Group A Preview

Stick Em' Up

In the thrilling quarterfinal matchup of the ASL17, (P)Best and (T)Sharp face off in a best-of-five series, each aiming to secure a spot in the semifinals. BeSt, having emerged victorious against formidable opponents like Action, TaeNgGu, Rush, and Shuttle in the group stages, enters the quarterfinals with confidence and a reputation for calculated play. His elo board stats highlight his proficiency across all matchups, particularly in Protoss versus Terran scenarios, where he boasts a win rate of 67.1%. On the other side, Sharp has demonstrated exceptional micro-management and tactical acumen in his victories over Mind, Action, and Mind. With a solid overall win rate of 67.5%, Sharp's strategic flexibility and ability to adapt to different playstyles make him a formidable opponent for any contender.

Map 1: (Wiki)Radeon - (P)Best's Map Pick
In the opening map of the series, BeSt opts for Radeon, a map where he has shown dominance in the past. With a win rate of 66.7% on this map and a strong performance against Terran opponents, BeSt aims to set the tone early and establish map control. Sharp, however, won't back down easily, relying on his solid overall win rate of 67.5% to mount a formidable defense. Expect a closely contested match as both players vie for early map control and strategic advantage.

Map 2: (Wiki)Blitz Y - (T)Sharp's Map Pick
For the second map, Sharp selects Blitz Y, a map that plays to his strengths as a Terran player. With a win rate of 70% on this map and a particularly strong performance against Protoss opponents, Sharp aims to capitalize on his aggressive playstyle and put BeSt on the back foot. BeSt, with his elo board stats indicating proficiency across all matchups, must stay vigilant and adapt quickly to Sharp's aggressive strategies if he hopes to secure a victory and level the series.

Map 3: (Wiki)Citadel- (P)Best's Map Pick
Returning to his favored playstyle, BeSt chooses Citadel for the third map of the series. With a commanding win rate of 68.2% on this map and a strong performance against Terran opponents, BeSt aims to capitalize on his familiarity with the map's layout and strategic opportunities. Sharp, however, won't go down without a fight, relying on his tactical acumen and adaptability to mount a formidable challenge. Expect an intense battle as both players showcase their skills and vie for control of the map.

Map 4: (Wiki)Apocalypse- (T)Sharp's Map Pick
Sharp's decision to pick Apocalypse for the fourth map reflects his confidence in his ability to execute aggressive strategies and control the pace of the game. With a solid win rate of 69.2% overall and a particularly strong performance against Protoss opponents, Sharp aims to leverage the map's unique layout to catch BeSt off guard and gain the upper hand. BeSt, with his elo board stats indicating proficiency across all matchups, must stay composed and execute his strategies flawlessly to avoid falling behind in the series.

Map 5: (Wiki)Retro- Neutral Map
In the decisive fifth map, BeSt and Sharp face off on Retro, a neutral battleground where anything can happen. With both players evenly matched in terms of elo board stats and win rates, this map promises to be a true test of skill and determination. As the series reaches its climax, expect an epic showdown as BeSt and Sharp leave it all on the line in pursuit of victory. The player who can stay composed under pressure and execute their strategies flawlessly will emerge triumphant and advance to the semifinals.

Conclusion:
After a grueling series filled with intense battles and strategic maneuvering, the outcome remains uncertain until the very end. However, based on their performances in the tournament so far and the analysis of their matchups and map picks, BeSt's slightly higher win rate and his strategic brilliance give him a slight edge in this quarterfinal matchup. Therefore, I predict that BeSt will emerge victorious in a hard-fought series, likely with a 3-2 scoreline, securing his spot in the semifinals of the ASL17.

(P)Best Advances To The Ro4 3-2!

Group B Preview

The Brave and The Bold

In the ASL17 journey, (Z)hero and (T)Rush have weathered the storm of fierce competition to emerge as quarterfinal contenders. RoyaL, a formidable Terran adversary, proved to be a tough challenge for Rush in Group F, but Rush managed to secure a hard-fought victory, showcasing his resilience and determination. On the other hand, hero faced a formidable lineup in Group B, overcoming the likes of Mini and BarrackS with remarkable prowess, solidifying his reputation as a Zerg powerhouse. With their path to the quarterfinals paved with triumphs and challenges alike, hero and Rush now stand poised for an electrifying showdown to determine who will advance to the next stage of the ASL17 tournament.

