OnGameNet NHN Hangame Starleague
December 2003 - March 2004

First, let Snorlax's First Disciple talk:
<<
Hangame is a website that allows you to play all sorts of games online. While they have various free games, they also have several pay services as well. Since OGN is a channel for gamers, Hangame really makes sense as a sponsor.

New maps are always the biggest issue when a new league starts. Nostalgia has been kept in it's original form, the statistics showed it had fairly good race balance. Guillotine has been modified into Neo Guillotine, probably because of the TvP difficulties. Paradoxxx stays, but underwent some heavy changes to emerge as Paradoxxx II. Hopefully OGN spent some more time balancing it this time. The last map is a new one, "Namja Iyagi" which means "The story of a man" in Korean.

Before an OGN Starleague, you can't leave out the all important group drawing ceremony. Being a filthy rich company, OGN decided to hold the group drawings on a grand scale. Rather than holding it at the cramped Megawebstation, they rented out a grand performance hall. It resembled the Starleague finals in some ways, with quite a few people there to watch the players select their groups live.

So, on to the group drawings!
>>

Players:
- Seeded from MyCube Starleague: 1.Kingdom(P) 2.Nal_Ra(P) 3.Junwi(Z)
- Winner of the Challenge League: Gorush(Z)
- Qualified through the Dual Tournement:

(Z) Chojja, JJu, Mumyung
(P) Zeus, Reach, IntoTheRainbow
(R) Elky
Total: 5T,5Z,5P,1R

They used the standard OGN method where the players pick their own groups.

ok so the point of that was ths (maybe.. besides the fact that its so few games its really hard to tell who is reallyb etter when you consider the maps and opponents)

paradoxxx2 zvz
win: jju
split: junwi
lose: gorush

nostalgia zvz
win: jju, gorush
split: junwi
lose: chojja

guillotine zvz
win: gorush
lose: junwi

paradoxxx2 zvt
win: jju, gorush
split: junwi
lose: mumyung

nostalgia zvt
win: jju
lose: gorush, mumyung

namja iyagi zvt
lose: jju, junwi

guillotine zvt
win: chojja
lose: jju

paradoxxx2 zvp
lose: jju, chojja

nostalgia zvp
win: jju, mumyung

namja iyagi zvp
lose: jju

guillotine zvp
win: gorush
split: mumyung
lose: jju

ok so looking at it in this way, can you really tell which maps are fair or not? mumyung does better on guillotine, but jju loses on guillotine, so it seems like map preference? not enough games were played on namja for zerg. junwi only split zvt paradoxxx2 because of nada, so maybe z>t on paradoxxx2? in nostalgia only jju beat terrans. none beat terran on namja. in guillotine, jju lose to terran, but chojja won. toss beat zeerg paradoxxx2 as everyone already thinks, but zerg beat protoss on nostalgia? jju lose on namja to toss, no other zerg won ths eithr? guillotine seems most split followed by nostalgia, then paradoxxx2, then namja, at least for matchups involving zerg hm :|
