VANT had 38,000,000 prize pool while this 24,000,000. At least this one is not top heavy and everyone in the RO16 will get some cash. Sounds cool.
First place getting five times as much as second place not too top heavy? Huh?
I meant not top heavy as the VANT league. That one the first place took 6 times as much and non below 4th place took anything. Here everyone does take something.

hmm, might attract a good amount of foreign audience if tastosis are casting but korean numbers have to be good for sponsors.

well just when we had the chance to mb get professional foreign casters back into Broodwar, there's a sharp decline. Less players advance from the prelims, less prize money and no sponsor. The last part is worrysome to me; if the annual big korean Starleague can't find a proper sponsor, it's sad times.
Happy to see this tho and best of luck to Scan who is training hard fot it. Competition is gonna be very tough.

Thanks for cheering me. I really do not know if I will be able to participate. My plane schedule is on 22nd which I will arrive in Korea night time on 23rd. Currently, I am having a difficulty of registering the qualifiers so I sent an email to them. I hope I can play..
So sick to see broodwar coming back! Afreeca has done a great job with GSL this season so I'm excited to relive my first experiences watching KR Broodwar all over again.

Dodge harder bisu, he used SSL11 to dodge the army last year, now that he isn't even willing to compete in tournaments, how did he manage to avoid it this year?

Yeah, their attitude towards the KCM tournaments has been poor too. It's very upsetting.

Looks like starleague.kr was updated today with VANT36.5 added under sponsor, so it's good to hear an outside sponsor is providing some financing.
Hopefully they're pleased with the exposure from the VNSL last year

If we get either Jaedong vs Flash or vs Bisu in the finals could we see they delaying the finals one week to get an outer venue? Man can dream

nothing has been said yet, but if it has, they should also increase the player pool to atleast 24 and seed the top 4 from the VNSL in the Ro16, which happens to contain both Bisu and ZerO the two people who have expressed doubt about participating, pretty much guaranteeing their participation.
of course rescheduling is going to be hard at this point.
Speaking of seeds, a news article/press release came out yesterday. It looks like EffOrt and Bisu are being provided byes into the Ro16 as seeds based on their VNSL performances.
Also some mention of Flash and Best, I think about being likely participants?

Woo! I'm really glad this is finally announced. I hope BW can rebuild the momentum we had earlier this year. It was so awesome to see so many people watching BW on Twitch, Tasteless & Artosis, Brood War trending on Twitter them announcing TWO leagues for 2016 ....and then the drought of nothing.
Oh well, enough of the whining, I'm excited for the future! I hope the schedule is nice enough for Bisudagger & xkcd can cast a lot of it.
having new blood is meaningless when its a fight for 16 spots, there should be at least ro32 for them to have chance. Also non ex-pro tours are needed to support that.
Are you sure they are young people? As I know in korea every young guy plays lol. Dont forget korea sold 4mio bw copies, Its clear that bw has still a big community of old fans.

I feel like they gonna split to 32 ppl each session and pick 1st 2nd. For example, if there is 320 ppl coming for seoul qualifer, then split to 10 sessions. So there will be 20 qualified players and plus same thing for pusan qualifier. Whatever the number of players qualified play against each other for until 12 players remaining.
Idk my basic idea could be wrong. Idk how they are gonna pull out 12 players out of 600 players.

Flash's TvZ this month is 39:8 this month. Freaking 83% while Hero's zvt this month is only 33:63 (34.3%). It won't be epic. it will be a slaughter. Only Best has notable win rate against Flash, beating flash 14:8. It was worse than this earlier this month but Flash is catching up to Best little by little. No zerg is gonna beat Flash. His TvZ is getting better day by day. you can notice this if you watch his stream. it's freaking amazing. His weakest was TvP but hes getting back into form in TvP as well. I don't see anyone beating Flash in bo5 other than Best or Last(Last had the highest win rate in the month of March and April, well over 70% and has the second highest win rate this month behind bisu. Flash is 3rd). If it weren't for Best Flash would be first. It's funny how Last is strong against Best but weak against Bisu, but Flash is Strong against Bisu but weak against Best.

