The Group Selection
Group Selection Discussion Thread
The Steal Draft
The Steal Draft is a somewhat long and complicated process, not helped at all by the large number of players that now qualify for each MSL season. Here’s how it works:
The first eight seeds are placed into groups A through H, with the first seed in Group A and the eighth seed in Group H. The first eight seeds may never be moved by any player, they remain in the groups in which they are seeded. Seeds nine through sixteen are determined by previous MSL appearances and performance, with more obviously being better. Seeds nine through sixteen are placed into the other pair in groups A through H, but in reverse order. Seeds eight and nine would be in the same group, then seven and ten, six and eleven and so on up until the first and sixteenth.
Once players are placed into the groups, the remaining players are also ranked based upon previous MSL appearance and performances. Starting with the seventeenth, and ending with the thirty-second, each player takes his own name and places it in an open spot next to the player he wishes to play against.
After everyone has been placed upon the board, the stealing begins. It starts in ascending order at the sixteenth seed and moves all the way up to the first. Seed nine through sixteen are allowed three options: (1) Exchange himself with another player, (2) Exchange his current opponent with another player, or (3) Pass the turn and exchange no one.
Seeds three through eight work a little differently. They are able to pick two moves from the following: (1) Exchange a player in their group with another player, (2) Exchange any two other players with each other, or (3) Pass the turn and exchange no one. Seeds two and one earn a few more decisions. They are able to switch any player with another player and may do so up to three times or until they wish to pass.
For details on how this Steal Draft went, you can follow each step of the way in the Group Selection Discussion Thread, linked above.
Results and Standings for the Round of 32
Once again we return to a group stage for the round of thirty-two. Each group consists of four players; the Steal Draft determines their placement in each group. Each group must go through a double elimination format to determine which players will advance and which players are eliminated. If a player can get two wins before he gets two losses, then he advances to the next round. If he can’t, then he is eliminated. Two players from each group of four will have the chance to continue to fight for this season’s title.

Results and Standings for the Round of 16
The number of remaining competitors has been halved as the tournament continues into the Round of 16. Beginning with this round, the tournament becomes single elimination. The players who finished first out of their groups last round will be paired against a player that finished in second. Each pair of players will play a best-of-three match to determine not only who will advance to the next round, but who will earn seeds into the following MSL.
Thumbs Down Since there are four maps, there will be one map in each best-of-three match that will not be played. The players who finished first out of their group are given the opportunity to give a “thumbs down” to one of the maps. What this means is that the player will get to choose one of the four maps that he will not have to play on during this round. This allows the player the advantage of getting to remove a map that does not fit his play style or that he thinks may be imbalanced in a particular match-up.

Results and Standings for the Quarter Finals
It is showtime. The competition heats up as the number of players are reduced again and the number of games per match increase. Six of the advancing players will be meeting up with the other person that qualified from their Round of 32 Group, while one match sees a new pairing in the tournament. Each match is now a best-of-five, a more challenging series as each player has already secured a seed for the next MSL, their only goal now should be championship.
Thumbs Down As we transition to the the quarter finals, with the format changing into a best-of-five series with two equally ranked players, the Thumbs Down system also changes. Both players will pick a map that they do not want to be repeated in the five map set. (As there are four maps in the tournament, one is repeated for a best-of-five match.)

Results and Standings for the Semifinals
There are only four players left. Winners will go only to glory, while the losers will not even be remembered on TLPD's podium. For each player, there are matches and a maximum of ten games left before they hold the trophy. Each will be eager to prove they are worthy of a championship. None of the remaining players are left in OSL, so each will be fully focused on playing at their best for the MSL crown.
Thumbs Down Retaining the best-of-five format for the semifinals, the thumbs down method from the quarter finals remains the same also.

Flash 1-3 ► Eliminated
Results and Standings for the Grand Finals
This is it. The last stand. Two teammates enter and one leaves. In the situation between two players who both know each other's play styles well and have played so many games together, you can never count out the underdog. Predictability among teammates is much different and can be much more accurate, even for players who seem more unpredictable than others. Only one of these players will be walking away hoisting the trophy.
Jaedong thumbs down Athena
fOrGG thumbs down Tiamat
Game 1: Jaedong < fOrGG on Colosseum Game 2: Jaedong < fOrGG on Othello Game 3: Jaedong < fOrGG on Tiamat

awesome! thanks semioldguy!

