Full disclosure, I am a Jaedong fan. Having watched the group selection for the round of 16 I was surprised to see how eager Rain was to play Jaedong. Also many of the players faked picking Jaedong throughout the rounds with Larva even dropping his card at one point.
I get the feeling that people are thinking Jaedong is not in his best form and while that may be true I am still surprised that Rain didn't ask Flash to swap with sSak so he could play Mind first round.
Honestly, I think that Rain is just not that smart... He had a MUCH better chance to advance from round A (as second, behind Flash). He wanted to be switched into a group with Soulkey and JD? With PvP against Stork which is basically a toss up... I'd say that he has around 10% chance of advancing from that group.

I was thinking the same thing but didn't want my bias to Jaedong get in the way so I thought I would ask you guys. I cant wait for this group, so hyped.

Jaedong was alone in the room packing his things together getting ready to go. As he zipped his bag and turned to exit the locker room. He saw Rain standing in the doorway.
"Rain, is everything okay?"
Rain smiled.
"Yeah, JD. I wanted to talk to you before you left."
Rain walked towards Jaedong who put his bag down on the bench.
"What were you thinking earlier at the selection ceremony? You had a MUCH better chance to advance from Group A with Flash! Rain, what were you thinking moving to my group like that??"
"It's okay, JD. If it means I get to be in your group, I would gladly risk losing my place in the ASL."
Jaedong's mouth went wide open.
"What! Why?"
"It's because..... I'm in love you, JD."
Jaedong was stunned.
"I... I thought you loved FlaSh."
Rain stepped forward and placed his right hand on Jaedong's shoulder.
"I do love FlaSh, but I'm IN love with you."
"Why didn't you tell me this earlier, Rain?"
"I didn't realize......... just how much I had feelings for you until I saw everyone touching your name tag at the board. It made me think about how much I want to touch you."
Rain's hand started moving down Jaedong's chest.
"How much I want to kiss you."
His hand started moving down Jaedong's stomach.
"Unlike Larva, I won't ever drop you."
His hand started to go even lower.
"Because my love for you is boundless."
Jaedong placed his hand over Rain's, stopping him.
"No, wait, Rain. We can't..."
Rain placed his other hand on Jaedong's shoulder.
"It's okay, JD. I'd like to show you just how much I want you."
Rain leaned forward and licked Jaedong's ear. Jaedong closed his eyes and gasped as feelings of warmth spread throughout his body. Rain whispered in his ear.
"Do you like this, hyung?"
Jaedong was lost for words. This reminded him of his days with Lomo at the Hwaseung OZ house. He wanted to speak, but he couldn't. His breathing became heavy. Rain seized the moment and kissed Jaedong, pushing him against the lockers. Jaedong embraced Rain, his hands roaming Rain's body.
"AHHHHHHHHHH!!"
Startled, Rain and JD fell out of their embrace and looked to the source of the noise at the entrance of the locker room. It was FlaSh!
"What's going on in here!? What have you done, Rain???? I thought we had something special!"
Rain was in disbelief. He thought FlaSh left the ASL studio already.
"FlaSh-hyung, I thought you left already! I can explain!"
"No, Rain, I don't want to hear it. I thought you loved me. I can never forgive you! I'm not your BFF anymore!"
FlaSh ran out the door. Jaedong turned to Rain.
"Whoa, are you a super player? You pick up progamers and play StarCraft?"
Rain grinned.

This is vile, but I'm laughing. Bravo sir.
Anyways, Rain WANTED to be in Group A. But Flash wanted no Protosses in his group, so Rain made a deal. Group B is obviously insane so that's off bounds, and between C and D I think D is easier.

Honestly I thought the whole thing was a little unfiar. I don't see why Flash had to move someone. It reminds me of the card game "capatalism"/"president" where the winner gets to trade cards with the loser...just gives the president a stronger advantage, which isn't really needed imo.

Jaedong is rusty. In his streams he's getting destroyed. Definitely not close to his true form. Bisu and Shuttle are straight up wrecking though (the last KCM showed a whole new Shuttle). Group C will be great to watch, and group D is definitely the easy group IMO. Group B is...

I'm not sure if this post is more likely to get gold or a warning/nuke. lol
If Jaedong is as rusty as people are saying, why did no one just actually pick him?! Fine, I get effort not wanting him in the group with all zergs and flash/rain wanting a terran but then why did group C not pick him?

You can't swap seeds. Larva was hoping that he'd be swapped with Baxter, thus putting him in a relatively easy group and making sure at least two Zergs are absent in Ro. 8
Flash likes a challenge so much he would swap out the free win(Baxter) for larva, who is a little bit less of a free win? Nah, Larva just wants out of the zerg shit show.
If he actually wanted to play flash in the beginning he would've challenged flash in the beginning.

You seem to forget that Rain didn't have the option of staying in Group A because Flash wanted another Terran player and no Protoss in his group. Sure, Group D is now definitly the group of death, but at least he doesn't have to play 1-3 PvP's against 2 of the best PvP players in recent years (Bisu & Shuttle).
My impression was that Rain would have been very happy in Group A, but he knew Flash would kick out the strongest opponent in Group A and that would be him. Rain knew he had the option of bringing in someone even scarier than himself (like Jaedong), hoping Flash would boot the scary player and leave him, but this strategy could backfire. Flash could decide, for example, to have some LeeSsangRok in the Ro16 and put Rain somewhere bad. Rain hoped above all to avoid Group B, so he struck a bargain with Flash that sacrificed his chance of being in his favorite group (Group A) in exchange for avoiding his least favorite group (Group B).
Overall, I would say that Jaedong being last-picked speaks for itself... Even though people joked about taking him, nobody actually wanted to if they could choose someone else.

Yes sSak took Bisu to game 5 but sSak and Mind are NOTHING compared to Jaedong and Soulkey [and stork who beat Last in a macro game]
JD / Stork rusty blah blah blah they have like 2.5 weeks of full practice to get to their god form again

I don't think you understand. Larva's goal was to get all the Zergs in one group and leave at the end. If he challenges Flash at the beginning he can't do that.
Second, yes Flash takes challenges seriously. After seeing Larva challenging him after he got out of Group A, he specifically said he always accepts challenges. This was rectified when Larva on his stream kneeled and begged for mercy later. Also near the end when Larva challenged Flash, despite the selection ceremony having been mostly complete Flash was pondering whether to take Larva's offer head on. He ultimately fell on the side of Rain, however.

I would like to hear if there ever were a case that Flash actually took a challenge instead of opting for the easiest choice? Flash saying he takes challenges seriously is one thing, actually taking them is another. I just remember the last ASL where both his choices made his group easier (First picking Hyun to his group then switching effort with ggaemo). This season was hardly different. Flash, in general, doesn't strike to me as a player who would make gutsy moves such as Larva's gimmicks in the group ceremony, instead he seems to constantly be opting for the most optimal route for wins.

Yes, I agree with you that Group C seems easier for Rain than Group D. I think maybe he said that he would be happy with C or D as long as it wasn't B.

My impression from ASL3's group selection ceremony is the same as yours: Flash wants the easiest possible group and will use his champion's privilege to get it.

I suspect you are right on both counts. Jaedong may be rusty but you never know when a champion is going to remember something of his old form right out of the blue. Just look what Stork ended up doing to Last. I think they don't want to pick Jaedong because, rusty as he may be, there is always a chance that on game day it will be champion Jaedong that sits down to play in stead of rusty Jaedong.
Also, I got the impression that Larva picked Effort to be even more certain that Shine was going to get knocked out but maybe I bought too much into his big talk.
