I just wanted you to know about that upcoming Showmatch, Testie.MYM vs kOOlam. Here is the news about it on out site. I interviewed both of them and I think everybody should see that
Logo: by BaboToss & News by X-MeN-lOki
kOOlam and Testie will be facing off each other in two best of 7 series, one entirely on BGH, and another on several low money maps. The matches will be on regular BGH as opposed to on 6v7, and the low maps will be decided between kOOlam and Testie.
Every starcraft player who has followed the non korean scene, or watched WCG, will be aware of who Testie is. He is undoubtedly one of the best current non korean players, and has the following notable achievements:
2nd place, WCG Canada 2004 Top 16 WCG Grand Final 2004 Longest running KOTH at GG.net Most wins in a row on WGT (58-0) Top 8 WCG Grand Final 2006
=S ? why announced separately from the actual TL vs BGHers showmatch? I thought their games were supposed to be part of the larger ordeal instead of being a separate entity. Oh well I suppose a little bit of hype never hurt anyone.
Both players very mannered in their interviews.
Oh, btw I found a typo:
Babo: What do you think about the upcoming showmatch TLT vs BGHers? Who will win?
I doubt he'll have much trouble on low money maps, and kOOlam is mainly a 2v2 player apparently, plus it's not the 6v7 version, meaning he has to play against a random player on a map with 8 spawn locations.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure Koolam will lose on all the non-money maps . If Koolam is good enough to beat Testie on normal maps (assuming Testie plays his best!) then he ought to be a famous BW player as well.
By the way, since it's bo7 Testie has to win only 4 games, not 7, making it even less likely for Koolam to take any games from him.
This is a great idea. Testie vs kOOlam is a very interesting matchup. Much more interesting, than, for example, testie vs mondie, or really any other non-money vs non-money matchup. The reason it's so fun to read about is because all of TL.net (Z, P, and T players) can get behind testie. Most of the people here are or were competitive SC players. Similarly, with the BGH community, they can all get behind kOOlam.
Personally, though, I'm hoping kOOlam dominates testie on low money.

Why don't you just look at the [Read More...] There are 2 great interviews with the 2 guys.
And please don't start to flame each other in this thread aswell or start arguing 5 pages. (I'm especially looking at Gandalf ). Let the guys play and then we will see

TL.net vs BGHers and Testie vs kOOlam are really two different entity. Testie vs kOOlam showmatch was planned months ago in BGHers.com News Forge, while TL.net vs BGHers.com was initiated only recently by Manifesto.
Both showmatch will be arranged on the same day. A secret channel will be held for Testie vs kOOlam and only some respected admins from TL.net, BGHers.com, and GG.net will be invited.
The best BGH player on earth couldn't take a C+ PGT rank on his own maps (guy could probably use one hand at that). Entertaining, maybe, but pointless.

On January 15 2007 08:49 tenbagger wrote: what is 6v7 version?
It's a rigged BGH where one of the players spawn at start location 6 (bottom middle) and the other spawn at location 7 (bottom left). Or at least thats how I interpret what I heard about it.
Personaly I'd assume the 6 possition would have a slight advantage to 7 possition. And also I think locking it like that is kinda cheating. Remove a lot of game elements just to get som instant action. And position 6 would probably have an easier task to sneak a worker out to expand since 7 position must pass 6 position exit to get to the rest of the map.
Good thing they are not gonna play the rigged one. Should be more intressting this way.
Very looking forward to this...will there are observers available? I'd really like to obs some games...especially since I left one of Testie's games when I wasn't the lagger >:-( (but it wasn't anything important ).
kOOlam: Normally I don’t get nervous, I wasn’t nervous when I played nada so I think I will not get nervous when I play vs testie. It’s a little showmatch just for fun and not wcg final^^ but I got a lot of respect towards testies skills.
wtf?!
1. how did he play nada 2. how was he NOT NERVOUS PLAYING AGAINST FCKING NADA AL;SFDJL;AKSJF
For your information, kOOlam played against Nada while kOOlam is still a BGH "newbie" few years ago in some team game. kOOlam team lost 1-3 to nada team.
They won't play on 6vs7 Fixed BGH. They will play on the original BGH on meele. This means there will be 8 possible spawing positions, what decreases the winning chances of kOOlam^^
Ok, so kOOlam = kural, right? But from some comments and RWTs i also gather that he = Q? As in Projekt-Q?
If so, than he has always been one of the most discussed German players. Once even his existence was doubted in the low-community. Same as with Mensrea here. ^^ Since then, many have been praising him as one of the best Germans but he never actually played with other top players and he never played any show matches or nation wars. However, he once reached PGT A- with the nickname "cvbn" and once again, his fans went apeshit.
Anyway, TL.net obviously has something that Broodwar.de didn't because you guys managed to set up show matches. ^^
im guessing testie is practicing bgh? or just playing. that map has so many loop holes and wierd spots! random race random spawn will be a bitch for kOOlam on an 8 player map i think.
quote from testies interview Testie: I have more respect for Kural than I have respect for many in the top 30 database of gg.net. I think he’s an absolutely amazing & talented player, and if I win this showmatch I’ll consider myself lucky. His unit control, multi-tasking, and macro were impressive. In our 2v2’s we’re undefeated so far and I think it’s mostly because of his hard work. He takes 1v2’s in BGH like it’s his day job. I look at people attacking him and think, “wow that’s a lot of units” and then his opponents units disappear and he still has an army.

