Anyways, why is it that we still need a player of each race on our team. Since WL doesn't have the one of each race rule, shouldn't FPL be modified to encompass this as well?
Shouldn't I be allowed to trot out a lineup of say Best, Bisu, Jangbi, Stork, Kal, and Free if I wanted to, as it technically would be allowed in WL?

Luxury Chaos Theory: Origins
FPL1: Luxury Price: $6, expected to score ~30 points

Luxury Alternator Theory is born. Luxury will alternate values between good and bad every round. Unlucky owners have chosen wrong FOUR straight times on him, but now, finally, they know what to expect. He's just had a good season, so he's due for a bad one. Many owners put him on their anti team.
FPL5: Luxury Price: $5, expected to score ~25 points
Luxury goes 7-2, scores 34 pts, actually exceeding last round's projection (price to $6)
In true Luxury fashion, he does the most inconsistent, unpredictable thing for Luxury: he suddenly becomes consistent, and screws over all the owners who picked him for Anti. Now, with KT rising and Luxury doing well two straight seasons, many owners pick him up.
FPL6: Luxury Price: $6; expected to score ~30 points
Luxury goes 1-4, scores 6 pts, ends at $1 trade value
In a big "F U" to all his owners, Luxury quickly reverts to his old form. Even though KT went 7-4, Luxury still sucked. Luxury Chaos Theory is born. Theorum states that Luxury performance cannot be predicted or compensated for. No matter what you do, he will score the opposite of what you predict. To save headaches and time, Fantasy creators will perpetually price him at $5.
FPL7: Price: Luxury Price: $5, expected to score ~25 points

Flash will not be hit by the OSL curse. He's invincible. He's a steal at 10 points.

What concerns me is how many games will Flash get to play. Obviously Flash will be the ace card, and I'm thinking KTR's strategy will be something like: let's throw in everything we've got, and if they all fail, then we will send out the Ultimate Weapon.
With players like Luxury, Violet, Stats and Hoejja, and if Tempest and failGG are able to contribute, they are perfectly capable on taking over almost any team by themselves without Flash, so I'm afraid the little monster might only be able to play 1 or 2 games per match at maximum, since I see Lux, Violet and company taking at least 2 and possible 3 games.
The only times I see Flash being able to play 3-4 games are those were KT faces deep lineups like STX, CJ or SKT or teams like Oz or Khan send JD/Stork from the beginning.

I had an absolutely terrible run last season, due to some bad starting decisions, and overall inactivity. I had Skyhigh on my anti-team (I know, what kind of CJ fan am I?), because he was slumping for a bit, then as soon as he started doing well, I switched him for Stork, because it had looked like he was in a bit of a slump himself. Sure enough, immediately after that, Stork started owning up everything. And I was too lazy to really look into everything, so I kept my team as it was for the whole season, past that one trade or two.

I'm extremely excited for this as I get a kick out of TL events, but how exaclty do you guys prepare for this, what goes through your mind when you create your teams?
Like hell I can't figure out whats the difference between choosing one team over the other, never mind players..

going off the luxury chaos theory, he shouldn't be priced 5$, he should be 3-4, somewhere in the middle of his normal 1-5
I mean, he's not guaranteed nor expected to play like a 5, and five puts him high enough where you can't just buy him as a filler. you'd be betting full price on something that might not get full value.

I don't understand how this works (1st timer), seems a bit broken to me.
Do you GAIN points when a player on your anti-team loses? Or is it a straight up downhill? Don't see an answer to that anywhere.
This fantasy is for R3 WL only, right? How can trades be of any value if we don't know who is going to play how many games (unless a commonly used player hits a slump and you just want to get rid of him).
Since we can assume that some players will get to play MUCH more often than others, seems the only logical way to go is to pick 2-3 godly players that are sure to play OFTEN (and win often), and as for the rest just get players that are surely never going to play, the price of which is 0-1. This will maximize the quality of the players you can buy. There is no compensation of any kind for imbalanced play times.
As for the anti-team, if they don't bring you points when those players lose, then why not just pick players that never get to play, and never experience a loss of points due to them winning?

in the last league, you gained points for an anti-teams loss, in this, it's kinda impossible for them to go negative since winner's league scoring is 1 for showing up and -1 for losing, so technically it's downhill only
also, the downside of picking flash/jaedong/stork and 3 1 pointers is that you only have 3 sources of points max, and if someone else on their team (jangbi/violet/hiya) beats 2-3 players, they get one win tops, and outside of jaedong the top players aren't even guaranteed to play.
The trick is to get mid priced (you can get 1 8+ player if you're frugal elsewhere) players who you think will do better than expected, particularly those on teams where they'll see more play. that way you get players putting up flash-like numbers, while having enough money to fill your team out with decent players instead of fillers worth 1-2 points.
and anti-team has a minimum number of points you have to use, so you have to pick at least someone good. 13 points means that at worst you pick flash, a 1 and a 2

