We're moving in the wrong direction. The more tightly bound the games are in terms of MMR the better they play. Why not just add another bot for SA games? This would bring a lot of new players in as the level of play goes up. Playing 50+ games and SABC are just a completely different game than playing an SA only game. The games play out totally different and the strategies that are viable are also completely different. It's a lot less fun when you introduce a bunch of low players on either side. | ||

i think most ppl at C or below just randomly join the bot and dont even know what is happening. why have a ranking system at all if you just lump em all together in the end in some SAB game. from my past experience playing other ladders, at some point you were at the top level and only had high level games. here it just even dont come close - even when the current SAB games fill in milliseonds for hours | ||

There are a bunch of high level players on west, and a ton of high level Chinese players that don't bother with the MMR service. I think if you created SA level, you could potentially court both of these groups. This is why I was advocating for a SA, and 24/7 SABC/SAB schedule as these time zones do not overlap. Bringing these communities together in EU would be amazing imo. | ||

And I get not wanting to play with newbies (even if I myself enjoy that), but B players aren't newbies. I also don't think higher ranked people are more entitled to having the bot than worse players are. There's a coherent argument I agree with that we should have more SAB(C) than DEF because the SAB(C) fills up instantly while the DEF doesn't, but there needs to be an option for the DEF players, too, and while the DEF player base is much less active than the higher ranked ones, there are lots of active B players (I mean otherwise the argument that we should have SA only bot wouldn't really have any validity) and I don't want them to have fewer bot options than SA players do. | ||

And I think that if you court the highest skill level players, the other players would follow, thereby expanding the community. Not only do they not show up to these games, but every game outside the bot game is a DEF game. They're not missing out on anything. I think by definition of being a DEF player, you're not as serious about it and don't have as much care in the world about whether there's a DEF bot or not. Bot games are 16 turn rate, which doesn't lag. There are already quite a few Chinese players in the mix and I have not noticed any lag from them. | ||

I think the community itself would happily support this project if it was a money issue. I would be willing to donate the cloud hosting cost of an SA bot for the entire year if our dear leader indicated that he was interested in taking donations. My understanding is that he is not. | ||

I'm struggling to climb past 2200 despite having a W/L ratio > 50%, it's like Im winning 20pts but losing 40... On the leaderboards there are people with a similar number of games, a worst ratio, but they have 500 or even 600 more points than me it's crazy. What am I missing ? | ||

The system is a variation of the Elo rating system, commonly used in games like chess. Essentially, the points gained or lost depend on the MMR difference between the two opposing teams. Losing to a lower-rated opponent results in a greater point deduction. That being said, if your BGH nickname matches your forum nickname, you've gained over 250 MMR points in the last two months and are currently well above 2200, sitting at 2293. | ||