Actually it isnt that long since he played NaDa. Its maybe 1.5 - 2 yrs ago and no he wasn't newby back then, like lousy said. I could try fo find these replays. I actually think that i have them.
*Edit* Ok i found them. I'll post a link for the download as soon as the replays get approved.

No, koolam isnt project-q.
What a relief. ^^ I just thought so because the ppl at bghers called some guy in a kural replay "Q". But the guy they were referring to wasn't kural, but LeeJet.

actually, i bet some bgh players can get quite a bit higher than C+ on PGT. on team games the difference can be even larger.
kOOlam and myself played PGT 2on2 and 1on1. We were like 30-3 in 2on2 and both of us were B+ and B in the 1on1. Thats not a hard thng to do if you play serious.

who wants to be on the loser's side? bgh and money maps are child's play compared to bw.-it's like dota and wc3(even though dota is very micro demanding and u probably have higher apm in dota than in wc3 whereas u'r real apm is 40 cuz u don't need more and u get 300+ only if u spam 1-2-1-2)
dunno someone mentioned testie talkin bout koolam like he is better than most of guys in top30 database or could be better-think it's just a way to draw more publicity to the whole thing. it's like crocop vs some chobo american with score 8-0. media tries to make the poor american guy look like a worthy oponent while the fact is he's gonna get stomped by croatian beast.

testie is going random on bgh
if he gets Z or T he will probably lose luck will be on his side since it's all 8 positions though
hmm i guess this is rather interesting there are some insanely good BGH players. but i think people who play non money are faster and have better idea of the game in general. but thats just me i used to play alot of BGH as well

just obsing some bghers today some of the better ones, they averaged 250 apm, their macro was excellent (these weren't the insanely good ones btw) they didn't suicide units into the army and preserved units as best as the could etc. bgh is different from low money but most of the concepts still apply o.o..
Yep, sometimes I'm asking myself why all the people argue so much about low and BGH. I mean it's just a different gaming style, but it's the same game, same units ect. We as SC players should hold together and not flame each other.

BGH is boring. There are only a few strategies/variations you can do at the top level. I don't call that fun. Both take skill, but I prefer low because I enjoy the variation of strategy and you have to consider the map pool >.<

Tell me when you will wake up, but dont wait to long because remember, kOOlam lives in Germany. ^^ We schedule it for the same time as the other showmatch bghers vs tl.net. They start that early (?).

