Wow! That's a lot of *updated blood! She'll be better in no time!
|
Blood is not a cure; she needs a liver transplant.

Good job KT! Way to go!
SOMEBODY fix her up with a liver.
|
Uuh. This is going to sound grim, but I'm not joking.
For her to get a liver, does that mean **ahem** someone has to die? I'm not too knowledgeable on the matter, but I'm working under the assumption that you can't function without a healthy liver...
Do livers from old people work just as well when transplanted to young patients? Or are livers from other young people more optimal? Or is the age of the liver irrelevant, and comparability the only important issue?

As far as I know (and I could be very wrong), it's possible for a compatible donor to donate a part of their liver, as the liver regenerates.
Got this off Wikipedia:
In a typical adult recipient LDLT, 55 to 70% of the liver (the right lobe) is removed from a healthy living donor. The donor's liver will regenerate approaching 100% function within 4–6 weeks, and will almost reach full volumetric size with recapitulation of the normal structure soon thereafter. It may be possible to remove up to 70% of the liver from a healthy living donor without harm in most cases. The transplanted portion will reach full function and the appropriate size in the recipient as well, although it will take longer than for the donor.

how does someone that young get ALF of this kind? which they described as a "...potentially reversible condition, the consequence of severe liver injury.
someone poisoned her or she takes illicit substances or drinks herself to death daily.

Statistically it's most likely an acetaminophen (active ingredient of tylenol) overdose, it doesn't take that much to cause severe liver damage (especially if she had reduced liver function from something else like hepatitis or alcoholism or something)

Any updates on her?