I look forward to reading the next Final Edit that has a nice overview of Bisu's career, his dominance, and subsequent downfall.
|
Hmm, well bisu already has a fe of his rise and dominance. There are a number of players that achieved as much or more that don't even have that.

|
Also... Nooooo FBH up against Much in the Ro16!!!!!!! Gah, FBH please show us that you learned how to TvP. Please!!
|
I'm probably gonna get killed now, but how do I watch this live?
|
the good thing with this bracket is that there is a possibility of a jaedong vs Flash final !
|
For Ro16 we now got
Free vs Light FBH vs Much ForGG vs Sea Canata vs Kal

The only possible Royal roader is calm, and he is still in Ro32, he should have no chance to beat his group. It sucks.
|
Isn't Royal Road an OSL-only thing?
And many thanks to Pachi for the ro16 matchups!

It is only about OSL but winning his first MSL in his first MSL is a big achievement imo.

I'll get this updated tonight when I get home.

One thing I've noticed is that Lucifer and Flash have been 'rewarded' for 2-0ing their groups by playing Jaedong and Mind, respectively.
On the other hand, Lomo (2-1) gets to play Kwanro.
The system itself is fair, but it can throw up a fair few anomalies when the stronger players drop a set in progressing to the RO16.
|
Wow Jaedong is gonna rape Lucifer so bad he's gonna retire
|
hmmmm i dont want jaedong to win :D so go LUCIFER!!! go kick his ass!!! and Mind vs Flash hmmmmmm thats sooo hard i never did like Flash but i do respect him..... i want Mind to win this but 70% Flash could win this 2-0 if not then i think Mind is gonna win 2-1 due to him lossing every game 2.... my opinion if Mind can beat Flash in game 1 then i think he has this in the bag :D
|
Anyone think Mind might of thrown his game against Lomo so he can face Flash early, and remove some major competition? Other than Flash, Mind is the top terran- after all. Personally I think hes going to lose pretty handily, but you never know.
|
Poor Zergs are gettin masacred in this MSL.
|
Poor Mind and Firebathero. They can be out in Ro16...
|
I think FBH can pull through over Much. I'm more worried about LuCifer and Nada.
|
This MSL looks kind of lack luster. Some of the best players are clustered in A, B, and especially H. Too bad only 3 of them can make ro8.
|
FBH vs Much should be Ok.
Free vs Light is meh....
Kal vs Canata boring
ForGG vs Sea should be pretty good
Lomo vs Kwanro im not sure.

I guess I'll be going on autopilot as far as the MSL is concerned (except for LuCifer/JD and Mind/Flash) as I follow PL and OSL until this round of games is over.
|
Hmm does Lucifer have a good PvZ , i always like seeing JD raping but i want it to be a close game atleast .
|
LuCifer is just downright good.

Nah Jaedong is just gonna destroy him. It's gonna be fun to watch.
I think Mind can upset Flash but he needs to be perfect. Flash is just too solid against risky early game tactics.
The rest of the ro16 is pretty boring.
|
I'm gonna laugh at all the mindless jaedong fans if LuCifer wins.
|
lol "mindless", does it offend you personally that someone doesn't favor lucifer? Also, I'm not a Jaedong fan, I'm just stating a rather obvious outcome: Jaedong will rape lucifer.

wow, hwasin vs nada is gonna be good

jaedong has not been playing that good lately. Only thing hes really done is beat bisu whos playing even worse than him. Lost to just about everyone else.
|
10 Terran 4 Protoss 2 Zerg
Try telling me Terran isn't imba @_@
I'm looking very much forward to Lucifer vs Jaedong. On one hand, I can really see Jaedong dropping a set and hitting the slump button big time. On the other hand, I can see him really tightening up and playing great Starcraft now that the stakes are so high. The fresh-faced newcomer looking to shock vs the reigning OSL Champion looking to get his groove back. Sounds good to me.
Also, look at my sig and ask me if I'm excited about Flash vs Mind
Mind throwing a set? Are you fucking kidding me? Mind isn't crazy enough to want to go straight against the Little Monster.