the flashing is a glitch a few ppl are having... the count down is for tl vs bghers but teh k00lam/testie match is suppose 2 take place today as well. Cant wait for those replays! =)
"Err... did I miss the irony or something? He has to have amazing talent if he's a good player with only 400 games." He was aksed how many low money games hes played, hes a harcore BGH player, thus why they are using BGH and other low maps in 2 different bo7.
bw4ever in 2 hours, and bgh showmatch in um 4 or so? T_T Really sorry guys, all the race wars and tmm that's kept me up late at night this week has messed my sleeping pattern. I'll still try to play to my best though. Well, more like all the tmm and race wars since late december.. ;d
Now i'm stuck in some conversations so hrm. I'll either try to get some rest soon or pull the all-nighter thing and fight on.
On January 21 2007 03:15 thedeadhaji wrote: proleague finals yesterday didnt help either did it?
That was very worth it. Sea fighting. Though I was rooting for SKT myself. I umm, missed BWCL because of that though. MYM. lost to [media] 3-4... losing both 2v2's... But regardless, still worth it.
I was about to ask the policy on obs as well. Always funner to watch the games go down live. I imagine hundreds of people would want to obs each game though
On January 21 2007 13:17 useless wrote: Couldnt they have mixed it up? Id be tired as hell if I just played 4-7 games in a row, and probably wont be feeling 100% for low money maps.
Cool, at least Testie's doing well. I thought he'd have a little more trouble with the BGH games, but it's 1v1 after all, unlike those team games we got raped in.
Testie 4-1 Bgh Testie 4-3 Low maps. I lost in 1 ridiculous way. The other was suspect, the last was just me camping and getting crushed for it.
But, instead of sleeping i'm expecting you all to keep me constantly in a game so I don't pass out on op tl-west. I hate sleeping earlier than atleast 10 because then i wake up in the middle of the night. And that's never a cool thing. So everyone plays all night in op tl-west. >.<
Next time I play a match for tl.net, rather than playing to win i'll do my best to make the games more entertaining. aka super aggressive / no camping style etc. >.<
btw, you do not get to see kural showcase his real skill in this showmatch because he's a team player and I took advantage of that by simply early expanding / cannoning to gain an econ advantage & run over. If I had played straight up unit vs unit in a micro battle it's much more difficult to win vs him on BGH than how I played. Basically i'm saying he's more skilled than this showmatch shows.
After the 4-1 rout on BGH I didnt even expect the low money games to be close. 4-3? Thats an experience of 1,000,000 games (ok, I pulled this number out of my ass!) vs 200-400 games. Could kOOlam have been a player of savioresque skill had he devoted his starcraft career to low money games?
Someone was sleepy. Kural has better mechanics than most of the top foreigners and his raw skill is also a factor. There is a reason why he is so dominant on BGH.
When I said "get some sleep bro" I didn't mean it to disrespect koolam who is a very talented player. It's just... koolam openly admits to only playing 400 or so low-money games, is used to team-playing, and concentrates mostly on BGH, but then nearly beats Testie in bo7 1v1 low-money? That's insane! The low money maps were played after the BGH ones, right? And Testie openly admitted to having little or no sleep (less than 2 hours if any). I could only think that Testie was getting exhausted from lack of sleep and then playing many hours of starcraft.
I've watched many testie matches within this community and he simply dominates - and against players who concentrate on 1v1 low-money.
Anyhow, I very much look forward to watching these replays.
i think even if testie is damn tired playing 4-3 vs him is till impressive either way, and i think this koolam still doesnt get enough respect for his skills... altho maybe replays will show me wrong i doubt it...

Not to excuse for Testie's performance (good job winning by the way), but I personally find it less difficult to beat some of my low-money map friends, who are at my skill-level, than good money map players on a low-money map. With the former, I kind of know what to expect because of the strategies and styles that have become the "norm" after all these years.
Money map players are mostly macro-oriented, so it's hard to estimate how much defense you need rather than usual. For example, if you wall-in tvp, you expect the toss to tech to goons. Sometimes money players will do stuff like 3gate zealots, and if you underestimate it, it can break your wall. Perhaps that wasn't the best of examples, but the point is, I end up playing overly cautious vs them and end up playing worse than usual.

Chocolate melts in rahter low temperatures (depending of what type it is I guess) and since it melts in your hand I doubt that you would get burns.
Oh and on to topic. Suprising result on low, cant wait to se the reps. A nice thing for the bw community as a whole, this and the other TL vs BGH:ers showgame.
EDIT:Why on earth did I make a comment on chocolate and oral sex?
the question is how many games koolam would have won if testie had played zvp all games. dont try to kid anyone nick, we all know your tvp and pvp isnt as strong as your zvp
Wow the results are surprising. Most people are right in saying that few people would win 3 games in a BO7 series against Testie, not to mention against a player who plays high-money maps. Then to make it funnier, Testie wins the BGH series quite strongly. Amusing... I look forward to the reps!

Yea, but his PvP and TvP are still very strong, probably better than a large number of the "top" foreigners' PvP and TvP. I remember a Testie vs Tempest)IS( game where Testie somehow pulled a win out of his ass playing TvP (granted Tempest suicided a billion bazillion units into Testie's defense)

tempest plays one of the dumbest pvts in high level gaming, testie abused it perfectly.

Well yes, I agree...but he's still a good player. Sometimes brute force is good too