Since the return of Flash, every single Terrans are copying flash's TvZ and all of the zerg's are getting destroyed by terrans. Only Effort has winning record against Terrans with 37 win and 33 losses this month. It's seems like it's getting worse and worse everyday.
Protoss has a hard time as well. Every Zerg player is copying Hero and running over Protoss. Bisu is the only Protoss that beats zergs these days.
Terran on the other hand is doing just fine. 4 out of top 5 players this month are Terrans.
Well, if Flash destroys all, he will solidify his bw god status forever u guess. I can understand bisu discouraged by last tournaments he lost, or the need to take some air off the pressure of tournaments, maybe hes getting tired. The real problem is, that there is not enough leagues for all the players to compete, that discourages them to practice hard and by that the overal form of the players decreaces. We need at least 3 big tournaments with 32 players per year to support somewhat healthy scene.

proleague is where it is
clan wars could be possible right now, well they do happen and sometimes theres a broadcast but unless theres some money and some high profile players(actually from what I understand high profiler players do play occasionally) I don't think its very likely, although its something to communicate with organizers.
but something on the level of proleague would be impossible.

Is this the photoshoot Bisu mentioned in the other thread? I hope it's another event :3

Just wanted to post about Jaehoon but thought someone else will gonna do it. At least in posing he isn't falihooning that far. Sea with his "choker" stand, very funny. Mong looks like a pig. Mind looks like terminator. Also by.hero's look says "You know I'm good at it, I'll show you".
^^Pretty sure no new maps for the Ro16 groups. I watch streams every day and I haven't see any new maps being practiced. At the same time, lots of Blue Storm being played, so that should continue
Maybe a Korean speaker can confirm, but it sounds like PianO mentions the two new ones, Taekbaek Mountains and Overwatch, won't be added until the bracket/finals

He's saying one of the map from the qualifiers will be omitted to add the 2 new maps. He also said during his stream that he'll start practicing the new maps as soon as the the finalized versions come out. If I'm not wrong i think the current versions are .99.

Very helpful, thanks. To clarify, the two new maps are to be added later in the tournament, not for the initial group round? Or is PianO not explicit about the timing, just that at some point, they'll be added?

Remeber FS, CB, BS was used in the qualifiers? One of those maps will be omitted and 2 new maps will be added to the ro16. Piano thinks Blue Storm will get omitted since it's rare to see two two-player maps in one tournament. The finalized versions of the maps are not out yet. That is why no one is practicing the new maps. They simply don't have the maps.

Awesome, thanks for the info! Does anyone have download links to the new maps? I'd love to test the most current versions so I'm ready to cast them. Also, if anyone has vods of pros playing the new maps please link them!
Both new maps have their own respective threads here on TL, just look for them. The current versions are just gruesomely badly made... So I'd wait for "final versions" to come out. There is a chance they are better (they certainly have been provided with all the info they need to fix the issues). Hope die last, I guess...

Thanks. I wasn't sure if those threads have been updated/would have the latest versions. I understand waiting for the final version, but I want to be familiar at least with the basic feel of the map.

Great, thanks.
With two new maps in the Ro16, advancing could well be even tougher. Who knows what inherent imbalances will be present, and if a player is unlucky with the draw of opponents and maps, he could get eliminated really quickly in those Bo1 matches :/
I think Tastosis casting this is great. Not that i don't appreciate all the work the 'tl catsers' did here, but at the end of the day tastosis are professional casters who are better at it (maybe not knowledge wise, not sure about that). It's also good for the potential sc2 audience. Looking forward to it!

We are still paid casters for this. And I do like to consider myself a professional SC1 caster. I have been an official/paid/sponsor endorsed English caster for the past four major tournaments over the past two years.

You know what i mean (hopefully). Tastosis literally have no other job than casting games, that's not the case for you. You have other stuff to do which means less time to actually work on casting, etc Pls don't take this the wrong way, i am absolutely happy that you guys did what you did (and still do!), but i am also happy that tastosis are casting this on the gsl stream because i am sure that their involvement speaks to a broader audience for various reasons.