Just imagine WL as a large series of ace games that are less valuable than past ace games. You don't know exactly who is playing, but you can get a general idea given a team's make up, the map, and who's likely to be playing on that map when the time comes to send someone else out.
If scoring is anything like last time, when someone on your anti team loses and their team loses, you will indeed gain one point. It's not a lot but it's nice to not gain points more than get a scraggly one.
You can't pick players that never get to play because of the 13 point limit. Sure it'd be nice to grab 2 ace players who never get air time, but ehn you need a 11 point player -- which is impossible, since 10 is the highest starting value. It's better to go for longshots who arelikely to lose in the unpredictable format of WL than grab whoever you think might not play.
There's also plenty of reason not to grab godly players and a bunch of scrubs -- the bunch of scrubs could end up losing, you still need to pick a team which is usually the most important scoring pick, and you'll fall behind to people who took the risk of getting maybe, say, one top tier player and a few middling players capable of all killing -- remember last WL, the twins Yarnc and Luxury were the first to all kill and both are fairly cheap this season. Are you willing to gamble on them not playing similarly and just going for "shoe ins," ? Because a lot of people have a Bisu/Flash/Jaedong team and unless your anti team is perfect, you're just gonna end up in the low 200s with absolutely no trading power because more than half your team is pointless.
FPL is won with trades, for the most part. So a small pack of expensive players may net you a lot of gross points, but it'll hurt you in the long run.

Well, what I was trying to emphasize is not going for an imbalance of win % players (1 player with 90% win rate and 1 player with 10% win rate), but going for an imbalance of play times (1 player guaranteed to play 1-4 games per week and 1 player guaranteed to play 0 games per week). As a bonus if you pick a player who never plays but is on the team you chose (that wins often), then he will bring you points without even playing.
As for the anti-team, yes I forgot about the $13 limit, but regardless of that; one would want to go for players who play rarely, rather than players who play badly. This protects you from any unforeseen winning streaks.
I guess all in all, I slightly dislike the fact that a player will gain a point JUST for appearance. This a) protects that player from losing points (unless the team lost) and b) shifts the focus from player ability to player appearance rate.

but here's the thing, you don't know anything outside the first player. you could just pick flash and expect him to all-kill every team, but if he gets played last and luxury/violet show up with their game faces on, you just wasted a third of you team. and yeah, you can pick some random on kt who never sees play, but you'd only be getting 1 point per game, compared to someone plays and wins a game, who gets 3 (appearance, win, loss, team win). which might not seem like much, but it's 300% more and that adds up over time (11 games in and it's 11 points to 33 points)
and you can do that with anti team, but the unplayed players are worth next to nothing, so you'd have to take a big gamble on a 8-10$ player to pull it off.

Good information on the Luxury Chaos Theory, Hot_Bid. It seems that when Luxury fails, Yarnc succeeds, and vice versa. At least that's what I think.
Usually teams have 2-3 strong players, and that the 4th player in the potential lineup is the hardest part to guess. With no race restrictions, the picture becomes more clear, such as SKT not having to use Zergs, or Woongjin not having to use Terrans. Betting on that 4th appearance is my strategy this season, as well as having solid all-around players. Teams are more balanced this season.
As for trading, I feel that it is not as important in Winner's League, because things happen in hot/cold streaks within a match. The only reason I would trade is if the team sends out the same player twice in one week. Of course, you can take this opinion with a grain of salt, as I am one of the worst traders.

I think I'm going to use the same strategy that gave me success last time. I will put players I like on my team, which will end up being strongly weighted to follow STX's success or failure. I will put players I dislike on my antiteam, and hopefully Fantasy keeps doing so delightfully poorly.

Yeah I think a lot of people have Flash/JD/KT/scrubs or Flash/JD/ACE/2-5 pointers so it's not a winning strategy and you won't really be able to trade. But trading is probably less important in WL anyway if you have Flash and JD .
The upside of everybody being overpriced is the anti-team is considerably easier to pick than last time

Completly agree, last round the anti-team was so hard to pick, as there were so few mid-range player choices. This round there are so many high price players (7 points and up) that you have to either go all-out on Bisu/Flash/JD, or go all mid-range players (3 - 6 points) and hope that a couple of them can play better than normal.

Jaedong won't be good for the first weeks of WL because he'll still be reeling from the rape Flash is going to give him in MSL.

