Damn, 65 teams and 2 days left. Way to go CSL :D
|
So, when does everything start? I'm starting to get excited to show my (lack of) skills.

Is the other OSU (number 65) Oregon State? I know the first one is Ohio State.
On a side note, are we going to have more than 8 divisions this season? With this many teams, the group round is gonna be crazy.
|
yes oregon state , sorry !

Well logically there should only be either 8 or 16 divisions. Preferably, id say 8 divisions, play everyone in your division and then have then playoffs. Seems logical to use the time until june anyways instead of trying to squeeze two CSL's between now and then. That gives approximately 5 months for this CSL.
8 groups of 9 (or so), that gives us 8 weeks of season play, 4 weeks of playoffs with plenty of time left over.
|
Logically? Why not East/West, subdivided into 6 divisions each?
Then, 2 from each division go into the playoffs, 12 in east and 12 in west, with the highest 4 in east/west getting a bye. You have 8 on 8 for the first round of the playoffs. Kinda like this:
5 weeks for playoffs, and if you have 5 weeks of the regular season, you can determine the top seeds in each division. 10 weeks is needed. Of course, more is always welcome.
I know, really, really crappy looking. But it should get the point across.
|
Well we are on the assumption that it is already going to be East/West.
What im saying though is that more people can have more matches if there are larger groups. we are all here to have fun in intercollegiate play. If anything i'd think that the participants would rather have a longer season and shorter playoff than a longer playoff. thats what i was thinking when i suggested groups of 9 with 8 weeks of season play.
|
I'd be up for a longer regular season!
(6 games felt a bit short imo)
|
Longer regular season and a shorter playoff sounds a lot more appealing
|
Fair enough, more matches are definitely a good idea. However, it'll be even more difficult to get into the playoffs, since we would have to cut it off sooner, meaning a division with 2 schools which are both very competitive would have to send one packing, without giving them a shot at the playoffs.
I mean, if the playoffs are 32 teams, that wouldn't be too bad. But it would take 5 weeks to go through the playoffs..... And no real benefit of doing really, really well in the round robin games.....
|
in the last season, two teams per division advanced and it worked out well imo.
8 groups of 9 - 2 advance from each division would make it 8 weeks of season play and 4 weeks of playoffs with the top 22% advancing.
makes sense to me.

I say we use a combination of polls and computer rankings to determine relative team rankings. Then the top 2 teams will play for the championship while the rest of the teams will play in "Bowl" games.

lol would be funny if it was divided into the NCAA Divisions like SEC, Big 12, Big 10, Pac 10 etc etc.
as long as we don't do some BCS bull shit....

There's more teams this season, which means that the same playoff setup as last season would not work as well..... It will be very difficult to actually get a spot in a competitive division. 16 teams in the playoffs would not be enough this season. 32 is about half, which may be too many..... That's why I suggested a 24 team setup.....
|
Impervious the ideas nice, but i think match count is more important. thats what i was trying to say. we all want t play :D. CSL should be trying to get colleges to play as many games as possible because thats what teams want.
By that logic, a longer season with a stricter playoff might be beneficial.
