Nada (Lee Yun Yeol) recently left a cryptic message on his social networking homepage. It appeared to be some short thoughts on soul-searching and the past, but when the first letters of each sentence were read from top to bottom....
"떠 나 기 전 마 지 막 대 회"
"The last tournament before I leave..."
*Update* Daily E-Sports reports that the WeMade Fox team is denying all rumors that Nada may be retiring. They stated "Although there was a time when Nada was unsure about his future, after consultations with his team he has decided to focus on the upcoming IeSF tournament."
Sad to see; was hoping for one last hurrah a la 2007 to even further assert him as the most consistent, greatest player ever =(. I hope this is a case of shinigamis and apples, but considering the subject of his post, I doubt it...

Is the "last tournament" possibly the one Waxangel posted recently with old-school players?

He's been away from the scene for quite some time now. I'm surprised people aren't used to his absence.
In a depressing interview he said he wanted to win one more league before he retired. He was refering to the MSL after where he lost to Jangbi. Now he's not qualified for any leagues and I get the feeling all he does nowadays is work out. Nada is my second favorite player and he's not going to have enough time or win anything with his current form.

Nada was never cocky or arrogant. I can tell you for a fact that is all in your head. He has always been so god damn humble, always complementing his opponents, and even when his career surpassed boxer's he still says stuff like he could never compare to boxer. He willingly lived in Boxer's shadow for his career not to mention as the most accomplished player in the game stayed with the bottom tier team WeMade.
You probably feel that way about Nada, just because of all of the additional meanings and thoughts that come about from having the nickname Genius terran. It's like when people call Savior Hitler, it's just a projection of how people want to see him and the image MBC/OGN stations decide to create.
The only time Nada showed that kind of arrogance was during Shinhan 3 where he was trying to win for his mom after winning the previous league for his dad.

It's probably just you. Don't let that NaDa GIF get to you.
Given Nada's vision problems, is he even eligible to join the military, much less the air force? I really hope so. I'd love it if he went to Ace: he'd get decent playtime in proleague, and I can start rooting for Ace wholeheartedly.

I have to say i also hate jangbi even more now, lol. I really sat there watching those games thinking nada is back! I'd so like to see him win another league. My alltime favorite player.

I think you misunderstood something here. :o
I thought dangots0ul was saying in an interview Nada said his only goal now is to beat boxer and implied boxer is not so good either. Which seemed strange because Nada is always saying how great boxer is. It felt like that was not the type of stuff Nada usually says and I'd reserve my judgment for believing it until seeing it for myself.

Yeah and other pro gamers say that they live in the shadow of Nada as well, this is the humble korean attitude that in fact is quite awesome. Let other people judge their accomplishments
Also what I wrote came across wrong. I didn't mean it in a negative way but more that he had more attitude to him back then. Age and his father passing away probably matured him quite alot
For the record, I'm a huge Nada fan and have been for 6 years.

Nada didn't really live in Boxers shadow though. Nada and Boxer are both in the top 5 biggest pro gamers ever, maybe even top 3 and he had huge popularity back when he was winning alot of shit. His fanclub was second only to Boxer

Nada probably won't join ACE. I mean he's more than likely lost interest in the game by now, the last thing he wants to do is spend his military service playing even more of it.
I wonder if he'll actually retire though..shame cause with the motivation he can still play at a top level.

Ahh thanks for the translation. I have to disagree though. Looking at the form of Stork and Leta at that time and Nada at that time, if Nada beat Jangbi he would have been the favorite to win the Lost Saga MSL imo.

Anyway, it's sad to see NaDa go, even if he was way before when I started watching, I'hve come to learn many great things about the best Terran that there ever was. One could even say he invented TvP and TvZ as we know it today...
D: OH SHIT man Nada's my hero and even the wallpaper on my itouch. He better not leave T.T If Boxer can come back and start winning games, Nada can too! That Set with Jangbi seemed to take a lot out of him, but god that was one AMAZING series.
Good stuff! Nada was so huge back then it's hard to grasp nowadays. He dominated Broodwar. Thanks alot for linking to that, I don't remember seeing it although I was around in 2005.
4 KINGS!
Nada, don't leave. You're the reason I started playing Terran
On December 01 2009 07:02 disciple wrote: correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I know Nada is free from his military duties. Dont know the reason but he is not going to become a soldier
What I heard about is he's free from the military duty since his elder brother (not sure) has now been in the army. Something like two men from a same family don't go to army at the same time. After his brother's duty is done, I think Nada still has to go (to Ace please ><).
Technically Nada is 26 ten days ago (in Korean way). The deadline is in two years.
As I said in a thread about Nada earlier, it seems like he's lost all motivation to play Starcraft. I'll miss him but I'd much rather him quit then see him sitting around the Wemade house all day doing nothing and simply wasting time away.

