Pimpest Plays Russian Style

In the last Advent Calendar I presented a door, which caused a lot of confusion and not small amount of laughter and hatred among Brood War fans a few years back. It was all about broodwar.de's contribution for the first April – the fake Pimpest Plays Highlight. Back then a few thousand people sat in front of their screens waiting thrilled to see what SCLegacy.com would present this time. The pimpest plays – usually ten or more chosen games – featured the best tricks and strategy of our finest players. Sadly, the project died down after 2007, even though material wasn't missing. As many other Brood War related traditions, it became a thing we cherished, but didn't expect to be continued. Especially after the foreign scene broke down with the start of the Wings of Liberty Beta in 2010 a legendary compilation of best VODs seemed out of place or simply not doable anymore.

However, there's still demand for „pimp“ plays. We all have heard the outcries of disappointed oldschool wannabes about progress and versatility being a thing of the old days exclusively. Only Koreans maybe would be fit enough to produce one or two interesting games, but, you know, ded gaem. This newschool bullshit was widely ignored by the Russians, as their scene still embraced Brood War. Consequently, they did not only dare to re-use the name „pimp“ for replay descriptions, but also actively went on a treasure hunt. The result: three small packs with funny and extraordinary games.

Ladies and Gentlemen, today's door is all about these games. To be perfectly clear, the packs do not really live up to the original, but that's not needed. You'll find games from Russians, fun games or more serious plays from tournaments, displaying a wide range of … „interesting“ games. There's an odd 2v2 The Stove & Nuke Rush combo, and there's also a desperate Zerg offering draws after 50 Minutes, only to see that some Protoss simply want to try a little longer. Since a part of the magic is not knowing what can be expected, we keep the list short and suggest you find out on your own.



Yet, one game we can give you as a VOD. It was played in April 2011 between the Spaniard ZaRaki and the Russian oldschool Protoss Tama. Back then Tama was without a doubt a lot stronger and more experienced than the Zerg, who barely hit a B ranking. ZaRaki wasn't too bad though, as this game is from the last set of the Defiler Tournament 13 Grand Finals. ZaRaki was behind 2-1, with 40$ on the line. Let's say some pressure was on for both players. Tama had the advantage, but for sure couldn't underestimate the Zerg anymore.
