I grabbed IdrA for a really quick interview yesterday regarding his hillariously amazing OSL performance, beating Gorush and 1-2 vs Jaehoon after playing no SC1 for months.

IdrA's OSL run!

So when he's got nothing to lose, he actually does pretty well. But isn't OSL becoming OS2L soon? GLHF!

What Jaehoon did was lame, but cmonnn proxy gates at least requires more balls than some girly proxy chrono-boosted warp-in gayness. Also goons require more skill than immortals.

SC1 Protoss > SC2 Protoss

Nice interview.

Sounds to me like he was really calm.
I mean- I'm sure still nervous. But, playing, sounds like he was playing without expecting anything.
Maybe something to remember in the future man- you're secure as a progamer and just play for fun as much as you can.

I totally agree that you should play less than 12 a day. Maybe 10 with a period of like exercise and relax in between. Wonder if that would ever happen.

Congratulations man.

Jaehoon's overall win-ratio

To be fair, yes Jaehoon isn't really great, but he's still a solid 50-50 player who often shows up in MBC's PL roster.

It's funny how things like this work out. You can leave any sport/competition for a little while, let your brain relax after intense training, and on special occasions you'll come back and do better (i'd bet a large part is because of the lack of pressure you put on yourself).

Great job Idra.

Pretty sure he's gonna stay with CJ for SC2. maybe come back while Beta is down? But he's still a progamer.

I just checked. It's down on my end, and downforall can't see it either. I think that means it's effectively down for most, if not all, of the 'net.

He didn't perform well because he was refreshed and could focus from taking a break from Brood War, he won because Starcraft at that skill level is entirely luck based and he has been extremely misfortunate up until now.

And the more I watch these two gentlemen interact, the more it seems like Artosis' bad manner wickedness rubs off on Idra, not the other way around like I had initially thought.

You cannot be serious. Entirely luck based? Then how on earth do you explain that there are varying levels of skill and win ratio, you mean to tell me the difference between Jangbi and Jaehoon is that Jangbi gets luckier more consistently? Or that Flash is just an amazing lucky guy in 70-90% of his games. Nope, just doesn't make sense.
Does luck play a role in StarCraft, absolutely. But to say that StarCraft is entirely luck based at the pro level is just absurd.

And, congrats to IdrA on his accomlishment; great to see a foriegner still working hard at it in Korea, keeping the dream alive for the rest of us!

12 hours a day is really too much. Artosis talks about how its completely ridiculous and hes right. But the coaches and general culture have such a hardcore attitude on it that they dont realize this.

GJ. But it seems quite logical as Idra is known to easily choke against players he considers at least equal or even better (of course only if he really longs to win, not like in this case).

Even though he probably won't read this or even more likely doesn't care I would nevertheless strongly recommend him to work with a psychologist or w/e on his mental "stability" (this word is a bit strong, I know, "mindset" could be more fitting). I am aware that that this will be quite difficult being in Korea, but as I assume that he is trying to become a SC2 pro this should be one of his major concerns.
Better to reduce the amount of training and to improve his mindset. It will be worth the money I am sure.

Idra played better prolly because of less pressure.

Also, at this skill level, unless you're really above everyone you're facing, games can just go either way.

Qualifying for OSL has always been a fucking roulette for 90% of its participants.

That's how hard BW is.

Totally agree with IdrA, practicing 10 hours a day is counterproductive, just like studying 10 hours for a test is counterproductive.

I'm not saying I disagree, but you need to be extremely careful in who you choose to work with. Sports psychology is a very difficult topic, especially if you've never been an athlete yourself, and a lot of sports psychologists aren't that good.

This proves that non-stop practicing is overrated. It also proves that playing 'noob' games like SC2 is good training for SC1. =)

Good job Idra, I really agree on the over-practicing topic, its not good for your mental state nor physical state to sit infront of a pc 12 hours a day and just practice.

Jaehoon is behind pretty much every PvT opening of the last 2 years or so, so yeah... It's safe to say that he just falls to pressure.

Impressive skill showcase from IdrA! GZ and best of luck on SC2!

nice interview. although it was hard to understand at times due to the background noise.
One time that happened and I just stopped everything, selected the offending SCV, hit Cancel, moved it over to my Barracks, made a Marine, had the Marine shoot it to death, then left the game.

Impressive! Good work idra.

Just imagine if he would have that kind of mindset for every game he played....

Thanks for yet another great video Artosis. I really enjoy your "inside videos" with progamers/managers and such. Any chance you'll be doing more progamer and wannabe-progamer(Forgot what they're called. Basicly a practice house without a sponsor) house videos? I liked them a lot.

artosis found it both funny and hilarious, but not enough to laugh..

artosis always ruins otherwise good interviews by talking too much ><

At least start labeling it a "conversation" or something instead of an "interview". When you interview someone you let THEM explain how much theyve practiced instead of saying how much theyve practiced and asking "..right?"

Congrats Idra, you deserve the win. =P

I think that being relaxed had a lot to do with it, especially because nerves play a big role in games.

I would've preferred IdrA to get into the OSL than Bisu getting out of his slump, and that's saying a lot. It would've been so great.

Damn you Jaehoon, you gay Protoss >:O

Why is SCforall always so damned slow? It takes like 2 hours for the videos to load.

Hey Artosis, Gay doesn't mean bad. Stop using it in that context. I try to watch your videos but it is really hard to sit through you asking questions like "what is gayer" and "how gay was that." You're a smart guy Artosis, come up with a better word.

I agree. Artosis, using gay as a derogatory word really doesn't fit in with your (otherwise) totally professional image.

awesome
I wonder how was the reaction from the other CJ members and the coach.

I like artosis interviews, I only hope he can get a mic or something so the background noise is not so loud.
Part of the inhumanity of the computer is that, once it is competently programmed and working smoothly, it is completely honest.

huh? i dont get it, i think your SC skill would improve after playing SC2 for a long time(for zergs IMO) cause the game is so much faster in SC and if you manage to micro those speedlings( at least not rely on the new ai-surround system) then it you would really improve playing.

How about "faggy?"

Na I'm just kidding, totally unprofessional.

Also, I'm genuinely impressed and surprised at Idra's performance in the OSL. It really got me thinking about how 12-hour work day probably isn't in the best interest of anybody involved.
good vibes only
