The Jin Air Starleague finals have been announced to be held at Yongsan's War Memorial, in the Peace Square section of the area.

(some stuff from how ogn believes the place is significant, in seoul etc etc).

The idea of the war memorial was first brought up in 1990, with it opening in 1994.

I cant imagine a BW Nation War between North and South Korea XD in the future resulting from this OSL.

cool. I hope a good lot of South Koreans make a show. At least that way OGN will feel they still have a huge fanbase that are interested in SC. (why mbc... why!)

It sounds like a pretty unusual place to hold a final for a video game, lets see how it turns out in reality.

That's a really beautiful spot. My only worry is that someone at OGN is picking this as an "appropriate" spot for what they already know will be the last OSL.

But this is no time for paranoia. It should be a fantastic event and here's to many more to come.

It's such a weird place for a video game tournament, especially a war game. Pretty, though. And open air, so they'll get a good crowd.

People normally bring black umbrellas to memorials (in movies especially haha, in real life there are usually tents set up)

A war memorial seems like a strange place to be playing a BW tournament but the venue looks great. I love the open air venues and there is plenty of space for fans.

WeMade, MBC and the other team whose name I cant really remember right now would be like "Holy shit, why did we ever made the decision to abandon BW!!?!?!?!?!?!" Like seriously the whole place can probably hold WAY more audience than the PL final.

No, this is the perfect place to remember what will happen lol
Years and years later children would be like "Hey lets go watch some Brood War over there and oh yeah.....it's also a war memorial!"

Yeah, don't even come near these if you didnt watch them live.

While on one hand I'd be concerned that this would be a bit inappropriate and disrespectful (a war memorial, place of solemn reverence), I also think it's a really cool venue, and is a great way to generate interest in History in the minds of the new Generation. Looks really cool and I'm really glad + Show Spoiler [OSL SPOILEURS!!1!!] +

That's cool Brood War representing the wars of Tomorrow at a memorial for the wars of yesterday.

What an ironic place for Fantasy to lose/win

Truth be told, I'm fine with either Pantaji winning or Jangbanger winning. I'd prefer the Banger winning but I'd be happy with both. I wish more finals where like this

I found this to be a huge spoiler of the games, Thanks.

This place looks pretty awesome. I can't wait for the finals.

edit: Just finished reading through the thread. I only glanced at it this morning. Can a mod put a spoiler warning for OSL results in the thread title. Usually there is better moderation for this kind of thing.

Just remembered. Jangbi made it out of the Tiebreakers in this OSL. He just might be able to perpetuate the "person who makes it out of tiebreakers wins the OSL" phenomenon.

Reading this thread, I just realized how warped my sense of perspective on things are now due to the incredibly screwed up media.

Let's see....

1. War Memorial
2. War video game
3. Impressionable teenagers
4. One finalist with the nickname terrorist associated with Bin Laden

Can you imagine how Fox News would respond if something like this happened in the US?

I think he can win 3-1 or 3-2. NBR is played twice, but he needs to only win on it once. La Mancha and Gladiator aren't ideal for PvZ, but I think JangBi can pull of victories there. Pathfinder is a given loss though.

We're not assuming he'll lose so much as hoping he'll lose. SoO's best match up against Jangbi's worst match up. As one of the six dragons, Jangbi has a special place in my heart. Most people don't like rookies beating established players. Remember when Flash first came onto the scene?

Is it really appropiate to hold a video game final at a war memorial site?

I don't approve...also for every other sport.

I mean this is a site honoring fallen soldiers in war. Imagine the upset if you'd hold a counterstrike event at 9/11memorial or KZ site in germany. i consider myself pretty indifferent to most things but if i'd were to approve such events a memorial site would be a no-go.

Yeah, I had Rushingwolf's reaction too when I first read the news but after finding out it's used as a venue for other spectator events as well, I can buy the idea that holding events there might get people who would not otherwise visit a war memorial to perhaps take a glance or more.

interestingly, this place is extremely close to the main entrances of a huge U.S. military base, on the same street actually.

As for thr remarks that it is not apropriate, on paper, true, but Koreans have been using that area for various things, including a cosmos space camp/tour.

Seems like an odd place to hold the finals to a video game tournament.

Oh well, I suppose if you think about it, just the mere fact that a country pretty much cut in half and torn apart can hold such great tournaments years later.

It's nice.

Say what you will, I dont think Fantasy deserves it
Ez group, ez RO8, kinda ez semis (though he played really well, I must admit)
Fantasy must fall. For the greater good.
JangBi will go the finals.

The maps were more imbalanced for JangBi than they were for Hydra and the former managed a 3-0. Hydra cannot cry maps.

Fantasy went 3-0 in an all terran group. In a group of all mirror, it is so unlikely to go 3-0 because of various cheeses, BO wins, etc.

Jangbi on the other hand pretty much got most losses for making it to a semi final of an osl. He's very lucky to be there and that's why i think Fantasy deserves it more.

Hydra is a fantastic player. the maps were bullshit, I do agree on that, but Hydra himself is a fantastic player.

Dont blame the maps, hydra is a great player he just played like crap in that series

So you would argue, using that logic, that GGPlay didn't deserve his OSL win?

this applies to PvP and ZvZ, but not to TvT. Also, Sea traditionally does bad in SL, and both Hiya and Soo are just bad vT. Jangbi's only luck was when killer beat Calm in the last round. He had the misfortune of running into Flash, which should count more.

Fantasy has had a pretty easy ride, too, getting a very easy kill in the ro8 vs Hyuk. It's all subjective. Jangbi winning his last 5 in a row (2 vs Flash, 3 vs SoO) is super impressive.

Of course Jangbi will win. I don't care about him Fantasy having great TvP or he beat Stork or even Iloovie will be helping him. Jangbi has really turned up his A game and if he can play as good vs Soo or Flash I have confidence in him. Remember all of the fallen Dragons will unite behind him.

Heck I can even see Bisu betraying his team mate so we can see a Protoss win an OSL since what? Stork at Incruit 2008 (if NuketheStars youtube page and my BW face recognizing skills are ok.)

All I want to see is Fantasy to get Jangbanged by storms.

PS: Nukethestars is awesome.
