The Coach who notched KT Rolster’s 200th win: “The result of management, players, fans uniting as one.”
KT Rolster became proleague’s first ever team to win 200 matches. Established in 2003; coached by Jung Sooyoung, Kim Chul, and Lee Jihoon; and nearing 10 years in age, KT Rolster made history with its 200 wins.
After defeating Air Force ACE to get the 200th win, Coach Lee said, “It isn’t my sole accomplishment, but that of the company who supported the team for ten years, the trio of head coaches, the coaching staff who pour their souls into the team, and the united body of players. I think that makes it that much more meaningful.” He added, “I’ll work so that the name ‘KT Rolster’ paves the way to 300, 400 wins.”
Q: You notched the team’s 200th win. A: This season we had a bunch of team records flying everywhere. I won my 100th match, and Flash won his personal 200th win. And, at the very end of round 2, the team won its 200th. I think it’ll be a season with a lot of meaning for us.
Q: You’ve been playing so well you’ve cemented your place in the post-season semis A: I don’t think of it that way. The only immediate goal is to get to the post-season. Since we have experience winning in grand finals once we get to the post-season I think the players will take over and do their thing. I think the 3loss streak at the beginning was good for us.
Q: You’ve been steamrolling all your opponents lately A: We haven’t gone 5 sets a single time in our last 10 matches. That’s due to our determination to finish matches [before it goes 5]. It’s a huge blow to lose a 5th set. Therefore, I try to make matchups that can finish matches quickly.
Q: Were the player transfers effective A: I definitely think I need to watch over Mind, Wooki, and PerfectMan for a little bit. But they’re filling the seats of the players who left after last season’s finals victory.
Q: Any difficulties deciding your match entries A: It’s definitely hard to send out newer players. Sending out BarrackS today was one of those cases. It’s not an easy choice to send out players who are very good in practice but lack live match experience. It’s a dilemma that not just my team but all teams have to deal with. Still, in the future I’m going to send out more inexperienced players.
Q: Your prospects on winning it all A: In the very first match I said my goal was not to be a joke and tumble to last place, so to have that losing streak left a bitter taste in my mouth. It was my players that pulled through to bail me out of that disaster. This time I won’t be caught off guard. We’ll be deliberate and build up our wins match by match.
Q: I want to hear your thoughts on the 200th win A: The 200 victories were only possible because Kwon Sa-ihl, Lee Gun-do, Choi Man-gyu, and the other executives at KT have always given us their financial and emotional support. The manager, Lee Gil-man, also guided the players very well. Also, Kim Sung-jong’s father-in-law passed away so I want to offer my condolences. The fans were the greatest force in us getting to 200 wins. I hope they’ll continue to cheer for us in the future. We’re going to run past 200 towards 300, or even 400 wins.

This is why I am sad that we don't have bo7 anymore, its so hard to get inexperienced players to play, and when they do they often get crushed and the team can't make up for it(Entus as of late)
Either way, Congrats, well deserved.

Thanks alot for the interview, really apprecaited to have a (small) look into the mindset of the coach

Thanks for the interview, quite a milestone I must say ! I think they could have tried to ask a bit more question but that was a fine read regardless.

Thank you, and congrats to KT! In other news: i read today in lonely planet that KT is run by a "alpha-female", the youngest girl to ever graduate from MIT. Just some fun facts for ya

lol I forgot PMan was still playing, now that he's in KT maybe Flash can teach him how to play protoss... Seriously this guy was pretty much the worst player last year

KT rapin' left and right.
It would be nice if BarrackS comes a little bit more on televised matches. I just feel like he has so much potential but just fail to deliver due to nerves. Also, get rid of Wooki and PerfectMan.

send out wooki more often :O

As much as I want to rip on the KT guys but I must say that from what I have seen, Wooki have some sensational plays in his arsenal. He always loses to gay rushes but overall his play is rock solid. If I am Lee Jihoon, I wouldn't do that.

More of the less known players. Rookie time!

Because having the same guys winning the only BW tournament is helping the scene to flourish.