Picking solid players and no pointers seems a good idea, but I like messing around with trading a bit. Besides a bunch of A class players just playing without specific practice will definitely crush most others and hopefully should garner more points than just 2 S class.

I didn't really use a though out strategy or analysis from the beginning, my team just sort of evolved. I think I did reasonably well considering it's my first time doing this besides betting on some random liquibet matches.
My thought process:
First I was going to choose Stats, but he was too cheap so I had to go with Tempest instead. I don't like the other players at KTF so I hope at least one of these will get to play some... well, I kind of like Luxury, especially when he tricks Leta XD...
Anyways, then I noticed I'm supposed to choose a team captain!
I need a player who could do surprisingly well and thereby elevate the team. I settled on  Snow. Snow has played some entertaining games, I especially like those when he gets raped by some early cheese strat, I just hope he will win more in the future.
The team slot was also interesting, I like getting things for free so I went ahead with Ace, they aren't all that bad. After this I had a lot of points and I just chose some people I thought would do well; Leta, Flash, Kwanro and Really.
"Too many points spent on main team!" Ooops! Well, this required some pondering. I sacked Kwanro and Flash and replaced them with Pure and Ruby. I hope KT are going to field some other players like I've just mentioned and if thats the case, maybe Flash has to stand aside for a bit.
Suddenly I had a waaay to low score instead, to make matters worse I had also lost my only zerg. I reasoned logically and came to the conclusion that Jaedong should be a better pic than Tempest. Finally I had to let Ruby go in favour of Yellow to attain the maximum score of 30!
For the Anti Team I just chose some zergs, namely Roro, Savior and Hero. I belive zerg will struggle against the terran flash during this spring. I tried to choose macro oriented zerg players, don't know if I succeded though...

Who do you think is the best 1 pointer? I'm torn between Modesty, July, Stats and GoRush.
July can be used as a sick ZvP sniper, and I sure would use him if I were STX's coach.
Modesty is probably the better player overall and usually gets more play time than July.
Stats is quite good I think, but will he get any play time in KT's monster roster?
GoRush goes first in both of ACE's matches first week, and will be playing a lot. But he'll lose most games and get no team win points.
Who to go for? Someone not on my list even?
Snow? Pusan? PuMa? PianO? Orion? M18M? Lomo? FireFist?

Just a quick question. If ZerO 4-0's ACE in his first match and then say he wins 2 games in his 2nd match against CJ, will I be able to trade him for Jaedong by week 2? Assuming that Jaedong stays in his spot as far as points go.

It seems to me that Yarnc will get more play time than Pure, as Fox will probably send out Midas, Mind and Shine before Pure. While I have a feeling Yarnc will be sent out as 2nd for Hite.

If you think he'll lose all his games then he scores nothing. +1 for lineup -1 for loss. If think SKT will win allot however he still gets +1 for team win.
Personal adivce: don't put Bisu on your anti for winners league. That's suicide.

I'm having trouble working through a strategy, as last year's WL had a surprising number of mediocre-to-bad players come out first, and when it's bad vs bad, somebody has to win.
So what I'm thinking is, which big-name players are least likely to have kills vultured by a bad player picking up a couple wins? KT players look like bad gambles this year. Flash, Luxury (sort of), and Violet are all pretty good. Although Violet a little bit and Luxury A LOT are unpredictable, KT is likely to lead with Stats/Barracks/815/HoeJJa/Tempest who are all reasonably good. As long as they don't revert to sending fOrGG out at critical moments...
What about other teams? SKT players Bisu, fantasy, and maybe BeSt look like good pickups, because their bad players Zergs are BAD. Canata's a wild card.
CJ will likely rampage again: even though Much is gone and Iris is playing poorly, skyhigh and Effort can rip things up. Movie, Snow, and Hydra are all coming along nicely too. But CJ never all-killed last year and it's less likely now, I think. Effort's too good to be sniped reliably, but by the same token he'll be saved for last.
I think Jaedong will rack up the most kills of anybody - unless HiyA goes crazy again. Killer is likely to be a lead player and could do some damage, but is weak vT so easily sniped. The rest of OZ is kind of sucky.
I like MBC but I don't feel like they have any all-kill threats at the moment. Light's the closest. Pusan's the only one I feel has the nerves for it and he hasn't been playing pretty much at all. hite's only trump card is Leta, and Yarnc's a wild card at best. Horang2 should be a good PvP sniper - aaaand that's about it.
eSTRO? Really's been very good, but everyone else is kind of inconsistent - also he's almost hit 50% wins again, which means he's due to start playing badly. Flying, as long as he stays away from Really Good Zergs, could make a splash.
KHAN worries me. Winners League last year was the start of their fall. TurN could break out, but I don't like any of their main players. Maybe Jangbi?
WeMade will suffer this round; they have no ace-quality players - but as a result they almost have to lead with the good players they do have, which might make RorO, Mind, and Shine good gambles for FPL.
STX stands to do well behind Kal and Calm, and Last played well during last year's WL as well.
Stars? ZerO is a star, free and Kwanro are dangerous. They'll get most of Woongjin's wins, too: the next best player on the squad is probably CrazyHydra. Or Piano, if people throw Zergs at him all day again.
And ACE? No idea.

