Well hello there TeamLiquid! Recently Manifesto7 and I sat down with POS Coach, Seo Hyung Seok ([Aficionado]) and had a very pleasant interview/conversation... Here it is!
FakeSteve: Well first of all the standards.. name/age?
[Aficionado]: Seo Hyung Seok / 27
Manifesto7: 27 korean age / 26 NA age
FakeSteve: And you're coach of the POS Team What exactly does your job involve?
[Aficionado]: My job include everything for POS players <---that's simple
Manifesto7: haha busy guy [Aficionado]: hm some : )
FakeSteve: So what, you help them prepare for games?
[Aficionado]: of course I usually prepare for their games everyday, and even I should keep thier fitness everyday! [Aficionado]: and I should pick new players for team
FakeSteve: What is it you do to help them prepare for games?
[Aficionado]: analyze opponent's style, lastest strats of enemies, even making new build order for fantastic assualt, etc
FakeSteve: I'd assume that would take very deep understanding of StarCraft.
[Aficionado]: even I punched them if they want some lazy : )
FakeSteve: hahaha FakeSteve: And stay away from greasy western food!
[Aficionado]: hm yeah deep understanding i need
FakeSteve: That would make it easier for you to spot new talent eh?
[Aficionado]: keke sure
FakeSteve: What do you look for in a new team member, in terms of skill/personality? FakeSteve: even age?
[Aficionado]: both [Aficionado]: Skills, personality and age all important for picking new players up for team pos I think [Aficionado]: I picked 14 NA age boy last month : )
FakeSteve: Oh!
[Aficionado]: I think he is the best among world 14 NA ages
FakeSteve: Who might that be?
[Aficionado]: secret : )
FakeSteve: haha, okay ;]
FakeSteve: Do the current team members have a say in who joins team POS? Or is it strictly your call?
[Aficionado]: hm : ) [Aficionado]: depend on me [Aficionado]: ^^
FakeSteve: So can you offer some insight about judging skill? it must be hard to choose the best members for the team, what spefically do you look for in terms of skill?
[Aficionado]: keyboard skill, mouse scroll speed, attitude playing SC, some dedication to playing SC [Aficionado]: I believe good hardware skill makes the best [Aficionado]: usually people who has good strategic mind makes good result but I think they coudn't climb the highest level : )
FakeSteve: Interesting
[Aficionado]: ^^ for example, July had not any strat play during the 2 years [Aficionado]: But he made it StarLeague champion [Aficionado]: A person who has good basic skill and mind will approach the top level if he has enough practice : )
FakeSteve: Ahh
FakeSteve: how did you get your position as coach anyway?
[Aficionado]: We made teamPOS 2002 with Mr. Ha [Aficionado]: and I got coach position august 2002 [Aficionado]: I had planned other job, but i couldn't escape Mr.Ha's trap
FakeSteve: Who is Mr. Ha? FakeSteve: haha
[Aficionado]: our Head Coach [Aficionado]: Ha Tae Gi
FakeSteve: He considered you best for the job?
[Aficionado]: yeah
FakeSteve: Well here's a chance to brag a little bit.. What makes you such a great coach?
[Aficionado]: cuz I graduated physical Education course he had thought bejjang will make the best team
FakeSteve: Ahh, Keep players healthy
FakeSteve: Whats your favorite part of your job?
[Aficionado]: analyzing other team players game
[Aficionado]: What makes you such a great coach --->answer : POS guys determined my job and purpose : ) [Aficionado]: determined my destiny [Aficionado]: how bad guys they are, aren't they?
FakeSteve: haha
FakeSteve: do you ever try any ninja spy stuff? Find out how the competition is playing? ;]
[Aficionado]: ninja spy stuff haha sounds interesting [Aficionado]: never but i really wanna their play if its possible haha