Agreed, that's one of the main downfalls of a Bo5 format. While it gives 'weaker' teams a chance of making playoffs, it comes at the cost of developing raw talent. And with less games played and no MSL, it's not a bright future for rookies

Why would you get rid of Wooki? Have you even looked at people he's played against? Wooki is one of the most promising rookies

He'd definitely take out Bisu in a straight up PvP + Show Spoiler +With Bisu's PvP a joke this season Yeah guess I should've thought that one over And to all PerfectMan haters, go read that interview. EDIT: posted before I was done Also, thanks for the interview I kinda don't want to see KT win the finals again this season, just for a bit of change, kind of like Jangbi and the OSL Come on CJ vs T8 finals

As a Liverpool and SKT1 fan, I have grown all too used to the feeling of being bested by your greatest rival.
But as a fan of the sport and the people who make it all possible above all, congratulations, KT Rolster, you are an amazing team, and what an incredible run to stand head and shoulders above all pretenders after what had been an abysmal start when everyone counted KTFlash out sans Ace Match.

Thanks for translating. I'm really appreciate it
Congratulation KT for 200th win. KT fighting!!!!!!!

Thanks for the great interview! :D Ppl say things about KT as an one-man team but in the end they're still a solid bunch

Wooki is damn good.

Coach Lee doesn't say anything that isn't pretty self-evident though. Pretty generic questions and answers.

Ummm KT has the most underrated line-up right now. Flash and Stats form an absolutely wicked 1-2 punch, you have Mind and Action who are kind of off-and-on (Mind in particular was looking pretty scary during mid 2011), and then several developing talents.
I really don't think it's fair to say that Flash alone is carrying KT on his back. Although he is obviously the star player, it really hasn't been true in a while, starting in WL of last year where Violet and Stats were putting up such phenomenal results that Flash often wasn't even needed.
By contrast, look at SKT: on paper they are one of the strongest if not the strongest team with 2 S-class players and a decent supporting line-up of mixed snipers, but in reality they struggle to achieve 3 wins because they rarely have more than 1 or 2 player(s) performing consistently at any given moment.

Gratz to KT, their players and coaching stuff. I hope that coach Lee will in fact send rookies, since it's the most important thing in developing the scene. Although, i'm agreed that it would be much better for BW as a whole if KT do not win their 3rd PL in a row. I would even go further and say that it would be better if KT and SKT couldn't make it to the finals (it hurts to say that since i do like these teams the most). Maybe some Khan vs CJ finals, please?
Also just wanted to add that no way KT is a 1-player team lol

Besides if you remember well enough KT was deemed the weakest team in last year's playoffs in comparison to other teams: Flash was struggling with injury, Stats was slumping, Action was shitty as always and the rest were unreliable.

Totally agreed. That statement (call it KTFlash) does not stand true right now and for the last year or so (from the 2010-2011 round 3) atleast, i think.

It's a bit like FvJ, when there is too much of it you wish for something else, and when you see that something else, you wish for FvJ...

Thanks for the translation. His words seem very genuine and honest. I can't wait till KT gets 300 wins!

I still remember at the beginning of this season kt performance was really that bad and till the extent as a fan . I started calling out on coach lee here again I want to apologised for my childish behaviour . On another note I think we have a good shot at the finals this year .
As kt comprising of a Ace terran Flash who is currently undefeated and posting a score of 10-0 in the current proleague . Basically we can just assumed that we have already one game already sealed in our hand and have to work on other players to get the job done . He is the ace card of kt after all I hope Coach lee will use flash well to snipe down the other team's ace player and by doing that I hope it will demoralized the other team's morale .
Mind is still a very dangerous terran to mess with despite him posting up some bad games which all come down's to minor mistakes .It's too easy to assume mind is not going to perform however currently he has been winning games and if he continues to perform we will probably won't have to rely much on our zerg line to bring us home the big points .
Action looks like a very strong candidate for sniping terran's with his great late game mechanics current matches has shown that he has quite a solid mid game transition to late game with his good muta micro and flanking skills . I have no doubt that if Action is able to reach the late game in every games he played he's going to dominate every opponent that he meets .
Stat's also despite having lost his confidence is still one of the guys that kt has learn to rely on because he is just that damn good . Despite Bogus being the thorn in his shoes, I have the utmost confident that if they meet again stats will definitely will win this time because he is just the type of player who isn't happy with unfinished business.
Wooki is playing really well in every matches even taking down notable zergs like zero and showed some serious skills in PvP and PvZ despite the occasional fail to Terran as seen in the game with Baby . He looks like a strong contender and candidate to field out in every games .
Regardless of other views on kt as seen in the "suckabowl" thread where everyone predicted stx and kt to be at last place. KT despite leading in terms of ranking as they are number one right now they can't stop and let the other teams to catch up to them and have to ride on this momentum to reach the finals and as a fan we need to win the proleague finals for the third time in the name of competition and pride.
