Foreigner All-Star Team recruitement for Korean Clanleague
Hi!
Recently I was contacted by a representative from the Korean website Bbulsori. They are organising a team league and would like a Foreigner All-Star Team to take part. I got into contact with iCCup.dayfly who has been functioning as a translator for us. From what we've gathered, these are some of the details:
32 teams will partake (including Minus, Kal, Shield, Ever, White, n.Die)
Matches are played 6v6, Winner's League format.
Maps are La Mancha, Neo Aztec, Circuit Breakers, Neo Bloody Ridge and Fighting Spirit.
32 teams are placed in 8 groups of 4, top 16 advance.
Matches are played Mon/Wed/Thur/Sunday (the organiser agreed to let the foreign team play on Sundays) at 20:00 KST (that's noon CET). Server is either Fish or Brain (not sure yet)
So, iccup.Dayfly (Hyeon) and me are going to try and make a Foreign All-Star team and we're going to use this topic to recruit people. The tricky thing is the playtime, which is really bad for any American players. If you are a top player (think about performance in TSL, ISL, GC, Defiler tours etc), can make it at this time, and are interested in playing in this, please post below.
We need to field 6 players, so we’re looking to recruit about 8 to 10, so that we have some leniency if people can’t make the time.
- Conflicts with Defiler (and possibly other tournaments).
It's a tricky thing that all the tournaments are on the weekend. And whereas I feel on one hand that we should try to rally together as a foreign scene to show these Koreans what we're made of, this also includes that I don't want to impose this project on others. I'll see if I can talk to the relevant people, but I don't want to ask for a a delay of tournament A in favour of tournament B.

Definitely on the list of people we'd like to see involved. They should be getting contacted but if anyone else sees them around please point them here. This also goes for other players that you feel should be reading this. Please give them the link to this topic
- Abuse and BM
I talked to Dayfly and we won't allow any known hackers/cheaters/abusers on the team. Also we will not tolerate BM. I agree that, as representatives of the whole of the foreign community, we should behave properly (no matter if BM is "international"). If a player BMs their opponent, the opposing team, the organiser, or fellow teammates they will be kicked off the team and, should any money be won, forfeit all rights to a share of it. (People who know me know I'm quite anal about BM, but as we have a representative role to fill I feel these terms are quite reasonable). edit: looks like their rulebook forbid any in-game talking.
Not to be belittle you guys in the slightest but i think it would be really helpful if you had someone really good with a lot of experience and knowledge of who would be best for such a thing (Someone like LRM)nOoNe or one of the other team managers etc)
Wow, that's great oO Really hope to see that coming to fruition, definitely need Sziky and Michael too. A bit afraid to see one-sided game, but that should motivate people even more.
We better pull the big guns out for this one. Gotta show the Koreans that foreign BW isn't a joke. Good luck to all those that play for the Foreign All-Star team!

So.. Kidcanada and Sziky is your team?
Heh... Ladder isn't the only thing to consider. I mean, look at KC's tournament win rate, doesn't quite hold up to his ladder win rate. IMO, players need to be just picked by an experienced team leader, even then I don't see much of a chance for the team, but it'll be nice to see them play.
Also, @pholon, you should consider getting some broadcast times + casters to broadcast foreign games. Also, would be good if the team was sponsored, then you could get the players to practice more!!
@dsaqwe if you can't get your 6-8 best to show up week in and week out, might as well not play at all.
iccup ranks dont really show skill..cause there many nubs b+ a-.. anyway @ Phyrigian, sziky was 1450pts on fish this season, kidca is best like 1400, pro7ect 1400 i think, and i was 1380 (dont know about other nonkors, but i saw some b+ a- mass games 1100).. so pls dont talk nonsense.
This is the best opportunity for a player to play the cream of the crop. The teams participating have some sick players (on their roster at the very least). I mean who wouldn't love to get a chance to have a game against minus)Eagle (if he were to play)? I hope we can get someone to cast this, as this team will more or less represent the foreign community as a whole.

This is sick. WL format is gonna make it difficult haha. Clan By. should have it easily if they can get their progamers playing it. Imagine a lineup of Flash, Fantasy, Hydra, Baby, Snow, Sun. I'm really looking forward to watch this, I've always found Korean clan wars very interesting.
Also let me know if you need any reps of the clans you are facing. I can compile a rep pack fo the players in the clans so that you can study their play easily.
- Getting an experienced coach / I want to help This is being worked on. Right now the primary goal is to get a good team together. Representing the Foreign Scene is fun and all, but we need the best players in order to even stand a bit of a chance. If you'd like to offer yourself as a coach or want to help out in general please feel free to drop me a pm
- Can we get more than 8 players? I imagine so. I'd like to get 8-10 players, plus then some backups. Maybe having an A and B team would be good. The tricky thing is that the playtime is really tricky. Noon Europe/6AM Eastern on a Sunday with a 6v6 that could run on for I don't know how many hours. People won't be able to make it etc so it'd be nice to have backups.
- Get player X to play. Pretty much every name put forward in the thread is being contacted. If you see them around please feel free to give them the link here.
- Broadcast? Not sure about this yet. It'll be broadcast on Afreeca as far as I know. Multiple foreign casters have shown interest in casting this and of course I'll try to make this happen. We'll need to talk to the organisers first. Also it's not quite what this topic is for. Maybe not get your hopes up just yet o.o

