wow no way? so he's joining the army as well i suppose -_-
ace will be a little better!
|
wow anytime, that sucks. I guess now that the newer lecaf generation can compete, non-fall Anytime isn't much use.
|
Reach AND Anytime join just as Boxer is about to leave?
|
Well that means despite the rumors ACE is not disbanding I guess? In other words, good news?
|
Thats crazy, ACE is a powerhouse...even if its just based off reputation alone. Before Boxer leaves, when they field Boxer, Reach, Anytime, Oversky, Daezang - crazy...
Btw, do the other ACE players such as Chrh, Rage etc. finish their military services soon, or are they actually staying in the military? I haven't heard much about them before.

Why is AnyTime joining now? He's only young compared to Reach and those
Seems he realises he aint good enough now for the progaming scene

I think he is joining the army too soon. He could have stalled for 3-4 more years but well, I guess he thought he is not going to recover from his slump anytime(no pun intended) soon. It's not that bad of a deal. I mean, you can get thru the mandatory army service, with almost 100% chances of being picked by ACE and by the time you come out, you still have plenty of possibilities at 23, even retaking your progaming career. If you got to the army at 25 as most pro's do, you come out at 27, and that is maybe pushing it too far to become a progamer again.
Another possibility is that Anytime thinks that he might aswell join the army now and pickup with SC2 when he comes out, especially now that he is going down hill. He is going to be the top Kespa ranked player in ACE. Not bad, fOru, DaeZang, Reach and Anytime.

Exactly, why not?
Besides it might feel very good to have done your 2 years of service instead of stalling it forever

Maybe he's doing it so that he can focus less on SC and more on training his body.~ After all, he's the only one in the Arena MSL intro. vid without a shirt on, isn't he? =O

Definitely unexpected, Anytime is young enough to have a few years left in his career.

I think that's the point. He joins now, is able to play trough the whole time and get's out at a good age where he can decide if he wants to start something else or keep going as a pro (or heck even start coaching).
I think he made the decicion when he heard that they don't close ace and then just jumped on the train before it's too late.
|
i wonder where nada will be in 2-3 years

Damn . I wonder where all the progamers as we know them now will be when SC2 will come out ? Sad day for Lecaf's fans.

Well when he finishes the military he'll still only be 23/24

Why would Boxer leave Ace? It's his team. Will they kick him out when he stops his military service?
If they get into Ace now they can do their time. But if they go in 3 years when there is no more Ace, they can't.

If NaDa would leave Fox for the Airforce, my heart would absolutly break in two
They would shave his hair off! My God I can't even think of it (besides, I am NOT gay)

ACE is a proteam exlusive for people who are currently doing army service. It's forbidden for "civilians". It's not that they kick him out, it's just that he is not in the army anymore, therefore he can't be in something that involves only army members.
Besides, where would you rather go? ACE, a team full of washed up progamers or SKT, one of the economically most powerful teams in the proscene, full of old friends, and with unbeatable salary/training conditions & partners?
|
Man, with Anytime joining ACE will have Reach, Anytime, Daezang, and ForU. That's some protoss players there.
Now if Nal_rA joins...
|
All old gamers should join ACE
|
I wonder who else will join the bandwagon, ACE will def have more flare next season
|
I think it's smart to join now. When sc2 comes out and bw won't be played as much (or not at all) Ace will probably disband sooner or later, so he uses his chance for an easy and relaxed military service, where he can still play professional sc

Ace would very quickly become the most watched team in proleague, with the most accomplished roster/bench.
Edit: And still unable to keep a .500 win percentage.

Hourso of not seeing a logic behind AnyTime's move and now that I finally figured it out doh you're quicker I think this is exactly his motivation.
Actually quite a strong tactical move!
|
I think in Anytime's case, he might just actually not mind joining the army.
|
ACE is gradually transforming itself into an evil superteam of Reach, Anytime, Jaedong, Hwasin, Xellos, Bisu, Yellow, Flash, rA, Nada, and IntoTheRainbOw, and every remaining progamer will have to join ACE in order to stop getting owned so hard. Then ACE will win the PL grand finals.
Go ACE!
EDIT: oops, and SaviOr of course. Kingdom and Oov will do coaching and Boxer will be kept in a cryogenic chamber and released for the ace matches.
|
Can someone translate the fomos article? Or at least see if Anytime gave any reasons for this move? Is it because he's not getting played on Lecaf?

ACE may actually have a winning record next year, I highly doubt they will be in last place. Hopefully some more old greats join. Shame Boxer won't be there for this. Anytime/Daezang/Oversky/Boxer would be a ridiculous 1v1 lineup.

Alright, someone explain something please: people are saying "once he joins the army, he will play in ACE." But I thought ACE was only for people in the Air Force? I'm assuming there are similar divisions as in the united states (Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force), or can people from any armed service branch join ACE? Or do people mean Air Force when they say army?

Boxer should just stay in ACE now, band together with the other old timers and teach these young'uns how it's done.

Wow.. ACE is really getting quite the roster built up.
If they just will give them some more practice time I have a feeling ACE can be a real strong contender next season.