. So here we are in a situation where terms are agreed upon between the sponsor and us. Suddenly, we are informed that Blizzard (yes, Blizzard) has demanded this Sunday's selection ceremony can only be streamed my tastless and artosis. We have been instructed by Blizzard, who has shown no interests in SC1 for half a decade, to not stream because they want their SC2 casters to perform the cast in a studio. Blizzard has barred us from casting the players we love this Sunday and xkcd and I from making additional money this Sunday. We are expected to sit back and watch the casting archon cast this event. Sure I get that and I am okay with what you are saying. Here is the perspective from our end in two parts.
The money: This is a paid gig. And yes I am a professional simulations engineer so I do not need this money to put food on the table. But my co-caster xkcd is still in college. Every cast helps him a long way in extra cash. So for him, this potentially does help put food on the table. So here we are in a situation where terms are agreed upon between the sponsor and us. Suddenly, we are informed that Blizzard (yes, Blizzard) has demanded this Sunday's selection ceremony can only be streamed my tastless and artosis. The passion: It would at least feel better if we knew the casting Archon was doing this because they wanted to instead of doing it because Blizzard holds their wallet. They wouldn't be casting these tournaments except Blizzard demanded that they did. We actually had the support of the Afreeca sponsors as they argued for us to be the sole Vant SL casters because they appreciate our passion for casting. Blizzard told them they had have them on. This is 100% true too. And finally, during the VANT starleague finals the casting Archon didn't even acknowledge our existence while we spent part of stream cheering them on and sending people in their direction to check them out.
I don't quite understand why blizzard wouldn't allow you to cast the selection ceremony but the rest is ok? Makes little sense to me. I disagree completely with your "passion" argument though. It's their job and while i actually think that they still like bw quite a lot (tasteless talks about it every other cast) at the end of the day it's a money thing. Afreeca probably wanted you to be the sole casters because you are cheaper, at least that's what i would suspect. Tastosis probably didn't even know that there was a second stream going on. I can understand your frustration, but at the same time i think some ideas here are a bit on the wishfull thinking side of things. Just keep doing it because you love it, other incentives are probably unrealistic though.

Lol, you just made my day. AmazingXKCD was really broken up about it. It's like casting with a sad puppy now.
Lol at the day when BW needs a broader audience that is coming from SC2, SC2 doesnt exist in Korea (just being funded by Blizz to sustain the scene, and with small group of fans) and those SC2 foreigners fans who are declining fast too are not going to move to watch BW suddenly, btw the money that is going to be pay to Artosis and Tasteless should go to the prizepool because it is really small and let the community casters do the job.
On July 08 2016 14:43 Lucumo wrote: Blizzard doing some shitty moves? Doesn't surprise me at all to be honest.
yep, the fkers from blizzard killed BW intentionally to force people to like their new shit, but the shit died because... well because its shit. They killed such great pro scene and left nothing afterwards. Ruined progamers dreams and ambitions and betrayed all the fans. Progamers started to retire crushing fans hearts and people withdrew from sc2, just a few new people were interested. Bizzard morons probably thought ''OH we failed, koreans are not so stupid and can actually see how crappy is our new product is compared to the original. We couldve kept sc1 alive and get money from it in korea. Well then, lets mess with the remnants of bw and continue to plague fans with our shit."
having tastosis cast is super great, but restricting others to cast is bitch move. As if bd and xkcd will steal their viewers...
Who still expects anything different from blizzard? They're not the company they used to be. I haven't bought a blizzard product since WoW vanilla and Sc2 WoL and will continue to do so.

They interact with tournaments which have a prizepool larger than 10k because at that point you need a license to host it.

Even if the original team isn't on Blizz anymore, StarCraft is still Blizz IP. IIRC, Metzen and Didier are still in the company.

Looks like the Kongdoo/Afreeca organizers placed the familiar CB and FS in the first and, most crucial, last positions, with the new maps in between.
Interestingly, they've used the name "New Taebaek Mountains" for the map, as opposed to just "Taebaek Mountains", perhaps to differentiate the updated v1.9 of the map with the significant changes
The only matchup I'm not excited for is Sea vs Hero cause Hero vs T.
The scene's top 4 TvTers are all going to duke it out But man, FlaSh vs Last has to be played too soon >.< The winner of that probably takes the title.