Too many good players on the team is detrimental, as they would just steal the kills from other players. Here is what I envision for every team (the ideal lineup, not playing rookies):
SKT: Bisu, Fantasy, Best, Canata
SKT could play Zergs to snipe a matchup, but that's about what they are for. They could use other Terrans such as Mong, iloveoov, or Boxer, but that's highly unlikely.
KTF: Flash, Violet, Luxury, (?)
KTF has a lot of good players, and their 4th player could be ForGG, Stats, Hoejja, almost anyone on that roster could be it.
CJ: Skyhigh, Effort, Movie, (?)
Like KTF, CJ has a bunch of players that could all kill, and their roster is deep enough that they could use almost any race. Savior, Hydra, Snow, Nbs, Iris could all be used to snipe the opponent.
OZ: Jaedong, HiYa, Killer, (?)
One man show with Jaedong. Hiya could pick up some kills, but they don't have a very deep lineup past that. Killer is going to play some matches simply because the Coach wants to play him and there is a lack of options. Backho and Lomo have disappeared. GGaemo and Perfectman are simply not good enough to win any matches.
STX: Calm, Kal, (?), (?)
STX has such a deep lineup, that picking anyone else except for Calm and Kal would be a toss-up. There are Terrans such as Hwasin, Frozen, Bogus and Last, Zergs with Hero and Modesty, and Protoss with Shuttle.
MBC: Light, Sea, Han, HyuN
Of course, MBC could go with Saint, Shark, or Jaehoon as the fourth player, but I'm not so sure who's going to take that spot. Probably going to be sent out by opponent's weakness.
OGN: Leta, Yarnc, (?), (?)
OGN doesn't really have any good players from these two. They have type-b, HoGil, go.go, Justin and Horang2 to round out these two spots.
Stars: Zero, free, Kwanro, (?)
The spot could go to one of the numerous Woongjin Terrans, or Guemchi, which is much more likely since he did start out with 2 appearances in 08-09 Winner's League, though he has disappeared and slumping.
Fox: Mind, Roro, Shine, Pure
I expect this core group to continue to play in this Winner's League, without much depth behind them except for Midas, Baby, and possibly Lucifer. They do have issues, as they had a poor record in their ACE matches in the last round, and Winner's League format could be really bad for this team.
KHAN: Stork, Jangbi, Firebathero, Great
Khan is hard to guess, since their coach likes to play their players evenly, so TurN, Miracle, M18M, and oDin could all get appearances. Most of their players are inconsistent to some extent, and could perform really well, or terribly.
eSTRO: Really, hyvaa, (?), (?)
The two spots could go to UpMagic, Fancy, SangHo, Flying, or Action. If Really and hyvaa loses, I think that eStro will not win the match against any opponent except ACE.
ACE: (?), (?), (?), (?)
Almost anyone can play from ACE, with such a short roster, except Casy and Cloud. Even then, I wouldn't count them out.

For 1 pointers its important to have them in a strong team, so theyll get you some sure points whether they play (or even less, win) or not.
So Stats, FireFist, 815 for example would seem to be some nice choices even when you cant know who of them would be playing.

I'm new to this, so can someone please explain to me why going winning two games and then losing is the same as winning three games and then losing scoring wise?
Best: 7 Points (+1 for lineup, +6 for 3 wins, -1 for loss, +1 for team win)
Jaedong: 6 Points (+1 for lineup, +4 for 2 wins, -1 for loss, +2 for 3-game streak break)
If you take out best's +1 for being on the winning team, these two players scored the same, yet one went 2-1 and the other went 3-1. Shouldn't the players get more points for going 3-1?

The first round of games are over as each Team has played a match each. A few observations:
-It has been a pretty damn good week for Terrans in general.
-556 out of 2190 players picked firebathero on their anti-team. That's a full quarter of all the players. More than anyone else. LOL.
-Only 29 people put Han on their team and 479 put him on their anti even though he went 8-4 in R1 and R2.
-Why did Flash's trade value go down even though he's 1-0? Are the expectations so high for him that only an all-kill would earn him points?