It is WL format, you can shorten this list to single Flash.
As far as I know/remember it progamers usually don't appear before finals in those clan leagues (if at all), but those teams have some freakin' good b-teamers and practice partners. I'm not really into the scene anymore but I'm really interested in how the foreigners do. Hopefully you can gather the strongest possible team. I sure am watching this.
This would be amazing to follow i must say. And i must say that im not that pessimistic about the chances - if team world can field a team with the 10 best players im sure we have a good shot. Not at winning ofc, but at not ending dead-last. There are 32 teams, some of them are bound to be not-megasuperpro. Also; the surprise of non-korean strategies! I dont think they have even heard of the stove, and that´ll be sure to win us some games ^^ (And DAMN pholon you really keep yourself busy dont you? Keep up the good work!!)
Im down but i dont know if i will be able to show up to every clanwar mainly because of the time. and on a realistic note we are going to have a very slim chance of even winning a single cw they are consisted of full of 1500+ monsters..;( and yes, we will definitely need Sziky.

Or we could just go team cheese because the koreans will assume we suck anyway, and most of our players are macro types. This won't work if we add oya, jumper, michael, ect.

According to the forums I read in the past, BW died at least 6 times without my knowledge.

Sure, bm is not good, but in a situation where we possibly cannot exclude facing players on the other side with similar possible misbehavior in the past, it would be wise to keep our eyes and options open. and lets be honest - he is really darn good at the game.

Oh come on its not that bad. I mean hiya on his stream even got bored. Made multiple accounts on fish because he got bored when he reached 1500+ rating as there were so few people to play with him. At the top, it is always lonely, even in Korea.

sziky, ace, kashu (yes, that's the top3 ISL2). Besides that I guess Pro7ecT, Bakuryu, Michael, kolll, sneazel other good candidates would be kidcanada, pallmall, mazur, pike
We see mostly zergs dominate the foreign scene lately, either be it that most of the other top players are not that great against Zerg or our zergs are really that strong;)

Sziky/Ace/Pro7ecT/KiDCanada/Pike/Michael are the best foreigners imo. That would be the sickest lineup you guys could get . TechnicS or dsaqwe as backup would be nice too.
I hope the foreign team wreck some koreans :D. And as Lumire said, you should get someone who is really good at managing/organizing the team.

I doubt there will be any progamers playing, and definitely not any top players.
Nonetheless, I think the foreign team will probably be the weakest team in the league. It'll be tough. Good luck.

btw, I don't think TeamLiquid would be okay. People could think TeamLiquid is actually associated with the team, which it isn't. As mentioned, it's not a team of TeamLiquid, so it shouldn't wear a name like that.
Also I'd love to see scan play.. he'd probably lose but he'd definitely put up a fight. I don't think it would be like the embarassment we saw in wcg (like where jaedong beat a protoss with his first 6 lings)
Well my comment earlier about ladder ranking had something behind that said, high win ratio with no dodging... i think thats pretty credible information of a good player? But yes, we should look more towards how well some players do in tournaments and in big scenes.
But this is sad that it is winners league format.. their ace can just shut us down 6-0 every game pretty much. So I think it is a good idea to include exceptionally good snipers for specific race too, who is good overall as well.

Who knows, maybe the powers that be would lend support to something like this?
EDIT: GosI[Terran] has his issues, but he was a pretty decent BW player. I'll never forget that sick game against JF on outsider; so much fun. Too bad he plays SC2 now.
BTW, is Infernal still playing? I haven't been folloving BW that much over the last year, so I don't have any idea. I only know that he played in WCG 2010.
On the note of protoss foreigners being weak, you guys should really play on Fish because the protoss koreans on fish are very scary I think also the sniper is pointless because if you are weak in other matchups, the korean teams will most likely have a better sniper with some pretty timed builds as they practice much more religiously. The best candidates are the ones who are best all round, cheesy play and what-not is fine as long as you can do it vs all races.

For a name how about LA- like Last Alliance from Lord of the Rings.
It's the alliance of Men (Americans/Canadians), Elves (Europeans), and Hobbits (other nations) putting aside their differences to defeat the Korean hordes of orcs, goblins and cave trolls.
The team captain can even give a speech before the series like the one from the third LOTR movie: "Arise! Arise from your beds at 4 in the morning! Fingernails shall be shattered, schoolwork shall be skipped- a zerg day, a 150 apm day, ere the milk falls upon their heads!