And this explains why Anytime hasn't been in OZ's proleague lineup lately. They probably are really working on getting there other players used to stage / tv games to be backups. With Backho, ForGG, Lomo and HiyA - OZ will be alright

On July 03 2008 05:25 G5 wrote: And this explains why Anytime hasn't been in OZ's proleague lineup lately. I am wondering wether this is the cause or the consequence. I would tend to think that Anytime has been struggling lately to keep a decent level, hence his lack of play with Lecaf, with all the newcomers rocking the place. As much as I like Anytime, I must admit his last games were quite depressing (0-2 in the all Protoss group in MSL, 0-2 in OSL againt Terrans, 0-2 against Memory in TG-Intel, and a barely 50% win rate in PL). Joining the army is a smart choice I think. He will still have many possibilities when he finishes, including continuing his career, maybe on SC2. And in 2-3 year, ACE roster may be so stacked that some ex pros might not even be able to join.

There are lots of discussion in Korean communities regarding the reasons for Anytime's decision to join ACE because he said that he was contemplating the possibility of retiring if joining ACE was not possible and you KNOW you don't think that kind of stuff unless you're have some serious problems with those around you.
The most popular theory is that we're seeing what happened to July with Anytime here.
Why did July leave MBCGame for SKT1 for contract reasons if SKT1 offered him less money?
The reason is pride. July MADE MBCGame what it is today. From a bunch of zeros to a championship winning team. Why didn't July leave when the big teams were offering him huge sums of money? Because he felt he was indispensable at the team. He was the team's savior, best player and the most respected player in one. But as soon as his level of play started dropping, he got the cold shoulder. He was offered less money than players like Bisu. And July probably felt very hurt because he carried his team on his shoulders to where it is today and as soon as they had better players to rely on, he suddenly became from the hero of the team to "one of the many players we have". July probably wanted to scream out "I GOT you where you are today and now you're ready to treat me like an ordinary player just because you can afford to now?".
Anytime is also THE reason why the bottom scraping team like PLUS were transitioned into a powerhouse with a respectable sponsor. It probably escapes words how hard it must have been have achieved that. And Anytime was responsible for the most of it. But Lecaf has better players now. The manager of the team struggled with the players once, but now has a celebrity for a wife and probably wants bigger success to keep his lady content. Situations have changed so much and Anytime probably felt betryal to some extent. There was a show Anytime appeared on a few months ago and he said "things were better back then, not that things are bad now, but I just wanted to say things were better back then". He probably felt the winds of change even back then.
I think it's inevitable such things happen when a poor team suddenly gets the money, success and great players. The previous ace of the team who played a huge part in getting all that success suddenly becomes one of the many great players. And if his level of play drops, he becomes one of the players. The whole E-sports scene is so fickle. I just wish the players who gave ALL their youth and skill to keep this business alive are treated better. Just wishful thinking though, probably won't happen anytime soon.
|
I bet MBC is kicking themselves right now, with July shooting for the golden mouse.
|
Honestly, I think this is a good move for any progamer who is faltering right now. Get the military service out of the way before SC2 comes out and a new e-sports scene emerges(hopefully).
I dread the idea of NaDa being absent for SC2 because he's patrolling the DMZ instead of a resurgence of 2002-2003, in 2010 or 2012!
The Glory
Good for Anytime!
Edit: I say this as the greatest NaDa fan that ever was!

Can't remember the details. July didn't get ripped off or anything, but the cash he was offered by SKT1 certainly worth all that fiasco. Doesn't matter though, he would have had astronomical earnings had he just left POS to die. He didn't, and he felt betrayed that the team were so quick put him down just because they could do without him.
Anytime was with PLUS from the time when he was freshmen gamer who did the laundry for the team and practiced when the "veteran" gamers went to bed (because he had no computer of his own to practice with), to an OSL champion, and then a Proleague MVP and champion. He shared a part of his winnings for the team, he got them the recognition they needed in order to get the sponsors. God knows what Anytime must have went through to achieve all that in such miserable conditions. All it took was a mediocre season from Anytime for everyone to forget everything he'd done so far. Seems a little harsh.

As I diehard Lecaf fan solely because of Anytime's character, charisma, leadership and play, I am greatly saddened to read this news/speculation.
It's truly a shame because as you say, it was he who made PluS into Lecaf, a doormat into a champion. If he is indeed getting the cold shoulder, it's truly a disgrace.

I remember Plus getting sponsorship before G.O, POS and KOR because of Anytime. (although GO was just holding out till getting terms they needed/wanted)
We were all up in arms because the inferior team (Plus) got sponsorship before POS, which already had Pusan, July, Sea in the forefront of their lineup and doing well in their leagues (Pusan had finished 3rd in Shinhan 2005, July is self explanatory, Sea had raped Nal_rA in dual league).
This is so fucked up.

This is when he FIRST joined the proteam. He did start with the worst manager imaginable tho... a thug who owned a pc bang...treated him like a shit. Still he had it better than the rest of older gamers. Not having their own computer is not a big deal, when there were plenty of others like him who were starving trying to be a progamer...