FakeSteve: haha, no doubt [Aficionado]: actually i watching their magical play in my dreams everyday : ) [Aficionado]: so i ninja !
FakeSteve: hahaha
FakeSteve: So what are your players up to right now? Practicing hard, i assume? ;]
[Aficionado]: exactly [Aficionado]: proleague practicing : )
FakeSteve: Under the iron fist of Aficionado
[Aficionado]: kakaka [Aficionado]: iron fist what a good nick for me ! thx : ) [Aficionado]: If they request some rest, I would say "hey, unlimited game you need ok?"
FakeSteve: hahaha
[Aficionado]: joke : )
FakeSteve: Speaking of that, do they have a schedule the follow? or do they just practice as much as they want?
[Aficionado]: of course they should follow the schedule [Aficionado]: but they need extra practice for other individual leagues so they always play a SC everyday [Aficionado]: Too many leagues in korea thesedays so they playing SC 10 hous a day usually
FakeSteve: Practice for the ProLeague and Team League are most important?
[Aficionado]: yes, its important for team, but i think individual league is important too
FakeSteve: Do you want them to try to participate in every league? or just a few? FakeSteve: individual leagues I mean
[Aficionado]: sure every league : ) [Aficionado]: they wanna be top class progamer like July you know : ) [Aficionado]: Wish for the best makes hard course ! [Aficionado]: If they wanna take part in a few league, they don't need to practice too much games like that
FakeSteve: of course FakeSteve: Does the rest of the team look up to July?
[Aficionado]: sure ^_^ [Aficionado]: he is the most respectable player which try to be progamers in korea : ) [Aficionado]: he made starleague top1 in a year : )
FakeSteve: Taking down iloveoov and Reach in the process, impressive to say the least FakeSteve: I bet you were so proud of him ;]
[Aficionado]: hm I had shouted "what the hell.. july won" kaka it was great experince [Aficionado]: sure ^^
FakeSteve: hahaha [Aficionado]:: I picked him 2002 [Aficionado]: he was 1300 rating of old gamei-server i remember [Aficionado]: but july had played 50 games everyday, and he passed all preliminaries of korea broadcasting league past 1 year [Aficionado]: awesome case : )
FakeSteve: ^_^ FakeSteve: So what do you do to keep the players healthy and fit? FakeSteve: I've heard the coach of the Hexatron team makes them climb a mountain or something ;]
[Aficionado]: kaka everything, food, trainning, image trainning, view, hair style and some stuff : ) [Aficionado]: kakaka daniel right?
FakeSteve: Daniel Lee
[Aficionado]: yeah but I think they had only a few : ) [Aficionado]: POS is like the Sparta of game team : )
FakeSteve: haha
[Aficionado]: Sounds body, sounds mind <--basic mind : )
FakeSteve: Do you prepare them to deal with crowds, fans, camera, the media, things like that? FakeSteve: teach them how to act on camera?
[Aficionado]: hm not much : )
FakeSteve: Just basic stuff? "Don't punch photographers, dont swear at the other player!"
[Aficionado]: just some advice for overcome fear-crowds, fans, camera : ) [Aficionado]: hm exactly : )
FakeSteve: Just tell them when they join, "I do all the punching on this team"
. . . [Aficionado]: oops [Aficionado]: wait a sec [Aficionado]: phone call
FakeSteve: sure, sure
[Aficionado]: back
FakeSteve: hihi FakeSteve: who was on the phone? ;]
[Aficionado]: girlfriend : )
FakeSteve: ohhhhh! ;] . . .
FakeSteve: So let's talk about you... what are you doing in the few hours you have to yourself today?
[Aficionado]: preparing proleague and i have to go our home today : )
FakeSteve: haha, work work work! FakeSteve: any hobbies?
[Aficionado]: SC, watching porno movies, sing a song, every sports i can play. etc [Aficionado]: watching porno movies <--joke