Having Leta, Hoejja, AND Hiya did wonders for me
And I was convinced Roro's performance last round was due to him getting lucky draws with the lineups. But him beating Hwasin is kinda making me regret having him on anti again.

I just realized FPL scoring and the WL format really punishes expensive ace players on deep teams such as Effort, Calm, Flash, Bisu, Zero etc. because you can't expect them to ever get a alot of wins unless they get sent to lead off, which is rarely going to happen. Those deep teams will probably send their young prospects and A-level players before they send the S-Class ace player. It's quite possible the supporting cast can get the job done before the ace player shows up. Zero has not made an appearance yet because Woonjin doesn't need him (Woonjin doesn't need anyone besides G-Chizzle). I can see many sets where KT will not need Flash. Zero made an appearance, he was sent first vs Ace, probably the most coveted position of any player on an FPL team. He had the opportunity to all-kill a pretty easy team, but blew it. Bisu was sent out when it was 2-0 Samsung, and could've gotten a streak break point and at least a win or two.
If you look at the last WL standings, Bisu, Flash, and Jaedong all did very well. Bisu went 20-6 and Flash 18-4. I suppose you could argue that KT and SKT weren't as good back then, but this week SKT lost, CJ lost, and KT / STX both went to Set 7, so it's really not so bad for aces -- they all got to play.

oops... forgot Zero started the first set. But I still think having 2 medium cost guys like Light and Best is better value for WL format than a $10 boss like Flash.

One of my high school teachers allowed something similar to this; on exams he gave you 100% if you got 0% correct because he assumed you needed to know the right answer to get them all wrong. Not quite as satisfying as actually winning.

I have a question about points. It does not seem fair to me for players like PianO or Nbs to never play a game and have 3 points or whatever, and players like Lomo or Snow, who actually played but lose to have 0.
I think there is a plus for them to being sent in a SWL match than those who only sit on the bench. Can someone please fix this?

Got the second biggest trade gain, woot. The first is pripple, damn i notice him often, similar teams, trades, crappy starts and weeks. Loading the team with terrans works well with WL.

I was below 700 for awhile because I traded for Hyun (Only zerg for a solid team otherwise) and Flash hadn't been getting a lot of playtime. My Yarnc/Action/Flying/Estro quartet crashed and burn, but then, bam, ForGG picks up a 3 kill (+KT wins), Hyun 3kills + MBC wins, and Flash destroys seven people in a row and breaks a 3 kill streak on top of 2 KT wins.
I shot up 500 places this week is what I'm saying. =)

There is another bug with trading, when you exchange players one week, and then exchange them back week after, the values for trade profits are not calculated properly. Is this known or should I provide more detail?

Can anybody explain why is Light -> Fantasy trade -2? I noticed it yesterday, neither team played this week (until this day) and trade tax is only -1. Am i missing something?

Haha, I went from like 1500 in FPL, totally giving up on it and then somehow reached #42. Now I am falling like a stone again as ACE killed Oz (was betting on a Jaedong all kill there) and then SKT (traded Oz for SKT cuz SKT was fighting ACE). Didn't work out too well lolz.
At the beginning of the FPL, I was debating between having a Terran duo of Flash (10 points) and Fantasy (6 points) combo or a Zerg duo of Jaedong (9 points) and Effort (7 points) combo. I decided that whoever won the MSL would get my final vote. We all know how that turned out for me in the end lolz.
Power outage for the win!
Oh, and another reason why I picked Jaedong was because KT was supposed to have such a deep team, that Flash shouldn't even get a chance to play, much less all kill. And then Hiya started raping and Killer actually winning, while Luxury and Violet just disappear from the world.

I don't think trade points affect your rank until the first matches of the week are played. You'll keep your rank but you'll see the point deduction. So if you're 100 with a higher main team than your friend at 100 you'll be 99 but still ahead until the games are played.

I hope he stays expensive so I can put him on my anti team.

I'm guessing that Bisu costs 7. If he costs 8, putting him on my anti-team, if he costs 6, going on my main.

Signups will be open later today or tomorrow. I opened a poll and discussion thread about scoring.

Bisu will not be available for signup teams until lineups are out (a few days before the first matches). Not sure how much he will cost, all player prices are decided except for him (until we see lineups or news that he's back from break). If he is not in lineups and returns midseason, he will not be available for signups but will be available as a trade option.

Before I spent about 10 hours tonight figuring out my FPL team, are the prices that are up right now the prices that are going to be used or will they be changed?
