss is playing normally/defensively. and he isnt going to do some amazing timing attack for such an unimportant game. he's gonna save his great stuff for his real matches. so he didnt do anything special in either direction

I think it goes both ways. One extreme is to toy with opponent and needlessly drag out games (disrespectful), the other extreme is exploit every weakness immediately and go for the fastest kill (a sign of respect or arrogance). Somewhere in the middle is best, and I think July was good in that sense. Its like this, July gave a chance for Nony to show his stuff, whereas Kal didn't. I don't really hate Kal for it though - he just took the game seriously.
Its like a beginner martial artists against a master. The master could end the fight in 1 blow or he could toy/humiliate the beginner. The best would be for the master to probe his student to study his strengths/weaknesses and help him improve; it will always be clear who is the superior fighter, but this way the student can learn more... thats why Daniel said he would have liked to see JF play without being triple manner pylon rushed.

LOL such a funny guy, and he really gets in depth to a more starcraft player friendly level. For example: He will talk about how JF is being aggressive by not taking his expo, and that he should be. Then he took his expo and Danny freaked out. Thats real shoutcasting!!