FakeSteve: ^___^ Manifesto: :O [Aficionado]: (oh no, you knew it) FakeSteve: ahaha
FakeSteve: you like playing SC eh?
[Aficionado]: hm not really : (
FakeSteve: remember when i beat you on Bifrost aahahaha FakeSteve: i'm so vain FakeSteve:
[Aficionado]: kaka : ) [Aficionado]: that was just friendly game : ) [Aficionado]: If I serious I can beat testie : ) FakeSteve: Oh I'd never win a serious game, don't worry about that FakeSteve: You won a season of WGT didn't you?
[Aficionado]: yeah ^^
FakeSteve: yeah see FakeSteve: I can't touch that skill level FakeSteve: All I can do i slap manifesto around
[Aficionado]: hahahah
Manifesto7: -.- Manifesto7: lies
FakeSteve: haha
FakeSteve: Are there any troublemakers on the team? or do they all stay manner out of fear for your mighty fist?
[Aficionado]: kaka none : ) [Aficionado]: Actually... all troublemaker : )
FakeSteve: haha
[Aficionado]: they should keep the silence if I really push my mighty fist : )
FakeSteve: hahaha FakeSteve: New POS team logo: Aficionado's Fist!
[Aficionado]: hahahha [Aficionado]: -,-v
FakeSteve: You've got a nice logo now with the new sponsor FakeSteve: awesome new uniforms too
[Aficionado]: thanks a lot ^_^v
Manifesto7: makes KTF look chobo
[Aficionado]: cuz we made our uniforms with SPRIS INC which make casuall brand and EGOSYS INC
FakeSteve: Is there any competitions between coaches? Any rivalries? ;]
[Aficionado]: hm not yet : ) [Aficionado]: but I hope it will be : )
FakeSteve: Anyone you want to have a rivalry with?
[Aficionado]: hm I don't want talking about rivalry : )
FakeSteve: haha no problem ;]
FakeSteve: You ever check out TeamLiquid.net? Nice little website we've got
[Aficionado]: sure : ) [Aficionado]: I always check TL site
FakeSteve: awesome FakeSteve:
Manifesto7: :O Manifesto7: im so glad!
[Aficionado]: Since TL opened, NazGul let me know that open news [Aficionado]: so I really love TL site : )
FakeSteve: Great to hear
[Aficionado]: TL is the best site ever : )
FakeSteve: hahaha
[Aficionado]: for SC community
FakeSteve: The best english StarCraft website anyway
[Aficionado]: yeah i think so
FakeSteve: Helps that we've had a huge boost in english-speaking Koreans who write out live reports for games
[Aficionado]: hm [Aficionado]:: live reports for games <--this already exist korean SC potal site like "www.fighterform.com" and other site planned open in a few days [Aficionado]: but Im not sure some korean make english live reports for TL [Aficionado]: I think.........Waxangel? [Aficionado]: I think he can write live reports of game everyday : )
FakeSteve: We have several these days.. [BoyGiRl]Sharp, DoubleStormIII, there are a bunch FakeSteve: And wax is far too lazy to write every day ;]
FakeSteve: So recently you've had your POS guys playing with Testie, with the possibility of joining the team. What happened there?
[Aficionado]: not much
FakeSteve: Didnt have the skill?
[Aficionado]: I don't know but he has good strategic mind, If he has good course of practicing he will be good player : )
FakeSteve: ^_^ FakeSteve: He tells me he's going to refine his game a lot, get back into the best frame of mind FakeSteve: Maybe you'll hear from him again ;]
[Aficionado]: kaka yeah i hope : )
FakeSteve: What do you think of any of the other foreign players? Is Testie the best, but still not quite good enough?
[Aficionado]: I think foreign players has not enough skills for suceed as a progamer in korea.. but I think foreign players strategic mind is good : )
Manifesto7: keyboard/mouse skills you mean?
[Aficionado]: accuracy to type hotkey, and speed to control all keyboard as fast as he can [Aficionado]: kind of REAL apm
FakeSteve: Like the ability to play to perfection physically in every game FakeSteve: no hotkey misses and such?
