I hope, one day, the entire corporate gaming industry as it exists today will lie in shambles. Broken, bankrupt, and bitter, destroyed by a revolution of Kickstarters, independent funding, and online distribution systems that decentralized the way games are made and sold and put the power back in the hands of the people this gaming shit belongs to: people who love games not money.

It's sad to see that there are only 7 pages discussing the end to this great game. When I think back I remember all of the good times I had playing, and the players I shared that time with. I began following the pro scene since 2002, through teamliquid, and the best of times was the era of Savior. Being a zerg player (and fan) was difficult before him, hoping that Chojja or Yellow could sneak a win from the great Terrans and Protoss of the time. Having Boxer bunker rush yellow three games in a row comes to mind as one of my more bitter e sports memories(I'm still a Boxer and Terran race anti fan because of the early brood war days). It seemed that zerg was always the underdog.

Remember when iloveoov had the sickest TvZ in the world and it seemed like no zerg would ever beat him? Then how about when July zerg beat him using extremely aggressive tactics? None of it compared to the dominance of Savior though. The way he man handled all of the competition of the time, something a zerg had never done before. My years of rooting for zerg was finally paying off.

I could keep going on about this great game; more importantly about those who played it, but there is so much content that it's overwhelming. Sadly, in 5,10, or 20 years from now no one will REALLY know (except for us diehards) what BW was.

My favorite BW memories were watching Savior beat Nada in the finals and teaching friend how to play competitive 1v1. He has passed but I often think about him.

It's not the end, its a new beginning. And as long as i love the game and find it interesting and have the people who share that with me, BW will never die for me. Let's not forget why we started playing this game - it wasnt because there were progamming, that was just a bonus. People like Boxer, Yellow, Reach, Chojja, Nada, Xellos, Grrr, Garimto, Savior, Iloveoov, Jaedong, Flash, Stork, Bisu, etc. made the game spicy and made us relate to somebody, but the truth for is that this game is embedded in my mind and allows me to challenge myself every time i play it.
I hope more people think this way instead of the grim "BW is gone for me now".

Bw was in my life since I was 9 or 10. I am now 21 and it is crazy to think that this game I have dedicated thousands of hours into is coming to an end. Gone are the days of hanging out in clan x17. Gone are the days of grinding ladder on wgtour,pgtour and iccup. And alas, gone are the days of watching the most talented esports talents play the hardest game on earth.

I doubt that will ever happen and i doubt that a remake from Blizzard would be as good as the original.

Farewell Broodwar. I admit that for the last couple years, even before SC2, I had stopped paying attention to you. Partially I lost interest, partially I was just too busy with other things. I'll miss the good times, I'll not forget the first time I discovered a replay of BoxeR.

To be fair, the pro broodwar players for the most part seem to disagree with that assessment. I'm pretty excited about watching them in a new game and seeing what kind of interesting stuff they can come up with.