Yes I realize that, but the way he put it just intensified my emotions. I know he hasn't been doing too well of late, but you would think they would play him a few more times in PL as a thank you for everything you've done. It wouldn't hurt them that much anyway because they have so many solid players.
They ought to throw him a going away party anyway and I really hope they do.
I totally forgot about their first manager and it really puts things into perspective.
Some pro gamers go through a lot of hardships to make it. This is true.

It will be sad to see Anytime slump under Ace. Of course, he is slumping now. But it was only a few months ago he made it to the semi finals in the gom invitational. Hes a great player. Hes not doing well not because of modern play, he understands modern play. Its confidence. How will he do under Ace? Not too well. Its always sad to see that happen, and then when the old gosu does retire, they have negative records in most of their match ups, when they use to have such....brilliance. We can already see that in Anytime, with a mere 50% pvp record. Sometimes I wish they retired just as the slump hit, to avoid all the humiliation, which as we all know, because of human nature, means more than their own achievements. Poor Anytime.
Oh well. I always knew Lecaf was a piece of shit.

I don't believe any of the koreans here mentioned this yet but,
You do realize that joining the army as early as possible is recommended and not looked down in any way by Korean society, right? I mean the exact opposite is true.
It's mandatory, you get it over with, you AREN'T the bitch who's 35 or whatever taking orders from a 20 year old. Sure, sc2/semi-slump etc may be factors adding to his decision but I'm willing to bet it's because there's a air force bw team NOW and he's not that much older than when korean males are eligible to do their service.
Also I can see why the info about Anytime doing laundry not having a computer to practice with etc may seem like a shock to you guys, but please keep korean culture in mind. Most of the time, whether the person doing the chores gives a shit or not it's expected, deal with it[again why its better to go to army asap]. Also willing to bet Anytime didn't mind doing this since I guess that's part of the progamers-living-together sub culture.
Whenever people talk about korea and bw they immediately mention the 5+ lan centers per block yet when some pity story about Anytime comes up they forget about that kinda stuff? I seriously doubt he waited around doing nothing waiting for the ' veteran ' gamers to finish.

I don't get the outrage at Anytime not getting a computer / doing the laundry. Didn't all the younger no-name gamers do that?

Mantoss and Death God on the same team. Sweet.

why join now
Better to get it over and done with early IMO. The sense of freedom after serving is great.

Anytime is getting his military service over with. But it also spells the end of him as a top class player, and more importantly for him, one of the highest earners in the scene. It's a shame because he only recently to reap the benefits after all he'd done for the team from one of the worst conditions around. He only started to get his massive salary this year and something must be seriously wrong with you if you think he's giving that up simply because he wants to get his military service over and done with, or because he feels that he is slumping. You don't throw away something you worked so hard for that easily.
What Anytime has done is comparable to a player from Estro winning the OSL, getting them a huge sponsorship deal, then guiding his team to proleague victory, finally getting a top class salary, then quitting the team for military service a few months after. Yes he gets his duty over with and he can still participate as a progamer but you're kissing your high salary days good bye because there's no way you're going to reach the same heights two years from now.
Going to ACE is the best move possible for people like Reach because his age prevents him from participating in the progaming scene without joining ACE and he's been earning top tier salary for quite some time now. But joining ACE is a TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE move for Anytime and something must have been seriously bothering him for him to do this.

In the army whoever joins earlier is the senior to you regardless of your age or qualification, so if you're not looking forward to be bullied by guys 5 years younger than you, it's better to join early than late.

I'd like to bring a few more points to everyones attention. Yes these players are all very good in their own respects, but you have to realize how drastic a change will be here. For Reach, Anytime, Rainbow, Silent_Control and the other new players joining, two things will happen. Military structure will kick in and they will be the low men. We might not see them play for a while. Also, when we do see them, they will not be helping ACE "light up the scene", as some have said. Second, most of these people have been recent 2v2 players, and ACE seems to have found a 2v2 combination that works. That may change, but right now, they are working well (6-2 together). Third, they will be on the same reduced practice schedule as everyone else in ACE, meaning they will maybe get 3-5 hours a day, I think the figure was, where as someone on even eSTRO, will get 10+ hours a day. They have duties that have to be fulfilled. Finally, ACE still has yet to confirm that they will be participating. Yes, it seems as if they will, but if the government decides to shut down the operation, even at the very last minute, all these players are still obligated to their consignments, meaning we won't see them at all in the next 2 to 2 1/2 years.

Hopefully Nada doesn't join ACE/retire anytime soon, he still has it O_o
I think it's a shame about Anytime, but it does remind you that for all the jokes about KTF (though not so much anymore, with the emergence of Flash), they, WeMade and SKT1 seem to be the only teams whose management actually cares for the ones that got them to where they are today...
... and incidentally all three of those were heavily, heavily touched by the Hand of Go- I mean, Boxer...

I really am quite saddened by this. I hope he doesn't slump too bad and manages to make a return after his service in some way shape or form. I'd really like to know his exact reasons for joining so early. He's a true legend and I wish him the best.
