Sorry if this has been posted, but has anyone else noticed that cal's starting up a cal starcraft league?

I this this has somethingto do with the start up of CPL Korea, since I'm sure they want starcraft there.

cal-i cs 1.6 is pretty much dead (all the teams left for CEVO), they're maybe trying to get a new public. But it's strange because cal/cpl have always been fps tournaments, totally ignoring rts games.

I wouldn't recommend playing in this league myself - this is actually the 2nd time CAL has had Starcraft.

The first time was 4 or 5 years ago, and they held a pre-season that my brother and I competed in. Immediately after that ended, they posted the main season had been delayed.... and that was the official word for weeks. So, after awhile of that, I went to visit the CAL website expecting to find the same stale newspost, only to be surprised to find it had finally changed! To the message of "Page not found". Ok....but when I randomly tried it at school, the page came right up.... it just lacked a Starcraft section now....

So, basically, the removed the entire section, didn't tell us, and the site automatically redirected those signed in to a portion of the site that no longer existed. Real nice of them - and as CAL doesn't offer prizes usually, I would recommend avoiding it.

CAL stands for cyberathlete amateur league, it's an online league owned by the CPL (cybertathlete profesional league)

cal is very big if you play counter-strike or other competitive fps. good players on public servers often get asked at what level of cal they competed at: the skill levels from lowest to highest goes cal-open, cal-intermediate, cal-main, cal-premier, cal-invite. this may have changed since i stopped playing cs competitively, i think there is no longer a cal-im and cal-m is much easier to get into now (the average player in cal-main used to be the pgtour starcraft equivalent of a B+ - A- player)

they are the amateur version of cpl (cyberathletic professional league) which may be more well-known, holding large tournaments which again draw mainly the eyes of the fps communities.

CAL is an online league which is pretty strong for the various incarnations of CS (1.6, CZ, Source) but for every other game it's pretty bad. As it has been around the longest it's what's used to determine skill, much like how people say they are B or A on pgtour, they would say what division they were or are in for CAL.

It's not a money league, and I doubt it will catch on for Starcraft. I imagine the skill level and activity will resemble what WGTour is currently like.

I will probably sign up for kicks because I'm CS:S Main but I don't expect it to last, because Starcraft leagues, even the online ones, pretty much require money to interest top players. Unlike CS where the only money that can be had is on LAN.

I'll predict that if it's an induvidual league it will fail, if it's a team league it might be fun for non top teams to take part in an organized league. And if that's the case I want to join a clan
when they really get to know you they will run

lol of course you cs fanboys would assume that cals only worthwhile for cs leagues. It's big with nearly every popular fps game, but yea, whenever it has rts leagues it's kind of a joke.

they have prize money for CPL. not for CAL.

so unless they decide to go as far as hosting starcraft CPL tournaments, no prizes. it makes sense though, since CAL is all online, they probably (most likely) wont even have anti-hack protection like PGT.
