I'm looking at a few internships in the business field for this summer and have to make some decisions coming up soon. My school has the top ranked program for this branch of business (supply chain mgmt - logistics and such) in the country so we often get a lot of interest from companies and they're usually favorable towards hiring people from here. After our job fair i interviewed with a few companies. We'll call these companies A, B, and C. A&B are both on the east coast and i'm from the midwest so i'd like to stay in the area.
-A immediately made me an offer and gave me a week to reply, i asked for an extension and i'm supposed to get back to them tomorrow. This is the company i'd least like to work for because it doesnt interest me as much and it'd be 6 months instead of just for the summer.
-B has expressed interest in me and called today to let me know that i'm one of the top candidates they're looking at but won't be making decisions till next friday. I would prefer this company over A.
-C hasn't gotten back to me since some initial contact after interviewing. I'd like to work for this company over A or B due to location (chi city what up)
Best case scenario is i contact company A tomorrow, get an extension to next friday, and figure it out then. Hopefully company C would get back to me before I had to respond to company A and/or B.
But if I can't get an extension from company A, I'm not sure if i should accept/decline. It'd be six months long so i'd have to delay graduation till next May instead of this December and i'd really like to be back at school in the fall. Company B sounds interested and has been in contact with me fairly often so it sounds promising but if i turn down A and don't get B or C i'm obviously fucked. I have heard that company A often makes quick offers and people have missed out on more favorable jobs because they had to commit too quickly. I'm hoping I can pull another extension as it sounds they are very interested in me as they made an offer within hours of interviewing and accommodated one extension already. There's also company D who hasnt contacted me yet and I dont really want to work for but they're in the midwest lol (wildcard??).
Anyone have any advice that has been in this situation or has any related experience?

Tell A you won't be pressured by them and if they can't grant you an extension you cannot accept their offer. Wait to hear back from B and C.

If it comes down to a situation where you have a suboptimal but non extendable offer now, and much better potential offers later, you can always accept the suboptimal offer and then cancel later if you get one of the better jobs. Whether it's worth the risk of pissing off company A just depends on how much better those potential offers are, and the probability that you'll get one of the better offers (if the prob. is low but they are MUCH better, you should do this, but if the prob. is high just reject A). Also, company A will be less pissed off than you think if you end up doing this, especially since it's just for an internship.
Summary: you need to make a decision as to whether to accept A, and this depends on two factors: the probability that you'll get an offer from a better company, and how much you care about pissing off A if you cancel on them after accepting. You can make the decision of whether to accept a later offer when the time comes (this will depend on how MUCH better such an offer is than A).

I'm in CS and not business, but in my experience, you do not have to worry about a company pulling an offer from you so quickly, regardless of what they say. If you are a good candidate, (and I assume you are) just tell them you can't decide until next Friday and they will deal.

Our school had a policy where employers had to give you at least a month to accept in order for the company to keep using our recruiting services, but not a lot of students knew so employers would often pressure the students into accepting early. Like others have said, push it back, they will accommodate. I had a company whose offer I pushed back for 2 months, rejected, then called them up 2 weeks before the internship and they said they still had a spot lol

You'd seriously take Chicago over east coast (I'm assuming NYC or Boston...DC and Philly are ok, I guess, but I think I'd take Chicago over both of those cities)? ._.
In any case, I'd talk to company A and request another extension. If they won't accommodate, then just decline the offer. Every company I interviewed with was more than willing to grant extensions despite what their "official" line was. Also, there's no point in working at a place where you won't enjoy the work. Do all three companies have similar name value on your resume?
Finally, are you delaying graduation? :<

although asking for an extension is fine, i wouldnt give them an ultimatum. they likely have other candidates waiting in line for your spot who will jump on the chance, and i always react negatively to an ultimatum (even if it screws myself). i would ask for an extension until next friday (say that you are waiting on another offer) and see what they say. then go from there.

I'd pick the one with the best resume booster. I dunno about business, but for engineering, a majority of co-ops are better than internships. You get more responsibilities because of the length of your stay with the company, and you generally deal with heavier stuff as a direct result of that.
I believe schools give you credit for co-ops, so see if you can get some from your school if you go with Company A.