Map 1: (Wiki)Troy SE - (Z)hero's Pick

In the opening match on Troy SE, hero faces off against Rush in what promises to be an intense ZvT battle. As a Zerg player, hero has showcased exceptional prowess in ZvT matchups, boasting a solid win rate on similar maps characterized by wide-open spaces and strategic opportunities for harassment. With his adept macro management and aggressive playstyle, hero aims to gain an early advantage by overwhelming Rush with relentless pressure and map control. However, Rush, known for his defensive Terran play and strategic positioning, poses a significant challenge. Despite hero's aggressive maneuvers, Rush's resilience and ability to capitalize on defensive advantages ultimately secure him victory on Troy SE, setting the tone for the rest of the series.

Map 2: (Wiki)Citadel - (T)Rush's Pick

Transitioning to Citadel, hero and Rush continue their clash in a map renowned for its intricate pathways and defensive opportunities. With hero seeking to rebound from his initial defeat, he looks to capitalize on Citadel's narrow corridors and potential for multi-pronged attacks to catch Rush off guard. Throughout his career, hero has demonstrated a keen understanding of ZvT dynamics, often leveraging map control and mobility to outmaneuver his opponents. However, Rush remains a formidable adversary, boasting a strong record in defensive Terran play and adeptly handling Zerg aggression. In a closely contested battle, hero's relentless pressure and strategic harassment tactics eventually overcome Rush's defenses, securing him victory on Citadel and leveling the series.

Map 3: (Wiki)Neo Dark Origin - (Z)hero's Pick

As the series reaches its midpoint on Neo Dark Origin, hero and Rush find themselves locked in a battle of attrition on a map known for its balanced design and strategic depth. With the score tied, both players look to gain the upper hand and seize momentum heading into the latter stages of the series. hero, drawing upon his experience and adaptability in ZvT matchups, seeks to exploit Neo Dark Origin's symmetrical layout and strategic resources to gain an advantage over Rush. Conversely, Rush's disciplined approach to map control and macro management aims to neutralize hero's aggressive tendencies and establish a solid foundation for his Terran army. In a back-and-forth encounter, it is hero who ultimately prevails, showcasing his strategic finesse and relentless aggression to secure a critical victory on Neo Dark Origin.

Map 4: (Wiki)Radeon- (T)Rush's Pick

With the series deadlocked at 2-1 in hero's favor, the action shifts to Radeon for the pivotal fourth match between hero and Rush. On this map characterized by its unique terrain features and potential for positional play, both players must adapt their strategies to gain the upper hand. hero, buoyed by his recent victory and momentum, looks to maintain his aggressive tempo and capitalize on Radeon's layout to pressure Rush from multiple angles. However, Rush, known for his resilience and adaptability, aims to turn the tide in his favor by exploiting positional advantages and staging calculated counterattacks. Despite hero's valiant efforts, Rush's strategic acumen and defensive prowess shine through, as he secures victory on Radeon, setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion in the final map of the series.

Map 5: (Wiki)Blitz Y - Neutral

In the climactic showdown on Blitz Y, hero and Rush vie for supremacy in a winner-takes-all battle to secure a spot in the next round of the tournament. With the series tied at 2-2, both players unleash their full arsenal of strategies and tactics on a map known for its fast-paced gameplay and potential for explosive engagements. hero, drawing upon his experience and adaptability, seeks to maintain his aggressive momentum and catch Rush off guard with relentless pressure and map control. Meanwhile, Rush, known for his resilience and defensive play, aims to weather hero's onslaught and turn the tide with well-timed counterattacks and positional maneuvers. In a nail-biting conclusion, it is hero who emerges victorious, showcasing his strategic finesse and unwavering determination to secure a hard-fought victory on Blitz Y and advance to the next stage of the tournament.

Maybeeeee......

I actively try to avoid Bisu writeups and LR threads with Bisu in it. I don't want to jinx anything or come off biased. But he hasn't won an ASL yet so time to do something different!

I believe Best picked maps 2 and 4, not Sharp (and Sharp picked maps 1 and 3). At least, that's what Liquipedia says.

(Note: the series already happened so avoid looking at liquipedia if you don't want spoilers)

Rush vs Hero... Gah this is a head scratcher. They both have the same strengths and weaknesses. I guess it'll depend on if Hero loses drones to early game barracks cheeses and pressures. I think Rush has an edge here, but it's close. Like 60/40.

I'd be cool with any of the top 8 winning this year. That's not something I've ever said before. What a great lineup of enjoyable players :3
Bisu is my heart though lol

Lol Sharp would have been Soulkey's top pick if he wasn't a seed in ro16.

I'm in favor of rotating champions.
That's why it would be cool if there was a final: Sharp/Rush/herO vs SnOw/Bisu