I don't think you understood my point.
They will have their ace players who are far far far better than whatever team we will form, so if you don't want to get all-killed 6-0, you might want a stopper sent out to relieve 1 game at least... I don't know if you actually expect foreign player to win more than 1 game in a row, but honestly speaking, i think that will be quiet difficult, and if that is the case, its wise to have someone who might have the best chance at stopping opponent's streak. By the way, they will expect you to be cheesy... and they will take that into account.
Just think about winners league in proleague, CJ keeps players like Skyhigh in their line up to be sent out against strong terran player. Why not foreign team?

he was already above 1400 this season i thnik he can make 1500 or more
There's this Altitude team called "Lobstars" (lobbing is a technique in the game that can win you games if you're good at it - they were pretty good at it) and their tag was L* (so L*Pholon). Thought that was pretty cute - maybe we can be F*
If we call the team Teamliquid (TL) we will have a main sponsor for the team :p (on the otherhand, as far it seem to be, this is teamliquid-community-only-organzied..so why not..)

Maybe the name should reference the fact that this team is comprised of people who haven't made the move to SC2 but stayed loyal to BW. A fitting toung-in-cheek name that hints at this could perhaps be: LastLoyalLegion, or LastLoyalLegionnaires.

Something less pessimistic is probably better. If we were gonna go down those lines it would be... IDK, New Hopes, or something along those lines.
I think it's better just to think of a generally snappy name, rather than a particularly symbolic one. I think the Pirates of Space thought is more along the right lines, though obviously they cant be called that. Or can they..?
A TeamLiquid themed one would be not so good, imo.

Haha wow this sounds interesting. Haven't watched foreign BW in a long time so this will be fun. A team of Ret, Idra, Nony + others would have been amazing if this had been hosted before sc2 .

Why would he be better than me if he doesn't play anymore? Also, we're picking players who are good AGAINST KOREANS, not against other foreigners, and last time I checked I have 2 accounts over 1300 on fish, where the only other foreigners who are holding that are sziky and michael...

3) The launcher
When you first open Minilauncher you have to update it. It will automatically request this, so you just just have to click yes (Y) and it will start updating.
Next thing you wanna do is get the servers: Go to the "Tool"-tab. Here you'll see three buttons at the bottom. These are the three major Korean servers: Brainclan, Fish and Mapzine. In ISL2 you're gonna be playing on the Fish server - so click that button!
Now go the the "Launcher"-tab. This should look fairly familiar to you. You can select the plugins you want. The ones you MUST have checked are: [MINI] for 1.16.1 (Anti hack) Chaosplugin for 1.16.1 (Auto replay etc.) LatencyChanger for 1.16.1 (Allows you to play in low latency games)
Changes the latency on BNet-games which end on #LL or #L1 ... #L5 #LL sets latency to 2 (like on Lan) #L1 ... #L5 sets latency to the supplied number For LAN-games use the settings. On LAN the settings have to be the same or all players Only works if ALL players in the game have LatencyChanger, else you will get disconnects
Before you can start starcraft through the launcher, it must know where starcraft is installed. If you choose to find it manually (faster if you know where it is), you need to find the file "StarCraft" inside your StarCraft folder.

Anyone who is or is not on the team should work together regardless so the people who end up representing us will perform their best. So if anyone has some decent strategies that are map based and per match-up based you should probably input some of the general ideas and try to contact some of the players who may play for us during the clan-war.

It is their first match of this tournament, I would think any serious team will put some effort into practicing for it(It is a big tournament) and they would look like fools if they lost due to not practicing for it. I wanna do one last training session tonight after Gambit Cup. Would like to try and start somewhere between Midnight and 1AM CET, same channel as before, and then bleed into a more USA/CA friendly time so those people can show up too. I'll ask Hyeon/Legacy to take over the training from me when us euros start slacking off. Think it'll be the last training since Saturday will be busy with the ANW.
On Sunday I want to meet up at 11AM CET to play some warmup games before the real match starts at 12. I'm unsure as to what server the games will be played on. I suggest we gather on Fish (op FAT) and can move over later if needed. Take into account that we might have to play on West (so if you don't have a legal copy of BW (SHAME ON YOU), now might be a good time). Also make sure you have an account with the FAT/Fat/fAt tag as that will be required.
Kolll we'd be happy to have you onboard. I think we can still add people to the roster (if only cause we didn't have a set one to begin with and had to muster one in little less than 2 weeks).

You guys should know that Arew doesn't really play BW anymore, he plays and streams mostly SC2 now adays, would be cool if he came back for this though