You obviously have not watched Jaedong zvp recently.
|
Lucifer vs Jaedong is going to be the shit. Lucifer is kinda unknown in PvZ but he has 815 to practice on and Ra and Reach to coach him. Also, Jaedong's worst matchup is vs Protoss and he is a bit off his game as of late.
|
The amount of Terran in the MSL is offset since theres only 4 in the OSL i think.

Take that! Terran imba scum bag

Lucifer can still come back in this series.

Why should they play versus each other i would have been happy if they could steamroll some more terrans so that the number of terran would reduce , because terrans are imba ...

This MSL bracket is the worst I have ever seen. Except for Flash vs Lomo every match of the Ro8 is a rematch of the Ro32.
I guess for the next season they will "improve" their system and the Ro16 will look like this: A1 vs A2 B1 vs B2 C1 vs C2 D1 vs D2 E1 vs E2 F1 vs F2 G1 vs G2 H1 vs H2

Free > Much!!! The two people I used to get mix up all the time for some reason. Free should take it because he is cooler
Hwasin > Jaedong!!!! Would have been soo much more epic if it happened a few months back, but whatever. Hwasin is one of my favorite Terrans, but I don't want a TvT final. Definately torn here but thinking Hwasin
Kal > ForGG! Well I don't like ForGG and maybe Kal has a chance against Flash
Flash > Lomo!! I want Lomo crushed asap and Flash is the perfect one to do it.
Free > Hwasin- I thought Hwasin was going to win a few seconds ago, but I have faith in Free. Plz win I am truly rooting for you to take this MSL
Flash > Kal- ya
FREE > flash- I sense Free is about to break Free! (Not like self-destruction)
edit: AA I remember why I think Free> Flash. Ok if you look at TLPD, Free is 1-5 against Flash. But then I remembered Free's win on Sin Peaks. DO you? It was Flash's first loss against a Protoss after going on a nice streak at the beginning of his career. That was the start of Flash several losses to Toss and his reputation of being weak vs carriers. Now I believe Free will break Flash again and cause him to slowly fall! Behold Flash's Early TvP
edit2: meant TvP edit3: Gonna complete this with 2 linked vods Game 1 <-- Well maybe not this one, it seems to be broken Game 2

Free is garbage, he'll probably lose to Much. No way in hell he's gonna even take an scv from Flash.

Don't think anyone can stop Flash in this considering his play lately oO I think Best will take this OSL though and I hope for Hwasin to take out JD.. GOGO Sniper!

I hope Jaedong takes this down ^^

usually i don't really request things like this but could someone update this thread? it's pretty out-of-date. the last time the OP was updated was nearly a month ago.
i'm guessing semioldguy is busy with IRL stuff atm which is totally understandable so it would be nice if someone in red could update this in his stead.
pachi imba!

lol I just saw the MSL of Jaedong vs Hwasin and I got curious and ventured here. Too bad semioldguy seems to be busy.

Coud someone please draw a caricature or show the remaining brackets since Semioldguy is away?

It's all good. Seems like the entire staff went on vacation anyways, but the ones here have been doing a great job filling in.
Anyways, looking forward to rooting against Flash. Hope he loses to Lomo.

FlaSh's last 3 or so losses to Terran have been from lower level Terrans. What if that's his weakness?

God damn, 1 week of awaiting seems too long

Anyone know how good Flash's chances are beating fOrGG this MSL? I mean, I know Flash has incredible TvT but he's been losing to lower level terrans lately. Not only that, but he's lost to fOrGG this recent proleague game. I really want Flash to win so I can see Jaedong take down Flash in MSL finals but we can't see that wonderful matchup if Flash gets taken out in the semifinals

gogo jaedong! , i think flash will win vs forGG

Blah either player will have regrets if they win because they are teammates , but i'm sure they are twise as happy as a team to dominate this league .