[Aficionado]: ^_^ yes
[Aficionado]: 1a2a3a4a5a6a7a8a9a0a <-- can you type this one in a 2 secs?
FakeSteve: 1a2q3a5a6a8 FakeSteve: er FakeSteve: nope FakeSteve:
[Aficionado]:: with mouse touch [Aficionado]: [he does it in like twice in 2 seconds]
FakeSteve: 1a2a4a6aw8= Manifesto7: !!
[Aficionado]: or [Aficionado]: rally point gathering [Aficionado]: 4,5,6,7,8,9,0 <--my gate ways [Aficionado]: set rally in a sec [Aficionado]: with mouse touch [Aficionado]: like this : ) [Aficionado]: [he does it in like.... a second]
FakeSteve: I can't do that... but I can do this: FakeSteve: O FakeSteve: o FakeSteve: O FakeSteve: o FakeSteve: O FakeSteve: o FakeSteve: O FakeSteve: o FakeSteve: O FakeSteve: can you?
[Aficionado]: ^^ [Aficionado]: oO [Aficionado]: you know this macro combo? 1a2a3a4r5r6r7r8r9r0r4sz5sz6sz7sz8sz9sz0sz [Aficionado]: you should this macro in a 2 sec [Aficionado]: [he does it in under 2 seconds.. again]
FakeSteve: I see what you mean about 'REAL apm'
[Aficionado]: ^^ . . .
Manifesto7: So how long will StarCraft be popular do you think?
[Aficionado]: over 10 years
FakeSteve: Excellent
Manifesto7: is that because of better sponsors?
[Aficionado]: It's growing like chess [Aficionado]: hm yes [Aficionado]: and starcraft's popularity is enough to release Manifesto7: who would you like to see be a sponsor?
[Aficionado]: I want that global INC and companies look up korean game market
FakeSteve: The large, international companies with lots of money for eager players! :D
Manifesto7: do you think that StarCrft can grow outside korea?
FakeSteve: Maybe after we can do 1a to 0a in a second ;]
[Aficionado]: hm just playing SC got limited grown rate, but I think SC Entertainment and broadcasting and league will makes other success outside korea
Manifesto7: it needs to have different language then Manifesto7: Do you think OGN/MBC will try and get english coverage? FakeSteve: The language barrier is huge.. It's why when I go to West at 2 am I can't find a game ;]
[Aficionado]: sure I will suggest it to OGN/MBC and the other Broadcasting corporations [Aficionado]: i know : )
FakeSteve: An English website would be wonderful, many non-koreans would LOVE to have OGN Live Stream accounts, but can't get one
[Aficionado]: But I wanna hearing our eager game with english commentary
Manifesto7: i want to as well ><
FakeSteve: What are your plans for the future?
[Aficionado]: hm ^^ everything that I can [Aficionado]: like global game league plan : ) hehe [Aficionado]: I wanna SC insert to mind Olympic someday
Manifesto7: hehe yes!
[Aficionado]: actually Korea mind Olypiad already has SC formally : )
FakeSteve: awesome FakeSteve: We dont have an Olympic for the mind in Canada -.-
[Aficionado]: And China Physical Education Department included SC in their formal list 99th [means a course in maintaining player health O_O]
FakeSteve:: excellent
[Aficionado]: real awesome fact : ) isn't it
Manifesto7: do you think china is the next market for StarCraft?
[Aficionado]: absolutely
Manifesto7: can we see OGN China leagues? Manifesto7: or just spectator?
[Aficionado]: hm just spectator right now but I think it will be better
FakeSteve: I would think it would be like the National Hockey League.. All the teams are in USA/Canada regardless of where they players are from FakeSteve: I'd think people would go to korea to be pro FakeSteve:: Broadcasts to North America and Europe would be fantastic though
[Aficionado]: kaka : ) [Aficionado]: I really hope so
FakeSteve: Well we're out of questions.. so... we're done i think Thank you very much for talking to us!
[Aficionado]: It will be honor : )
Manifesto7: it is our honor!
[Aficionado]: c ya ^^ . . .