Remember an interview from a couple of months ago where he said that Starcraft was only work for him, like going to a factory to work on an assembly line or something... Which really saddens me, he looked like he used to have so damn fun.
It sounds like he might be depressed, or maybe he's just feeling a bit down at the moment
Man, I read this and almost cried. I never got to see NaDa at his best, but I love his style and how he dedicated a win to his father. I hope one day makes a comeback, but I'm not sure anymore...

i knew it was all bullshit, including that guy who said his friend said "this and that"
nada has won so much, is a bonjwa and a legend, why would he regret anything? and he's still just 20 something, he's still got plenty of time to do what he wants
Thanks for the update kona! At least one piece of good news to save my sad day.
I wonder if Wemade or Nada wants to renew the contract for a year or another 3-year. 2013 sounds too far regarding Nada has been depressed at the moment. He might not want it even if Wemade gives the offers.
I wonder why he's depressed, no one can remain a superterran forever, and he's certainly been at the top or near it the longest. He's still a solid player and generally much better than Midas...

He probably wouldn't get offered anywhere near as much as he is currently getting. He's currently one of the highest paid progamers I believe.
I would honestly not be suprised if Nada is contemplating retirement. Nowadays, his career has reached rock bottom as he is no longer able to compete at the highest levels like he used to. Plus, he has already achieved preety much everything a StarCraft progamer would desire to achieve. Combined with his yet uncompleted military service, it is not all that strange that he might want to cut his losses and end his career on a relatively high note.
Yes, he is still fairly young, but he is not getting any younger and Koreans often say that military service becomes harder the more you delay it. Even money is no longer much of a motivator, considering he received a major pay cut in his recent contract. So all of this must be weighting heavily on his mind.

Nada is arguably the best player in Starcraft history as of now. He is probably feeling down because he has achieved pretty much everything there is to be achived in Starcraft, including winning the first friggin' golden mouse. So maybe he is thinking about what he wants to do in life after his SC career
Nada can still make some good bank from a progaming contract regardless of how well he plays, just because he is very well known, so he is probably gonna stay some while longer at WeMade. Besides, he needs to mentor his protegé By.Baby and Midas needs some Terran company besides Inter.Mind.

If the words are from this interview here, I'm thinking it's this part that makes him cry: -It is your first time winning the Finals where your mother has attended.
▶Yes, it is my first time winning the Finals, with my mother seated as the audience. But, for this very victory, I give it all to my father, though he didn't make it. From now on, I will do my best for my mother.
I'm not looking for the end ceremony, I'm looking for the video of the interview on stage. I couldn't find it for three years, it is the reason I got into watching starcraft and is the only thing I want to see.
I thought it was fitting to ask here where the most people can appreciate it.
he'll probably be back for a run at sc2 anyhow. seeing how WeMade recruited the wc3 player moon almost 2 years ago in order to prepare, they will definitely do everything in their power to keep nada playing.

it smacks of wemade telling him to shut the fuck up and doing damage control to me (his cyworld went from public to private after that post became widely known), imo.
from the front office's point of view, it is pretty damn annoying if one of your players under contract starts to bring up retirement talk in some big open medium

Yeah, seems about right to me.
Reading through this thread, it sounds to me like this IeSF will be NaDa's last tournament, and he's focusing just on beating Boxer to win the tournament. If so we should all relish NaDa's games and cheer him on!

Why does Wemade not wanting him to talk about retirement? Other than losing some of their Nada fans, which is going to happen anyway if he really does retire. If anything it brings them some more press and attention than they normally would.

it creates speculation and rumors about wemade and nada
Nada comes out of his slump, qualifies for both leagues for next spring. Win the osl, capture the 4th title which eluded everyone and lead Wemade to the grand finals.
then i would say its time to retire. No doubt before that he was a legend, but just to show everyone what he can do! NADA fighting!
Wow, when i first started to read this thread i got tears in my eye's and it felt like i got punshed right in the ballsack, and now i honestly dont know what to feel :S, this rumor started off by Nada acctualy posting somthing like this and that means that nada isent in it with the passion needed to win a fourth title but i am pretty happy to hear that he's staying the season out, but something deep inside of me tells me that its gonna be a fast and quick season with very little Nada action in it due to the lack of passion = bad results in the Wemade house and that will not give him any PL matches