Interesting to hear that the physical aspect is way more important to him than the strategic aspect, I would've never guessed actually.

wow i played someone named HaTaeGi on nGi, i beat him, he was good though... terran user :D

That's interesting that he thinks fast hands beat a strategic mind..I would have thought someone with a strategic mind can learn to be fast, but not the other way around ;o
you can test your 1a2a3a skills with http://hasuwar.isgsa.org/1a2a3a.exe
ps, no one cares about your score, no one wants to see your score, and if you use more than your keyboard hand, you're a queer anyway

yea i cant really imagine doing the 4sz5sz6sz7sz8sz9sz0sz very fast without using 2 hands.. it's not too difficult to do in 2 seconds if you use 2 hands for that part. of course, you must be clicking also for the a's and r's

It means not using two hands, having a hand on the mouse.

how is the korean keyboard layout? are their keyboards much smaller than our standars..? anyone know -_- they must have some advantage =O

I remember seeing this Aficionado guy in the possible hacker section in WGT way back when.
The game on question was on Lost Temple and Aficionado was Toss at 9 and his opponent was Toss at 3. The weird looking thing was when he (Aficionado) moves his goons right to the guys drop ship coming in from the lower middle east of Aficionados' base and kills it easily (no observers or vision either).
Anyways, it was more than likely coincidence, but the whole point I bring it up is because, when you took the time to read the remarks of both players, this Aficionado guy was cursing and saying F@$! and lots of other BM.
A simple and to the point, yet GOOD MANNER recant would have been more appropriate, especially for a person who is the Manager of a Pro gaming team.
Bottom line, who wants to read an interview about some snobby and snotty nosed adult who likes to act as if he is 12?

Idiotic comments. If the interview shows anything to you, it should be that he doesn't act as if he is 12. Bottom line, why are you dragging up shit from years ago WHEN YOU DONT EVEN KNOW IF IT IS THE SAME PERSON.
Even if it is, I have cursed my opponents many many times. I really think your comments are unwarrented and antagonistic.
|
Awesome interview. It's the first one in as long as I can remember where I laughed out loud more than once.

too many smileys makes it hard to read...and the questions could've been better =/

Yeah I like this macro combo idea, never tried to get faster at it b4. -_-;;
|
O??
Matrix[Sin] seems to lather himself in BM and condones any one who does so as well.
You say WHEN I DONT EVEN KNOW IF ITS THE SAME PERSON, however, you obviosuly did not read the WGT board at the time, nor Aficionados' comments, BECAUSE, he even stated that he was MANAGER OF POS, and that he wasn't a hacking f!$$% noob, and many other "POTTIE MOUTH WORDS".
The only idiot is one who would post on something they have no idea about, so clearly you need to invest in some MIRRORS =/.
The point of my post was not to bicker with you, it was to get the point out there that influencial people who hold some respect and power, especially since we are talking about this little BW community, should conduct themselves with class. But if you are the kinda guy who doesnt mind BM, then by all means, eat it up.
|
AFICIONADO CAN U TELL TO YOUR PLAYERS TO PLAY ONE WGTOUR SEASON JUST FOR FUN AND FOR FANS . IT WILL BE SUPERB
|
Ywn, no one cares about someone's actions 2yrs ago when posting comments on a game that he got called a hacker when he obviously wasnt. I'd be pissed, too. You're saying he should conduct himself with class, maybe people should treat him with respect and not accuse him of hacking b/c he moved his goons? :|
GREAT INTERVIEW, gj guys, his lack of english skillz is funny and i find it cute ^^ Very good questions, and a great insight into the coaching aspect of the game. 50 games, WTF I also thought it was interesting about how he's saying perfect control trumps a strategic mind. I guess people like ra are the exception, but what he's saying, someone like july, never has a bad game, always consistent. When with ra, u see plenty of bad games, but i think lately ra has really improved on his keyboard play.

great interview. however, when interviewing a person that doesn't speak english all that well, i think the interviewers should use slightly more formal language to avoid the confusion that was clearly shown at times in the interview.
